Don't Call Me Chip

Rate this book
Don't mess with Timothy. He might seem like your average chipmunk who loves seeds, sunbathing and enjoying a quiet life in the suburbs. But after new neighbors move in and wreak havoc, they will have to come face to face with his wit and resourcefulness. The last straw is that the new neighbors keep calling him Chip. Convincing all manner of rodents and other small wildlife to work together, Timothy launches an assault against their invasive neighbors. Based on a true character, this book is a clean, fun read for eight-grade reading level and over. This is the large print edition of Don't Call Me Chip, with a larger font / typeface for easier reading.

Don’t Call Me Chip is an animal story for eighth-graders by Neil O’Donnell. Timothy, a chipmunk, lives under the verandah of Mike’s home. Mike is an elderly man who made friends with the animals who live in the woods. Their peaceful, happy way of life is shattered when a family moves in next door. The family dislikes the animals, especially Timothy, whom they call Chip, much to his displeasure.

The kids think it’s fun torturing creatures and make every effort to capture Timothy. But Timothy has had enough of their abuse and decides to take matters into his own paws. He enlists other rodents’ and wildlife to band together and defend themselves against these horrible humans. A battle between humans and creatures to outsmart each other leads to serious repercussions.

Although written for eighth-graders, adults will be highly amused with this very entertaining story. Don’t Call Me Chip is a fun, action-packed book by Neil O’Donnell. It’s written in the first person, and the main character, Timothy, doesn’t mince words or restrain his feelings in a cleverly written, witty narration. The animals are adorable and they get their chance to describe what life’s like for them when humans destroy their habitats or woods.

Their defensive antics are funny but well justified, considering the situation. I thought the cover illustration fitting for the book. The author wrote expressively and one can see that he is a nature lover. Don’t Call Me Chip is a children’s animal book that I found delightful, while also educational.

I downloaded the audio book version of this from https://www.freeaudiobookcodes.com. I am so glad I did because it is absolutely hilarious.

A chipmunk raises an army of local wildlife to get rid of an obnoxious, conniving family that has just moved into the neighbourhood and he achieves this with gusto, courage and laughs.

Apparently this story is for readers who are 12 and older, but I am a very long way off 12 and I enjoyed it. I loved the characters, even the baddies but most of all I loved Timothy Patrick the chipmunk.

I will never look at local wildlife in quite the same way. It was a very entertaining book to listen to. Many thanks to the author for making free copies available.

If you have ever watched wildlife in your yard and wondered what it would be like to be them, then Neil O’Donnell has written a tale for you! Don’t Call Me Chip is a book about a chipmunk who hates strangers calling him Chip. In fact, he feels like every time he’s called Chip, he knows he’s going to have a bad experience with that person. Sadly, he’s right.

When he finds a new place to live, he bonds with the elderly man named Mikey who lives there, and he receives the name Timothy Patrick. He still experiences one harrowing situation after another, but Mikey and a whole community of wildlife want to help him. Rather than let themselves become underdogs accepting defeat, they start acting like militant superheroes. No matter what, they are determined to bravely face the difficulties together.

Opinion:
Don’t Call Me Chip is a humorous story about how wildlife can get revenge when humans are out to get them. Writing from the perspective of the chipmunk is a unique way to show readers how animals must live by their instincts and use whatever is around them for their survival. The story also teaches a lesson about the importance of having courage, staying positive, and asking for help from others in upsetting circumstances. It’s descriptive and uses some adult language, so it’s best for teens and adults. It even takes a peak at how fires and new housing developments can ruin natural habitats and force wildlife to relocate with only a moment’s notice. Anyone who appreciates wildlife or has had unusual encounters with nature should enjoy the good mix of silliness and seriousness that is woven into this story.

Why does everyone always insist on calling me Chip? I hate it, but every human I have ever met has called me it. Until I met Mikey. I had to leave my home when the house above it caught fire in. In the middle of my hibernation I might add. Still, I found Mikey's place and he's pretty okay for a human. Named me Timothy. Much better than Chip. Everything was great until he got some new neighbors who are intent on ending me. Only they don't know that us animals are the ones who perfected warfare long before humans thought it up. Bring it and may the best creature win.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This book is completely from the perspective of a small rodent. He is snarky, yet cares about others. It is sweet. He is a relatable character while the reader is at all times reminded that he is in fact an animal. The antics of this animal and the others as they try to save their homes and lives are amusing, yet disastrous for the terrible humans involved.

I'm not saying all the humans in this book are bad. They aren't Mikey for one. There are others as well. Just the one family the animals go to war with. They made a movie kind of like this book years ago. It's called Furry Vengeance. This book has very similar vibes, only we are from the animals perspective and there are many other differences as well. Just similar concept.

This book is a fast read, but will keep you interested throughout.

This is an adventurous story that centers on the life of Timothy Patrick Horrigan, who is a chipmunk. Timothy, who is unnamed at this point, is chased out of his home in the dead of the night by a fire and finds shelter in the wood pile outside of house that is home to Vietnam veteran Mikey Horrigan. Mikey takes and comforts Timothy as well as gives him his name. Timothy grows fond of his new home and roommates who are mice.

As time passes, a new family moves in next door and is rude and disrespectful to Mikey and all the animals. They also call Timothy "Chip," which he doesn't like. The animals decide to wage a war against these new humans. Timothy runs into many trials when trying to fight them off. Read more of Timothy's heroic fight in Don't Call Me Chip.

