This book was cute, and it has a motivational message. It's probably more enjoyable for an actual child, but I liked it.

Personal Response:
I really enjoyed “Quickie Makes the Team” because it taught me a lesson and it taught me to chase greatness and strive to be the best. I also enjoyed it because it’s about sports and football, and those are things I am involved in and have a passion for. I think that having that mentality and having the mindset where I strive for greatness is the key to success. I also enjoyed it because it was a short story and it told a life lesson.

Plot:
This short story written by Donald Driver, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver, having a dream and going out and achieving my dreams. The book also stresses that I shouldn’t stop at anything to achieve it. He explains how when he was a kid, he was the smallest on the team. He strived to be the best, and he believed he could be the best. No matter what happens in my future, I am the only one that can control my destiny and outcome. I need to strive to be the best I can be, and I will always be much happier knowing I gave it my all.

Characterization:
Donald Driver is the author of this book, and he is a very motivational person. He wants the reader to have all the motivation, and confidence they can get. Donald is a very good person, he always is looking for positivity and encouragement.

Setting:
The setting is during Donald Driver’s childhood through the mid and late 80's. The effect of the setting was that he didn’t have much else to do where he lived, other than playing football. He decided he wanted to be great so he chased his dreams and smashed his goals.

Audience:
I would recommend this book to fans of Donald Driver and kids 8 and up that are into football, or trying out for a sport. This is a good book that motivates kids to go out and try new things, but also have confidence and positivity.

Sorry, Donald Driver, but I didn't think this book was well-written. The plot was pretty obvious. People tell him he's too small to play football but then he makes the team and scores the winning touchdown in a matter of a few pages. And the illustrations were just weird.

I'm hoping I like your autobiography better!

"You don't have to be a big guy to play," Mr. Peters replied. "Remember it is what's inside that counts."

No. When you're doing something physical, your physicality (including your size) matters.

If you are in search of an encouraging, feel-good book for the younger ones, Quickie Makes the Team is it! This is a story written by the Green Bay Packers’ well-known wide receiver, Donald Driver. In the book, Driver writes about himself as a child. He tells about his struggle in his younger years as he desperately longed to try out for the school football team, but was told time and time again that he was just too small to play. Donald Driver, also known as “Quickie” at this age, believed those who said he could not play, until one day his neighbor told him something different. By the end of the story Quickie ends up making the winning touchdown for his school’s football team, and although he had to put in a large amount of effort into making the team, he did what he had been dreaming of all because one person believed in him.

Throughout the book, illustrations fill each of the pages. The illustrator uses watercolors to brighten the scene on each page and in addition, also uses rounding techniques to curve the bodies and facial features of the characters. The curved edges of the characters give them a softer, more natural look. The illustrator also does a great job of highlighting Quickie’s small size. When showing Quickie interacting with others, the illustrator, Joe Groshek, is sure to accentuate the larger size of those around him. For example, when Quickie and his friend Bill go to try out for the team, they can be seen walking together down the hallway. Bill is noticeably taller than Quickie, and as the reader, we can assume that Bill and Quickie are around the same age, which makes Quickie’s size quite shocking.

Although Quickie feels the frustration of being too small to play football, and deals with this constant battle throughout the story, the author keeps an overall enthusiastic tone from start to finish. In turn, this gives the audience a cheerful mood despite Quickie’s hardships they are reading about and can often relate to. With that being said, this book is a great example to kids about how to keep a positive attitude even when things may not be going your way. In addition to the overall message of “you can be anything you want to be”, this story sets an excellent example for the younger readers who may be dealing with a similar situation in their lives.

I'm a little bit prejudice.

Donald Driver is my favorite Green Bay Packer, and I love the Green and Gold!

This is a delightful book about never giving up. Donald's personal story is one of tenacity and I am sure this book is from personal experience. He and his wife are generous supporters of their community, willing to put their hearts into the things that they love.

I loved this book, knowing the story behind Donald Driver.

This is a 'be anything you can be' sort of story of a boy people thought was too small to play football. Packer fans will enjoy that this book is by Donald Driver.

My family is a huge Driver fan. So we had to get the book.
He takes his life growing up and simplifies it to a picture book. I enjoyed reading to my kids many times over.
