Little Echo

Little Echo lives alone in a cave until, one day, a chance encounter encourages her to be brave and make a new friend. A gentle story about finding your own voice.

Have you ever heard an Echo?
They live in lakes and tunnels and caves.
But have you ever seen an Echo?

Little Echo lives alone in a cave. Shy, she hides away, echoing the noises around her. But Little Echo isn't just shy — she's lonely. And when Max comes to the cave one day, in search of treasure, Little Echo starts to discover that maybe she has a voice of her own . . .

What a cute book that sets about to explain to small children what is an echo and how it works. Now obviously there is no such thing as a Little Echo, but to small children it is a super cute way to introduce them to echoes and when they get older they will learn what really causes those repeated sounds, but for now this is charming.
Little Echo lives in a cave and is very shy and can repeat only what she hears. Then a young boy named Max enters the cave with a map to find buried treasure. She finds him interesting and follows him and has a fun time helping him and even finds her own voice for the first time. In the end a friendship develops and that is more important to both of them than finding buried treasure. A very fun story with good illustrations that will capture a child's imagination and allow mom or day or grandparent to have a great time reading this book and imitating echoes. Wish it could be a few pages longer, but no matter the length it is very good book to read to children or for first readers. Top notch effort by author Al Rodin!

4.5 stars A fun story with some really beautiful illustrations! A little boy goes on a treasure hunt, entering some caves he is followed by an echo - a cute furry animal with big ears. When he gets into danger the little echo plucks up the courage to do something other than repeat the last things people say!

The illustrations are in a unique and interesting to look at. I love the underground cross section that shows you the caves and tunnels, you see bats hanging upside down reading, bees enjoying a glass of something, and in my favourite cave, some fox-like creatures are sprawled on the floor doing some drawing!

Although the storyline is one I've come across before, finding friendship, speaking out, being brave and enjoying imaginative play, it was beautifully told and had such lovely illustrations it's definitely one I'd buy if I had a small person to read to. This would make a very nice bedtime story and certainly one I would highly recommend to those who enjoy artistic illustrations!

Little Echo lives in a cave. She sees other animals living around her, but she can't speak to them because she is very shy. Instead, she echoes them back at them. One day, Max comes looking for treasure, and Echo decides to help. When danger arises, Echo finds her confidence and her voice, saving Max. Together, they then have adventures together.

Interesting way to show little kids how echoes work. And a good way to talk about gaining confidence and making friends. The illustrations were interesting (the cross section of the caves was my favourite!)

Thank you to Netgalley and to Penguin Random House Canada for this ARC in exchange for my review.

What a fun idea to create a Little Echo creature! Of course, Little Echo is very shy – how else could it be – and that can result in loneliness. And the lesson is great too: you must be brave to make friends, and it is not easy to overcome fears, but it is so worth it! Sometimes something you want is bigger than your fear, and that is a good way to start the adventure of reaching out. So, I was happy when Max came along and gave Little Echo the right enticement to come out of her "cave." But it also shows that you need someone special to make the transition easier. Luckily, Max is just the person for Little Echo.

I enjoyed the short story about Little Echo and her bravery. But I know that I could not read this book with my little one because of the illustrations. Don’t get me wrong, I find the portrayal of Little Echo very accurate. The super big ears are adorable! But the surroundings and dangers of the cave with the dark colours are frightening. And as a parent of a very sensitive and imaginative child, I just know that we would not make it through the book without a tear.

So, if you have a brave little child who is not afraid of simple villains – mainly a wild bear – and is not too scared of the dark, then enjoy this fun little read about bravery and making new friends. But if you have a child like me who fears shadows and hates everything “mean”, maybe wait until they are older. You know your child best!

Review: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ ⭐️

I rarely read children's novels but the illustration and the title caught my eye that I just had to request for it! So glad I got a chance to read it.

Let's talk about how vivid and wonderful the illustrations are. They are so cute and colorful that they will catch one's eye. It also introduces children to what an echo is and how it works. in a wonderfully imaginative way.

Little Echo (represented in a illustration as a mouse) is a tiny and timid creature that lives in a large cave. It is too afraid to show itself and would only echo behind any sounds made by other creatures living in the cave. One day, a little boy name Max came into the cave in seeking treasure. Little Echo could not help but follow him and when he got into danger, Little Echo finally develops some courage to say its own words and thus, save Max. They became good friends as such!

It is such a delightful read and would make a good bedtime story. It teaches one to find that own courage to be themselves especially with the right friends. I love how Echo is represented as a mouse who finds its courage to voice its big thoughts.

Highly, highly recommend!

For fans of WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE comes another book with a bit of a child-level thrill to it. This is a picture book that personifies an echo in a cave, and eventually shows the echo with a friendly, slightly-rabbit type shape. The illustrations have enough splashes of bright color to catch a child's eye while maintaining a dark aura, fitting for a cave. The basic premise is that Little Echo needs to find her own voice and not just always repeat that of others. In the end, Echo makes a lasting friendship with a little boy named Max and helps to save his life. This is a book that children will most likely request to have read to them over and over. It was a 4.5/5 for me - rounded up to a 5. I added the tag of mental health issues since this book could help adults talk to young children about overcoming shyness, making friends in a new situation, or even being different from others (an echo rather than a material figure.) I read this on NetGalley and appreciate the enjoyable reading adventure.

