What happens when you are asked to give up what you love? When you are forced to end your career?Born to Run is about Noah Laurent, a secondary character in the Counterpoints series -a top race driver who is asked to leave his team at the end of the series.Noah is cold blooded, brutally honest and just doesn't care about anything and anyone. He's made his way up the ladder all by himself. He's well known for his outbursts with the press and in the boxes. But he's also an ace, a top driver. And just when he thinks he's done fighting, he meets someone that will get him back on track.... literally.Reading the Counterpoints series is not necessary but would help understand better the character.

After reading Born To Run, the first thing that comes to my mind is that the author seems to know what she's talking about. After being forced to watch F1 racing when I was younger by my father, I sort of know some terminology of the racing world. I'm pleased to see that the author has either a knowledge or has actually researched their key theme. It always grates on me when this doesn't happen.

Adding onto this, after I was forced to watch F1 in my youth, I can honestly say that my later years I have dedicated to NOT watching F1 or any racing for that matter, so I actually thought I'd dislike that aspect of the book but I found myself quite enjoying it. All that tension of will she/won't she win the race had me getting quite excited.

The characters were a fab pairing but I found myself wishing for a bit more tension between them in the beginning. A little more of a standoffish vibe would have given me more goosebumps. As a novella though I can appreciate that you can't really drag a story out. It was necessary to segregate each chapter into start and complete so that it fit the novella typecasting.
Their chemistry together though was really hot and I felt they both suited one another.

I'd highly recommend reading the Counterpoints series too, if only to get a feel for the secondary characters that are now in Born To Run. However, the Counterpoints series doesn't have to be read in order to enjoy this book, it has its own story, a beginning and ending. I just wish I'd had time to read the series beforehand for my own personal understanding. That will be rectified though as soon as I'm able.

5 Fast Stars!

It is very rare for me to like a novella even more than the series, but I cannot deny how much I loved Noah’s story. It may have a little, or a lot, to do with his being imperfect. Sure, Christopher too had a couple skeletons in his closet, but here we’re not talking about Noah’s past or things he did, but rather about the man himself.

He is a self-proclaimed a-hole. He’s a man who doesn’t mince his words, speaks his mind in every situation, and doesn’t give two shits what others things of him.

What I loved about him is that I found him more mature in than in the series. Retiring from the MB has been a hard hit for him, and yet he landed on his feet… and some more. I liked his role as an instructor, the fact that he was tough but fair.

And then his relationship with Vera. It’s no surprise I liked those two together. They’re both talented racers, but underdogs. Tough on the outside, hot-tempered, but also vulnerable. They had and have to fight for their dreams and that is something I will never stop appreciating in characters.

Their relationship was special. I liked the build up, the slow burn, the fact that even though they were instructor and trainee, they were always on equal ground and they never really crossed the line into lewd territory, since I could really feel the feelings between the two. The author did an amazing job at creating the wonderful dynamics between them.

Even though it was a novella, this story had a complete arch. It read like a novel without unnecessary parts and I literally finished it in one sitting.

The only thing I was not 100% keen of, because of how I am, was the long-ish separation at a certain point. It’s one of my pet peeves. I understand it was needed for the story, but I just wanted to grab them like dolls and push them together saying: “Kiss!”. Lol, I so cannot handle angst and separation.

Aaaaaanyway. I truly loved it. The writing style gets better with every book in the series and even compared to Skins, another standalone from this author, I found this novella more mature, more… complete and on point. And also, well, I have a thing for assholes with a golden heart. Seeing Noah’s thaw day by day while training with Vera was endearing.

One last thing I was to say about it is that it felt empowering. Minor spoiler here, but Vera is a racer, the first woman racer in the category in which she dreams to race for. Her journey is not easy. It’s a bumpy ride and full of obstacles.

I think all women can relate to the struggles of wading their way in a man’s world, when being taken seriously takes always double the effort, where gender equality is sometimes just a nice slogan.

Seeing her fight, sweat for her dream, and Noah support her and believe in her like no one had before… it left me a bit more hopeful.

This is the first book by Laura Rossi I have read, and I feel like perhaps I needed to read the other books to fully get a feel for Noah.

He seems to have quite the chip on his shoulder. Kicked out of First Category racing, Noah turns to training up and coming racers, preparing them for the real deal.

Vera is one of the best he's seen. She has a feel for the track and a determination to be the first woman in First Category. But he knows all too well what she'll be up against. The rules and the powers that be won't like her being out there.

I have to say, I found this a little hard to get in to, but as I said earlier, it may have been better if I had a little more backstory. I'm not sure. It was a little jumpy, and could have done with a final proofread. That being said, as the story progressed, it got better. I felt the hurt along with Vera, felt the invigoration with Noah, felt the victory of them both.
I've not read any racing books before, and I have to say, the author seemed to really know her stuff. It felt as though a racer had written it, and that takes skill.

