Love at Solace Lake #1

Lies and Solace

Rate this book
Love is worth the risk... When their grandfather dies, the Lindquist sisters, Harper, Scarlet and Maggie, inherit the northern Minnesota fishing lodge that had been in their family for three generations. The inheritance is bittersweet. They were raised at the lodge by their grandparents. The natural beauty of the place hasn’t changed, but the building itself is crumbling and desperately in need of repair. The lodge also reminds them of what they lost. Twenty-two years previously, their parents died there in what was ruled a murder/suicide. As the sisters struggle to breathe new life into the failing lodge, old fears and questions rise to the surface even as new love presents itself. Why did their father murder their mother? What truths did their grandparents keep from them? The sisters must fight to keep the wounds of the past from putting their futures, and their fledgling relationships, in jeopardy. Lies and Solace She can’t live with one more lie. He can’t tell the truth. Harper Lindquist is convinced she’s found the answer to her financial prayers. Unless she pours cash into crumbling Solace Lake Lodge, she’ll lose her family’s legacy. Her would-be savior arrives in the middle of a Minnesota blizzard and she’s determined to prove to her reluctant, and trapped, financier the lodge is a sound investment. But Harper isn’t completely honest with him. And she has no idea the lake is hiding secrets of its own. Ethan James is a liar, but his money is very real. He isn’t convinced a broken-down inn is a smart investment opportunity. But the more he understands Harper’s dreams and desires, the more he wants to be the man to make them come true. The trauma in both their pasts means neither can fully trust the other. They must find the courage to love, to trust, and to accept, or yesterday’s sorrows will keep them apart.

While I did enjoy this book, I thought it dragged a bit in the middle. And the lies alluded to in the title that were so important, I thought were easily understood by adults. It was almost like the author was trying to create this grand dramatic scene, but the foundation was way to silly for it to work.

The characters were great. I liked both main characters. They seemed well rounded, perhaps Mary Sue-ish, but it worked on them. They were really cute together. Your also met the brothers and sisters. You know the next book is going to be about the skeptical emotional sister and the suspicious heartbroken brother. That book will be a wild ride!

I know I wrote some negative things, but I stick by the first thing I said, I did enjoy the book. If you like romances, read this book. It is the start of a series that I think is going to get better and better!

Harper is desperately trying to get the financial back to keep her family's lodge afloat. She meets with Ethan who has plans of his own. Their meeting is extended due to a wicked snowstorm and sparks fly. Can these two see the hidden gem of the lodge or will the lies and deceit crash their budding romance?

I liked this romance and while it lagged in places, it was a great start to a new series. I connected with Harper and her wanting to hold onto her family's legacy at all costs. Ethan's secret was predictable but understood why he had to hide it from Harper. The romance was sweet.

A bit more heat and this book would be perfection! I’ve been going back and forth for the rating. Four stars? No, it is so freaking good. Five stars? It needs more heat. I really wish we gave out half stars. After a mental debate I’m going with five stars. I couldn’t stop reading! If your looking for a slow burning contemporary romance, you have to read Lies and Solace! http://thetbrpile.weebly.com/reviews/...

Lies and Solace, the first book in the Love at Solace Lake series, was a wonderful read. The prologue set the stage and the epilogue gave nice closure. It was great to see the prologue and first chapter from the second book in the series, Secrets and Solace. It left me wanting more and gives more background information that I didn’t know I was longing for.

Harper is doing everything she can to save the lodge that has been in her family for three generations. She and her sisters inherited it when her grandfather died and it’s taking all she can to keep it viable. Her sisters don’t understand her attachment to it. Ethan James and the foundation he works for is the last hope she has to keep it going and get the renovations she needs. When they meet, during a blizzard no less, things heat up quickly as the snow continues to pile up outside. They have immediate chemistry which they both fight, since she needs this deal to solve her financial problems. Does she get that and more given their chemistry? What do his siblings think of his actions? Do they think history is repeating itself?

I liked the way their families played into the story as well as their histories. All the siblings have doubts about where their attraction is heading except for them. There are family and friends, lots of secrets and lies, hurt, anger, fear, happiness, elation, estimates, building issues, the lake, the weather, lots of hard work, satisfaction, reminisces, loving and love. When secrets or lies try to derail them will Harper or Ethan let them? Will there be any I told you so’s thrown in? The addition of Willy and Abby, friends of Harper and her sisters mother growing up, threw in another dynamic that wasn’t yet fully explored. There are a depth to the characters that we find out about a little at a time but there still seem to be unexplored areas. There is some closure and a happily ever after and hints of what’s more to come. I for one am looking forward to the next two books in the series.

Richards is a new to me author and I look forward to reading more of her books.

Harper Lindquist wants to get Solace Lake Lodge Running again after years of it falling into despair after the death of her parents and then by her grandma and lastly her grandpa. She doesn't want to sell the Lodge based on what it meant to her family but she knows that she is running out of time and may be forced to sell unless she can find an investor.

Ethan James works for Hainstock Investments and he is looking to buy the property to build a golf course and vacation condos. When he is forced to stay at the Lodge for extra time due to a winter storm he listens to the proposal Harper has and is intrigued by her ideas.

Will Harper and Ethan be able to come togetehr to get the Lodge up and running or will the golf course be the best viable option? Will secrets that both are keeping ruin everything they have both worked hard to get?

This was a good book and I really enjoyed it.