This is an exciting and fun book about a strong-willed chipmunk that wants to fight for his human and for the safety of all the animals in the woods. This is a great book that keeps you wondering what will happen next. The plot flows smoothly, and the words used eloquently describe with detail the bold and fearless Commander Timothy. The only detriment to this book is the slight use of colorful language to describe certain events. Overall, however, the book is amazing and gives insight to life as an animal.

Don’t Call Me Chip by Neil O’Donnell
Timothy Patrick Horrigan and Mikey Horrigan live together on the same land in the story, Mikey, an elderly gentleman, resides in the house above. Timothy Patrick Horrigan, a very delightful chipmunk lives underneath the verandah deck with close friends, Mandy and family of mice and other furry critters nearby. When new neighbours show themselves to be horrible including calling Pest Exterminators Timothy realises there must be a war. The children have no manners or kindness for any living creature, even including Mikey, threatening him harm and Timothy realises it is up to the furry critters to defend their home and land. The unpleasant children learned their behaviour from unpleasant parents, and Mikey was devastated to hear that the mother had done away with his little chipmunk mate. However our chipmunk friend is resourceful and I’m not giving away a spoiler, only making it possible for gentle souls like myself to be able to read this novel, without fear she would be in floods of tears at any time. This is a delightful story I wish my mum was still alive to read, but I’m certainly glad I was able to devour it. Please enjoy it as I did!
I received a free copy of the book, but the review is entirely my own.

You will love getting to know Timothy Patrick Horrigan, who HATES to be called 'Chip'. And you will quickly become immersed in his adventures which start with him being burned out of his home and losing all his carefully collected and stored food to get him through the winter. As you follow him in his search for a new home and meet his new friends, including 'the nicest human ever' Mikey Horrigan, you will delight in his antics and egg him on through the drastic steps he, and his friends under his command, take to save their homes and their neighborhood. An imaginative and delightful read for all ages! I was gifted this book but the review and opinions are all mine. And my opinion is that this is a wonderful book, even if Timothy doesn't think much of most humans!

This sounded really cute in the description but the voice used for the chipmunk really just got to me... it's a cross between a tough mobster/gangster and add a nasal touch to it, There were times he sounded more gangster then others, kind of like he forgot to keep the accent going. I just couldn't get past it and felt the perspective given was a bit to knowledgable of some human things and then a bit too lacking in other areas. I just wasn't for me personally but I could see older elementary age kids enjoying it.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

An Irreverent and amusing tale about a chipmunk with vengeance in mind.

If you've ever wondered what the world might be like for a chipmunk and his pals, particularly if they were facing down some not very friendly neighbors, this book is for you. I'd say it's a bit like Over the Hedge meets Batteries Not Included with its own narratives and plenty of humor. Audio work was great and fits the overall tone nicely, including unique characters and an overall tone that helps navigate us through sudden change, rodent warfare, and plenty of good points about the cost of human ignorance on wildlife. Highly recommended!

~Disclaimer: I received a free audiobook copy of this book. ~

I’d suggest that you listen to the sample before buying. The voice the narrator uses for Timothy might not work for everyone. I found it humorous, but I imagine it might not float everyone's boat.I did find the mouse's voice a bit tedious, but they weren’t a large part of the book and aren’t a deal breaker.

I thought it was an enjoyable short listen/read. The story isn’t very deep. Mikey was a likeable character and in a strong contrast to the new on terrible neighbors. Timothy made for an engaging protagonist and his revenge was clever.

Probably best for younger readers/listeners.

I received a copy of Don't Call Me Chip from Author Neil O'Donnell and have decided to post a review. This is such a lovely book. Brings back memories of the Chipmunks of my youth. I think this would make a really good movie. Perfect for kids and adults of all ages. A mean nasty family threatens the little Chipmunk's human friend and ultimately his animal friends as well. Think 'Home Alone' meets 'Flushed Away'! Read this great book to a child and for yourself.

{spoiler alert} Wonderful fun book

This book was so good.I loved it so much.I hope it has great reviews.Thank you for the book. And your time for writing this. My favorite part is when the big war is on and also when Mikey helped all the animals too. Thank you :) -Robbie

This is a delightful story that kept my son engaged and entertained. The only sad part was the use of “colorful” language in the beginning chapters that could have had better words chosen.

A unique middle grade book.
I think it lacked imagination from a chipmunk’s perspective. He seemed to be too humanistic with understanding guns or behavior yet naive about other things.
The all out war with the neighbor kept me somewhat entertained on a rainy commute but I expected more comedy than I received.
Narration was okay for our cocky, snarky Timothy.

This is my voluntary review of an audiobook received for free.

Written from a chipmunk's point of view, this book is hilarious! But it also explores a family dynamic among different kinds of rodents. Rats, mice, moles, voles, woodchucks and even a skunk join Timothy (don't call him Chip!) in the war against the "bad" humans next door. Lol fun, with an excellent pinch of tolerance. Loved it!

A nice and fast-paced story

This story is told by a chipmunk Timothy who becomes friends with a human.
The story is fun and quite short (it took me a couple of hours to read it.)
This story can be read together with the kids as it teaches a lot about nature, friendship, and kindness. I really enjoyed reading it!
