Laura has traveled here, to this time before the moon has come to circle the earth, to embrace Kentir beneath the violet-and-ochre brilliance of the Northern Lights. In his gray-blue gaze, she sees the longing he cannot hide. His lips seek hers and find them. In his kiss she tastes the warmth of amber wine and the urgency of manly desire. She drinks deeply, forgetting that for them there can be no past, no future; for he is of a time that is ending, while she belongs to one that has yet to begin. Closing her eyes to the soft shadows of the lantern lights, she gives herself to him, determined to live out her destiny in this one precious night.
Once again I have been duped by a book cover. I started reading this assuming I was getting a romance novel about two people in Alaska, and ended up reading an intergalactic adventure to save the space time continuum? Definitely something that was not seen on the cover or the synopsis on the back. It starts with Laura, a young woman who breaks off her engagement to her fiancé, Roger, an upcoming candidate for senator. When she learns he is cheating along with the fact that she doesn’t really love him, she decides to break it off. Standing on the shore of the beach she hands back his ring. She then takes a moment to wade in the water and reflect, until she spies what she thinks is sea glass. This is where things get weird. She picks it up and examines the odd egg shaped glass to the light next thing you know she’s transported to a hot desert environment with dark skies and no surroundings. She tries to remain calm until a ufo lands in front of her she’s taken aboard and is panicked at what her fate might be especially since she is convinced that she’s been abducted by aliens. Shes brought into a room with her captor and when he removed his space suit she can seen that he is no alien but a man. He then places a chip behind where ear and she is able to understand his language. The man introduces himself as Kentir, the leader aboard the ship. Still desperate to know what happened he explains that she will soon know her purpose eventually. But despite thinking she’s on some foreign planet Kentir explains that she is still on earth, only more than 500 million years into the past. More confused than ever she finds that she was not the only one brought here, but three other people from different times also found the time stones; Laura from 1998, a 12 century Chinese mage, an ancient Aztec high priest and an 22nd century female lieutenant. The next day they are brought to Issa, a once prosperous and technologically advanced civilization of the Khesserians that has been abandoned. Kentir along with his crew explain to Laura and the rest that there is an asteroid coming to earth that will wipe out the planet and possibly any further civilizations to come. They evacuated their cities and sent their families into space in hopes of survival. They plan to destroy this asteroid but are in need of help so they sent four time stones into various time periods of the future to try and find people that would be able to help them. With this very random team of people they hope to save the planet so time may continue. Laura inferences from the advanced technology and society that Issa is actually what people from the 20th century believe to be the lost city of Atlantis. They are eager to help use their very different skills sets and knowledge to help the Khesserians. Laura and Kentir quickly find that they have feelings for each other. And with the possible end of time as they know it quickly approaching, they plan to make the most of it. In the end they know even if the asteroid is destroyed earth will most likely not be inhabitable for them. So they make time stones to send them into different eras. Kentir and Laura agree to go together back to Laura’s time along with Renan the medic. They do deter the asteroid enough that it falls into earths gravitational pull and becomes the moon. But they leave before they see they earth go into the ice age and eventually fall into the evolution we know today. Kentir and Renan fall fairly easily into the 20th century lifestyle and begin work with Laura’s father, a former NASA scientist. So all’s well it ends well.
In my summary I left out a lot of the drama that happened in the story along with the betrayal and death that did occur. This truly through me for a loop so much so that I started hysterically laughing when I realized this wasn’t a normal romance book. But that being said it was extremely entertaining and very far fetched. I don’t like time travel but this was very fun. I’m just happy Kentir and Laura had a happy ending. Also the Khesserian phrase “until tomorrow” is so dramatic and my new favorite thing I don’t know why but it made every goodbye they said at the end so emotional and sad. I give it five asteroids out of five.

This is a captivating story of Laura and Kentir. Laura is a girl who can't seem to find her place in the time she lives in. Yes I said in the time for this is a time travel book. While on the beach she finds a pretty piece of glass that just happens to teleport her to a different time.
Kentir oh man where can I find one? He's brought Laura and some others to his time cause he needs their help.
Between saving Kentir's people, dealing with loss and betrayal, and the stress of their assigned jobs. It's a miracle these to find the time to fall beautifully in love. I definitely recommend you give this book a try even if you aren't a fan of time travel books (like me) this book might just surprise you.
One of the very few books that has engrossed me from start to finish. A superb romance story for anyone who believes love can happen in any time, in any place, and anywhere, no matter how complicated the situation is. I would love to read more books from Flora Speer, that are similar to this one.