Born To Run: A Counterpoints Novella

First thing I need to say is – Noah I love you!! I wasn’t a particular fan of his during the counterpoints series and I wasn’t completely sure I would like a book about him – but I did! I loved every single second of this novella – I never wanted it to end. Not only is it still a story about my favourite sport but it addressed something I am dying to see change – female race drivers! Vera was a hit with me from the start – she was feisty, sharp witted and she put those racing drivers in their place on more than one occasion!! I was cheering her along from the side-lines and my heart broke right along with
It isn’t necessary to have read the Counterpoints series prior to this novella but I would highly recommend that you do first!
Congratulations Laura on this amazing novella – your writing is amazing and I am so pleased to have been able to read all of your books so far! I cannot wait to see what you come out with in the future!

Go on, admit it...we all love an a**ehole don't we!

Noah is definitely one of those and Laura Rossi has most certainly made him one of the most loveable I've come across in a while. Having read the first 3 books in the counterpoint series I was really eager to find out what happened to Noah.

This is a cute tale of fighting against the odds, both for love and life.
Sexism in sport (and life in general) is an ever present concern but one that very rarely seems to be touched up on. I loved the fact that Laura Rossi brought this topic to the forefront of this novella. Vera (there's a story there...i know it's an awful name but a young woman but it's totes emosh!) is a wonderful leading lady. Feisty, enthusiastic, bitchy and bursting with confidence and desire. My heart broke for her when her world came crashing down but then Noah bounded in, putting a smile on everyone's face.
This is the perfect little read to make your heart sigh while you're on a long commute. And there's no need to read books 1 through 3 yo enjoy this one...although i really suggest you do!

"I knew what I was. I was the girl that once believed in fairy tales, until I was thrown off my horse and reminded of what life was really all about."

I really enjoyed this novella! What a great addition to the Counterpoint series! Even though Noah wasn't the focus of that series, we all wanted more of him!

Vera Evans has one goal - to make it to First Category. She'll do anything she has to in order to get there. For as long as she can remember, she's been determined to break in to the good ol' boy racing industry. Focus, focus, focus- no distractions. That is, until she starts training with Noah Laurent. The attraction between them is undeniable, the chemistry off the charts. When all her training pays off, can she chase her dreams and keep Noah too?

Noah Laurent knows there is no one to blame but himself for being released from his team. Now, working for Christopher's Drivers Academy, he trains the next generation of up and coming drivers. Never did he think he'd be training a woman. He knows all too well the hurdles she will face with no support, no connections, not to mention there has never been a female driver. He vows to not treat her any differently than the other drivers - to push her to her limits. And he doesn't - if you don't count kissing her and taking her to his bed. Her dream is to race First Category, and he won't let her fail. He'll make sure she gets her dream, even if it means letting her go.

I loved Noah. He's one of my favorite kinds of characters - tortured, regretful, and trying to put it all behind him and do what's right. Not to mention he is one sexy guy! I loved the banter between he and Vera and the fact that she dishes it right back to him. I love a strong female character -one that challenges her hero and stands up for herself in the process. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down.

Such a great, quick read!!

Although a novella, this book packs a punch and I absolutely loved the fact that the female lead character was not only the star of the show, she was a young woman full of grit and determination to make it, in this Car Racing Man's World!! Noah is a man you either love or hate, and i loved him. He said what he meant and took no crap, but underneath the exterior there was an amazing guy !!
Vera is taken on to train in the racing academy by Noah, ex (forced to retire) Champion Racing Driver, and its not long till its not only the tyres that are the hottest thing between them.
Noah is reluctant to train a woman, but he's soon won over with her skills behind the wheel. Not only does he boost her confidence, he ingrains the tools she will need to survive this male chauvinistic world, and the way it will drive her confidence in herself into the ground.

I really enjoyed this book, and its felt so much more than a novella, it doesn't lack depth or bones to the story and i felt nothing was cut short in it. Their growing relationship was so easily believable, even when she felt abandoned by Noah, she realised he was doing it to make her stronger. When her dreams seem to be coming true, Noah Steps back not wanting to hinder her rise, but there comes a time when he just melted my heart and stood up to all in the most amazing way!! Definitely a book you can read and thoroughly enjoy in a day with characters you will be left wanting so much more from !!!!

I've had Counterpoints on my kindle for months and never gotten round to reading it. It’s not something I've ever been interested in, racing cars or drivers - I see enough of it a weekends when my husband has it on. When I read Skins by this author I absolutely loved it so when I noticed Born to Run was a novella from the Counterpoints series I had to give it a go. This story grabbed my attention from the first page. Not coming from money or a family of racing driver legends that will automatically get them on the best teams, the two main characters are amazing. Noah is not your typical racing driver. Nothing has come easy for him and he has had to fight all the way to the top earning himself the reputation of being an arrogant man. But once you start to read this book it's clear he has a heart of gold. Vera is just like him in not coming from money or a family of racing driver legends. Noah know how hard it going to be for her to get noticed but also she has another disadvantage - she's a woman so even though she has all the talent of one of the best drivers no one will take her seriously. My heart was breaking for these two. They clearly have so much in common and have strong feelings for each other yet both keep denying what the heart wants. Yet again amazing story by this author my only regret is i didn’t read Counterpoints first. Highly recommend this story to everyone.

