This revised and updated edition, featuring all-new illustrations and 40 new games, is packed with opportunities to build confidence and to enhance language, coordination, social interactions, and problem-solving skills. Games to Play with Two Year Olds is a must-have for anyone caring for a child between the ages of two and three. Turn ordinary, everyday routines into fun learning experiences!
I've had this book a long time. And initially I felt some of the same discontent that others mentioned. But a lot of that has to do with how the book is billed. No, you're not going to build much in the way of problem solving skills or communication etc. by playing these games. And its rather annoying that she says you're building this or that development with this or that game, throughout the book.
But what you will find is an endless number of little 2 minute games to fill a few minutes of waiting time. The games are not elaborate or especially clever. They are simple little games that anyone can make up; and every mother plays a few of them. I could always use a couple more ideas to add into my repertoire. And that's the beauty of this book.
I found the "young 2's", "middle 2's", "older 2's" designations to be not very useful for my daughter, but the general layout of the book was very conducive to quickly looking up fun, simple-to-set-up activities for toddlers. I especially liked the large number of rhymes and songs. There was a little more of the "when your child does this, praise her profusely" stuff than I'd have liked, but then, I'm a little funny about rewards and punishments. Even for me, though, this didn't detract much.
I liked some of the games to play with this book, but the ones with all of the rhymes just seemed tedious. And many of them seem like stuff that Will and I already do, like the car games. I was hoping I'd find something different and interesting, but I really didn't see anything.
A lot of theses activities were either just okay (some were kind of silly) or things I had already heard of, but I did get a few ideas that opened up my mind to how I can better interact with and plan for more exciting and purposeful planning of games and playing with my children.
This book is loaded with great ideas that allow my brain to think outside the box. It helped me to realign my thoughts with the youngest age children in my nature program. Many games are easily adapted for nature themes.