A genuinely charming story of a little boy playing in a cave, and the small echo who wanted to play too--instead of just echoing.

The author/illustrator, Al Rodin, is not the best at drawing (in my opinion), but his creativity and use of texture is delightful!

I like the way Max and Little Echo accept each other and work together--as any good adventure team would. The maze of tunnels is especially fun to follow and identify critters and what some are doing.

We can all identify with Little Echo tiring of her assigned role, and looking for someone to help her develop her "fun" muscles. I recommend this picture book as a bedtime story, and as a gift for anyone young or old who reminds the reader of either or both characters! Magical!

5/5 Stars

I was given an early copy in exchange for an honest review.. This book was so cute. Max and the little echo take off in the cave on a treasure hunt.By the way, have you ever seen an echo to know what one looks like. The little echo is too shy to use her own voice. Max and echo are having trouble finding the treasure echo is worried they won’t find their way and discovers Max has the map upside down. echo finds her small voice to tell him to try a different spot that she saw that was softer. They found the treasure.and began to really talk and stop to listen to each other.and discovered it was nice to learn so much about each other. What a positive book for children to read. Yes, I would highly recommend this charming book. The book is very well illustrated to help tell the story.. Thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to do an early review.

Little Echo is shy, and hides in the shadows, and only repeats what others around them say. Until Max comes along, also alone, looking for treasure! And Little Echo wants to help him, but is too shy and scared, until they pluck up enough courage to use their own voice and say their own words! While they don't find any traditional buried treasure, Max and Little Echo learn that the real treasure is having a friend to talk to and share an adventure with <3

A charming little story that will teach young readers about how to be brave and speak up, and how to help others around us, and perhaps most importantly that sometimes people around us are shy and scared but that doesn't mean they don't want to be friends!

Little Echo wants to talk, wants to go on adventures, and wants to be included, but she's too shy to do anything but echo. Finding her own words will be hard, but it could be worth being brave for.

This is a nice story about coming into yourself and being resilient. The friendship that develops between Little Echo and Max is very sweet and a great example for kids. This is also full of wonderfully expressive language to help build vocabularies and storytelling skills. The art is lively and detailed and complements the story nicely. This would be a good circle time read for pre-K and early elementary.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

Little Echo lives in a cave. She constantly echoes what she hears, but she can't seem to find her own voice. Lonely and shy, she comes across Max, a boy searching for lost treasure. Together, they go a journey of bravery and friendship.

This lovely illustrated children's book is the perfect quick read. It is listed as appropriate for 3 - 7 years old. Echo is so cute that I wanted to pick her up and cuddle her! I could definitely see children loving her, too, and admiring the bravery she finds. It is an inspirational story about finding your voice and loving your friends. I would recommend this to all with young children to share it with.

Once again I was drawn to a book because of its cover and I have no regrets! I loved the colors and the illustrations of this book, so I knew I had to request it when I saw it on #Netgalley.

I didn't go in expecting very much, but I came out loving the book for the way echoes were personified. I absolutely love when nonliving things are made real and given personalities. I can only imagine how fun this book would be to read from a child's perspective. Highly recommended as a fun bedtime story or as a way to introduce children to personification.

Thanks to Netgalley for the e-Arc!

This is a cute story about building friendship - it tells about little Echo who is too shy to use her own voice, so she just echoes other animals and visitors to herh home (a cave). One day, to save a little boy named Max, she has to use a word of her own!
As they explore the cave together (looking for treasure of course) Echo learns to listen and speak to build a friendship for the first time!
The illustrations are perfect for a cave adventure - and beautiful layered in light builds in to compliment Echo's journey!

Echo lives in a cave, quiet and unseen. One day, Max arrives to look for a treasure in the cave. Echo wants to help Max but keeps getting it wrong because Echo is not used to being heard. Eventually a bear comes along and Echo wakes Max up to rescue her. Because of this Max offers half of her treasure to Max. Echo does not want Max to leave so she uses her own words and Max invites her along and they become friends.
I enjoyed this book! It was a very easy read. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. #NetGalley, #LittleEcho

Highly detailed illustrations support this story by Rodin. Little Echo is quiet and shy. They want to join the others in the cave but fear holds them back. When a boy named Max comes treasure hunting, Little Echol finds her courage and saves Max. Together, they discover that the real treasure is friendship.
Charming story and a fun family read.

Beautiful illustrations surround a neat story about Echo, a very shy creature living in a cave. She's afraid to speak out until she encounters Max, a boy looking for treasure. When Little Echo realizes that Max is in danger, she finds her courage, and even better, a true friend. I read this to my two year old granddaughter and she loved it.
