Love Out of Order
Denise Rich was a perfect student. School was the only thing she always got right. And then John Archer came along and ruined even that for her. He took away her ability to hold everything in perfect order. He stole her ability not to care about the fact that nothing outside of school worked for her. Up until him, she was perfectly happy to live vicariously through her two best friends, Suse and Astoria. But Denise thought what John gave her in trade was worth more; a chance at real love. And it was until he took it away. Denise is now at the end of her ability to love and believe. Her journey to get that ability back is a rocky one that involves a trip to Vegas and almost ends in disaster.

I am going to try to do this with a semblance of respect since its definitely not as though this author just can't write or the editing is too terrible. No- the problems here are specific and numerous.
Unlikeable heroine.
This is the most childish 24/25 year old female I have ever read about. She routinely has tantrums and throws around entirely misplaced anger. I almost felt the story would have read better had these two actually been teens and not 2nd and 3 rd year grad students.
An unforgivable act by the male lead. I dont want to spoil detsils, but let's just say there is a party and a really shitty lack of support this guy displayed. In the next scene there is an attempt to explain it away but I'm telling you, it made no sense.
The Friend.
Lots of books have one. The bitch thats in the heroine's ear spewing venom. These two "friends" have the SAME ARGUMENT no less that ten times in this story. "He is white so he is just using you." Which leads me to...
What the hell YEAR is this supposed to be??? The rich, white parents not liking it is one thing. Afterall, trust funds and family corporations are a better backdrop for assery of this kind. But literally the ENTIRE COLLEGE turns on these two with a single minded aggression that wasn't even in a book like Being Plumville where society just wasnt ready!! This is supposed to be present day!!!
Lastly, the guy ends up groveling in the end and TRUST me, this broad was at least 75% responsible for any problems they had. Utterly ridiculous.
A 1.5 but rounded up to a 2 because its better than the books I usually give one star ratings to. But not by much.

February 7, 2010this was a very good book. the thing that initially attracted me to the book out of all of the hundreds of romance books on the shelf was the cover. for me and countless others that says it all. I think we are in need of more books written along these lines. though the world may not be in 100% acceptance of it, it is a reality for a lot of us. I think having reads such as "love out of order" are a big help before, during and after these relationships and interactions, especially if there aren't others we can bounce this sort of thing off of that have experienced it. I was so happy that Denise and John worked it out despite all of the pain it took to get them there, but because of the struggle and their decision to make it work regardless of all else, they will. "love out of order" is a must read. I can't wait for the next book, especially if it is of the same genre. this niche needs to be filled.

Since I know the author, I kept picturing her as Denise (sorry Nicole!). I had mixed emotions about Denise. I liked her then hated her. I loved the complexity of her and John's relationship and how I would assume it reflects reality with maybe more drama. I loved John. I loved that he wasn't too smart but not too dumb. Typical college frat boy that likes to party and doesnt' excel in school and you could tell when he tries to explain his feelings to Denise.
Astoria. Well you have to hate her and for that reason she needed to be in the book. I think you needed Denise to have a loud mouth close minded friend that was constantly in her ear.
But in the end it all came together and in more ways than one. My only question on writing is why did you wait until the end for more of a detailed love scene? I know they had previously but no details. I would think the first time would have more detail.
All in all, I enjoyed it and enjoy Ms. Green's writin style and look forward to more of her work.

It's just an OKAY read...the characters main and secondary are quite COLORFUL...and even though the storyline is REALISTIC...and the author gives some INTERESTING and probably EXTREMELY real insight into the world of interracial dating/relationships...both John and Denise come off as TOO NEEDY, wishy-washy and whiny throughout...and I couldn't for the life of me see how they could build a LASTING relationship with all the DRAMA constantly surrounding them...the few moments when John and Denise are in "sync" with one another the romance is definitely SWEET...but there's just too much NEGATIVITY from the couple, his parents, their friends, and of course all their "enemies"...however, that being said, Ms. Green still keeps me turning the pages just to discover what would become of John and Denise's journey to love.

Denise really has no morals.. i know everyone is saying that Astoria is nosy but she sometime makes more sense than Denise. I could not find it in myself to like her so reading this book was really really hard... she is just so disgusting... a very shameless person...and she had john had zero chemistry. Denise should be shoot... another TSTL heroine arrrg... and John also should be shoot ... goodness how spineless can a man be... i hated this book ... i hate this book

I loved this Young Adult read. It's about two college kids who fall in love with each other despite the fact that their friends and the boy's ( Archie) parents do not approve and will go to great lengths to ensure that they break up. There is also the little fact that Archie has a crazy vengeful girlfriend who Archie's parents approve of hell bent on marrying Archie.

Meh. After trying to slosh through a whole stack, I am getting bored of IR romance. It's all the same, and rarely good. Also, that cover is embarrassing.

4 stars: John and Denise's story addresses the more rabid behavior of some in our society toward mixed race couples. The story had lots of twists that make for interesting reading. Denise and John share a mutual attraction for each other and become study partners and this friendship blossoms unto love; but before the HEA, they are meet with racism from their friends, family, an ex-girlfriend and even John who for a while denies Denise and goes with the wishes of his family.

It was really good to read. i enjoyed it alot. I enjoyed the characters even though denise was a bit annoying sometimes lol. i really loved the book....lost count of how many times i read it. and i love IR books and support them to the fullest <3

Loved the book. Felt it was a good plot driven story. Loved the main characters =) It was predictable, but not so much that it takes away from the book as a whole.
