National bestselling author De’nesha Diamond burst onto the scene as the co-author of the gritty Desperate Hoodwives tales. The Essence magazine recommended series has taken the street-lit game by storm and paved a brand new path for the edgy Memphis native. Understanding that there is a fine line between glorifying thug life and telling it like it is, De’nesha Diamond spins cautionary tales inspired by personal experience and the heartbreaking stories that make our nightly news. In the end, she aims to deliver hope, even if sometimes there are no rides in the golden sunset.

The first 2 stories were the best, with Erick S. Gray's outshining the other. De'nesha Diamond, Erick S. Gray, and Nichelle Walker come together to give readers 3 short stories about 3 of the most unforgettable women I could possibly imagine. I appreciate Diamond's contribution to the Heartbreaker collection because I believe she really stuck to the short story format. Gray's "Put 'Em in Their Place" seemed more like an excerpt and Walker's "Kandy Girlz" seemed like a summary as opposed to a short story. Each author does a fairly good job at keeping readers entertained and on the edge of their seats. If you're looking for a glimpse into urban fiction, I'd recommend Heartbreaker, but if you're looking for a well written full-length street lit novel, then maybe this isn't for you.

Loved it. Great, action-packed stories. As a warning, the characters use tons, and I mean tons, of profanity. They're sexy filled, urban short stories with some clever twists and turns that make for enjoyable reading.

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue…

Heartbreaker: one that causes sorrow, grief or disappointment; a charming person who is irresponsible in emotional relationships. Such is the premise for this anthology featuring De’nesha Diamond, Erick S. Gray and Nichelle Walker.

Slippin’ by De’nesha Diamond – Delvon Jackson is a young hustler that finds himself smitten by a woman he met at a club. Determined to have her at all cost, he gets a lawn job at her house only to quickly get in a predicament he may not be able to hustle out of.

Put ‘Em in Their Place by Erick Gray – Revenge is the name of the game for Cha, a sexy stripper irresistible to all men. Using her womanly wiles, she gets next to her intended vic. But does her quest for revenge blind her to other dangers?

Kandy Girlz by Nichelle Walker – Kandy uses what she’s got to get what she wants. In doing so, a few have crossed her. Kandy doesn’t cry, she gets even.

I mistakenly expected more from “Heartbreaker” based on the glowing reviews. Erick Gray’s story easily outshines the others with a creative twist. However, up to that point it was the same ‘get money chick’ tale that has been told over and over again. Girl strips. Girl is promiscuous. Girl wears designer clothes. Girl thinks she is all that. Typical but a decent effort. Having now read a few of his books, I would love to see him use his talent and think outside of the box to create a novelty.

De’nesha Diamond’s story could be good if readers are willing to accept everything as is and question nothing. I am not that reader. In addition, I felt the author was reaching, trying too hard to come from the male point of view. In the end, it’s a female author trying to write from the perspective of a man and you can feel that.

Nichelle Walker’s story I have read before. Two times to be exact – “Doing His Time” and “Money Over Men.” It’s always a bad chick, good p*ssy, revenge and convenient circumstances. I actually most looked forward to this story to see if the author would bring something new and fresh. Unfortunately, she did not.

The publisher had a good idea, and I won’t disregard the thought processes that went into this book. That said, I’ve read better. I desired better. The writing, at times, was pretentious. Why do authors feel the need to keep name dropping designers? You would think they were getting a check or something. Are these designers dropping their names in their ads?

I’m sure there will be some that absolutely love “Heartbreaker,” but, for me, it fell short. It’s what I would call a ‘library read.'

Heartbreaker is composed of three short stories by De'Nesha Diamond, Erick S. Gray, and Nichelle Walker. All of the stories showcase dynamic `get-back' characters who, in one way or another, are caught up in the glitz and glamour of high living, are clearly knocked off their pedestals, and redeem themselves or not.

I recommend Heartbreaker to readers who enjoy good short stories that are entertaining, easy to read, and want urban fiction reads in small doses. This book was provided by the publisher for review purposes.

This book was a nice compilation of 3 short stories. All 3 were very different but all had to deal with emotions and the crazy things people do in the name of them. Watch out for the 2nd story it was insane!

This book was great! Reminded me of some of the J.California Cooper Short stories, but hood! All of the writers were creative and imaginative in their writing, and sexy too! Loved it!

I am not a fan of multiple story books. But these three stories were really good.

I simply devoured this book! It had no pretense of being anything other that it was. Sometimes, you just need to get direct and cut to the chase: this book is HOT!

These four short stories were actually all pretty good.
Two are written by authors I really like. But even with those odds, I typically can't stand one.
The first, second, and third stories had narrators that waivered between sympathetic and not.
The last story was part of a series that I devoured. So the characters were familiar.
Good urban fiction with a few twists.
