Assuming that melodic flatulence to order is beyond all but the most inebriated rugby XVs, I shall call Fluff the Farting Fish a fictional short story. Able to read it front to back in an hour, Rosen's words are complemented by Tony Ross' illustrations on every page, reminding this reader of Dahl and Blake somewhat here.
Children can relate to the central pet character and, once the guffaws have subsided, will enjoy Rosen's silliness. The author talks directly to his audience in that famous style and tone of voice, asking them questions and having the answers gleefully called back. There's plenty of cultural (dimension) references to television and music to get dialogue and role play started, although Puccini and Lennon/McCartney may be beyond many young minds.
This book works from nursery into LKS2. My three year old managed to make a connection from a Viking helmeted Fluff to Cressida Cowell and her How to Train Your Dragon characters, showing some visual literacy from Ross' illustrations. She was keen to remove her eyeball too, copying Jeff the Juggler, enjoying reading for pleasure, and came up with a response of "I wish we had a fish", deriving even more joy from an accidental rhyme.
Burping Bertha from the same dynamic duo is up next.
This book is suitable for 5-7 year olds, and is just a little bit naughty, which should encourage lots of giggles. Bodily functions are always a subject of interest to children. There are line drawing illustrations throughout, which help to explain the text, which is mostly restricted to a few words on each page. There is a little twist at the end, which adds to the excitement. Overall a fun book, which is likely to be popular with young children.
The previous book by Rosen that I read featured burping, so it had to go up a level with this one and now features farting, of course. Farts the sound from the backside, bottom burps, pop offs, people losing their shopping, oooh he's cracked that one through the covers for four! All terms for what one dictionary defines as a small explosion between the legs! Anyway average silly read here.
Bir balık pırtlayarak şarkı söyleyebilir mi? Veya ünlü şarkıcılarla sahneye çıkabilir mi? Neden olmasın ki? bu kitapta göreceksiniz... Balık mı? Köpek mi bir daha düşün bence... '_'
Fluff the Farting Fish by Michael Rosen, illustrated by Tony Ross – 2nd grade and up – Fantasy (mainly because I’ve never heard of a farting fish that can sing, count, and communicate via fish farts) Really enjoyed reading this book, laughed all the way through to the end. Talk about a hilarious turn for the bizarre- Elvie really wanted a puppy and when she got a fish instead, she has quite a persistent focus on teaching the fish, Fluff, how to perform… Be ready to laugh! Excellent book for 2nd graders, reluctant readers, and those who love books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Goodreads Summary: “Elvie is desperate for a puppy that she can train up to do amazing tricks. Fluff can’t sit, she won’t bark on command, but she does have a very special fishy talent all of her own …” **Fish have been recorded farting, fyi, there’s a National Geographic video documenting such!
There are many books about a child wanting a puppy BUT first they have to 'prove themselves'. In this story the mother says 'Yes' on the first page. So where can the story go from here? Actually it's quite funny and when I read it to a group of children in a lunchtime, they laughed and enjoyed it.