I liked Harper and really understood why she wanted to hold onto the Lodge but in a way I was surprised with all of the heartache that was created at the Lodge. She seemed to have a new relationship with her sisters because of wanting to fix up the Lodge and I understood why her sister's wanted to move on with their lives.

I liked Ethan but I was a little mad when he put his golf course ideas on Harper thinking she would be happy to agree. I liked that he listened to her proposal about the Lodge and helped formulate a bigger plan. Once I knew his secret I hoped he would tell her before it would explode, which I knew it would given that Harper hates lies.

I loved the history of the Lodge and the mystery of her parents and I wonder if they will slowly release more details through the series.

I felt bad at how everything came out to Harper but I loved that her sisters came through for her with the Lodge when she needed them the most. I loved how Ethan's sister Lydia came through when needed to let the past come out and why Ethan was guarded.

Great beginning to the series!

What a sweet and lovely small-town romance! The hero and the heroine have complex backstories that are revealed in a perfect dripwise fashion that show the basis for their goals and motivations, allowing the reader to easily empathize with them as they struggle with inner conflicts dealing with their secrets and what they have withheld from each other.

The book starts off dramatically with a scene from the distant past when the heroine’s parents died in a drowning accident when Harper was a child. The book then fast forwards to her at the age of 32 when she is trying to obtain investment capital to help restore the lodge that's been in her family for three generations. Ethan, the hero, is a complex character, on the one hand sweet and caring and on the other fearful of rejection or maltreatment due to his secrets.

Now, when I said the book was sweet up above, I didn't mean it wasn't steamy! They have a caring bond that does carry over into intimacy towards the end of the book. Will their secrets tear them apart? Will Harper have the lodge of her dreams? Will her sisters start pitching in?

This book was refreshingly light on punctuation and grammar issues. It was a delight to read in that aspect as well as the good storytelling as detailed above.

If you like small town romance with complex characters, you'll find this book a treat.

Lies and Solace is the first book in a new series titled, Love at Solace Lake by Jana Richards. It is also the first book I have read by this author. Overall it has a wholesome feel to the storyline but does include a few more explicit intimate scenes. It has likable characters who tend to overthink, but don’t we all?

The story-line includes charming sentimental renovation of a family lodge, mysterious deaths, secrets between the two main characters. I must admit that the relationships between the two groups of siblings were as interesting as the relationship that developed between Harper and Ethan. Harper and Ethan’s story sags in the middle but picked up by the end. The conclusion just goes to show that there are good people still in this world.

In fact, I am not sure which of Harper’s sisters that I hope gets the next book. Both Scarlet and Maggie are women with secrets of their own. However, what I am sure of is that I would want to read the next. Now that the groundwork for the series has been laid, this series should get even better

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

All Harper Lindquist wants is to find someone to help save her beloved family lodge. Ethan James wants someone to love him for himself. When they are thrown together by a Minnesota blizzard that turns a three hour meeting into a three day forced togetherness everything changes for them both. The descriptions of the lake and surrounding woods are so vivid you can smell the pines. The characters are skillfully built and all of them are hiding something. When will they trust one another enough to tell the truth? This is a slow burn and sensual story that will leave your heart warmed by the happy ever after.

I enjoyed Harper and Ethan's story a lot, enough that I'm anxious to get to the next sister. I want to get deeper into what drove their parents' actions years before the girls' stories, actions that made deep ripples in the peace of Solace Lake. The characters are full and rich and, most importantly, different from each other. Setting is always important to me, and Ms. Richards has done a great job with it here, putting me right in the snow in the woods. As a matter of fact, I'd like to sit in one of the cabins and look out at the lake while I'm writing some stories of my own.

Harper is looking for investors to buy into her grandparents lodge. She meets Ethan who states he works for the company that’s willing to invest. Things won’t be as easy as she thinks when it comes to redecorating the lodge. The relationship between Ethan and Harper isn’t easy in the book as there’s a lot of hidden truths and lies. This makes for a interesting storyline and keeps the reader hooked. I did enjoy this story and I’m looking forward to reading book two in the series. As there still some key facts in the book that need to be cleared up. Reviewed by Jennifer

A really great start to the series. Harper is one of three sisters who was raised by their grandparent after the death of their parents. Now Harper is the only sister still in the rundown family lodge and she needs help to restore it and keep it up and running. That where Ethan comes into the picture but he is not sure the Inn is a good investment. This was a good read with plenty of twists I cannot wait for the next book.

The first book in the Love at Solace Lake series a well written book that held my interest throughout. This series deals with the Lindquist sisters Harper, Scarlet and Maggie, this is Harper and Ethan James' story. Of two people keeping secrets from each other and that just might make it so they will lose each other. Read this book to find out how things turn out. The writing draws you in and keeps you involved throughout the whole story, I found myself in love with not only the characters but also the world that was created.

The descriptions of the characters and their feelings are so involved, you can truly picture it in your mind. Their attitudes toward the events that are happening makes the story even richer.

Engaging bit of escapism. Winning the lottery. Inheriting a lodge. What could go wrong? While I did skip over the intimate scenes, the actual story keep me turning the pages. I even read the first chapter of the sequel included. I am eager to read more about Solace Lake and the sisters. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley for my voluntary review.

There is mystery with the lodge and Harper. Ethan decides to pretend he isn't the boss and see if he is treated differently by Harper. These two almost lose each other, because of their lies. This is a good series and I am looking forward to reading the next book!