Born To Run, A Counterpoints Series Novella by Laura Rossi.

I didn't know what to expect from this novella, but I was pleasantly surprised by the storyline, and it's twist and turns. It was bittersweet to read about Christopher and Isabella, and not get more of them! But I feel in love with Noah and Vera!

The author kept Noah true to himself, and acted like the asshole he was in Counterpoints Series, were we first meet him. But now we get to pick his brain, take a look behind the scene, pop the hood (pun intended),so to speak. And we get to know Noah. The real Noah. And then we get to know that he actually has self insight..and knows when he is doing something...stupid. But it's a couple of years later, and it seems like he has grown up, mature a bit. Which makes him a total hottie!

"I was a woman, my balls were hidden, but they were there." -Vera

Vera Evans, strong and beautiful. Full of sass and determination!

The author keeps true to her writing style, and is great at giving the characters depth and soul!

As soon as I opened the book I was hooked. The story of Noah and Vera and how their attraction grows is lovely. As a follower of motorsport, I loved how the author showed how difficult it is for a woman to make it in a very male orientated world. It's written extremely well and the author again "knows her stuff" when it comes to the sport. Both the main characters are passionate about their sport and it comes through very well in the book. The relationship between them has me willing them both on. I haven't read the other books in this series, but I will now. A beautifully written story.

I always knew that Noah could be redeemed. Even though I enjoyed the first three books, for me, this was by far the best. I really enjoyed it. Even when Noah was a douche in the first three books, I knew he had a story to tell. I'm just glad that this novella was published, because it was a perfect ending to the series. Noah and Vera were like two peas in a pod, and even though I had a sneaky feeling where this story was going at the beginning it didn't take anything away from the story. I look forward to reading more by Miss Rossi.

I received an ARC for an honest review
Review by Country Gals Book Blog

We met Noah in the Counterpoints series and we all know him as the “a$$hole” of the sport and Christopher’s teammate/rival. This time we get to see Noah meet his match with Vera Evans. She’s strong, confident, and meets Noah head on with a take no crap attitude. She knows what she wants and she will prove she’s worth it as the first woman in the first category racing. I loved her fight, her snarky comments, and her going after what she wanted and to see Noah get kicked down a peg was fun. I wished for Noah to find his happiness and now we get to see it.

You don’t want to miss this novella. Another great story by Laura with imagination and great writing.

This is nothing like the story of Christopher but an extension of the antics and change of relationship between these two racers. Now that Noah is working for Christopher and still able to at least be a part of the racing world his focus has shifted to teaching. While he still has issues with the way things ended he now is using it to make his trainees the best. And now he has a woman wanting to train. Seeing Noah in this new light and the lengths he will go thru for his trainees is enlightening and refreshing.
I am loving this author and her unique style of writing a story and bringing it all to light. Her characters test you, the story revives you and when it’s all said and done you are glad you took the time. Great read.

Well where do I start? Laura is not a new author to me I've actually read everything she has written and this book has got to be my favourite so far. I fell in love with Noah in the counterpoints series so was so glad when laura gave him his own story I really wanted to know more about him and I wasn't disappointed that's for sure then we more on to vera well she is strong and feisty I loved her straight away. I loved how laura picked up on the lack of females in the sport and how it is a very man oriented and woman are not really given a chance. I feel it has a really good message behind the hot fantastic story. Definitely definitely deserves the 5* I've given it and I would and will be recommending this book to everyone.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved this story about Noah and Vera and did not want it to end. It’s an amazing story of two people fighting against the odds and succeeding. It’s an uphill battle all the way but it shows what determination can do. Laura Rossi is a wonderful author and i will continue to read all of her books. This is one book you don’t want to miss.

I loved the Counterpoints Series and I was a little unsure if I could read a book about just Noah but I have to say, I loved it!! The characters were brilliant, Vera was Sassy, Honest and Stood no crap. Noah, was HOT and it was lovely to still have Christopher and Isabella in the background. I love how the authors writing improves with each book, I'm looking forward to reading more from this author 💗 x

Noah and Vera , what a beautiful and inspiring story!
I am new to Laura and her way with words and I must say I loved her characters and story telling !
Noah is our formula driver that had been forced into retirement for his antics and attitude . He now is a instructor for the world of racing .
Vera , she is talented , driven and sassy. She has worked hard to succeed in a man's world and has been the butt of many jokes but now she has a chance . She is being trained by one of the driving worlds best instructors. Noah may be reluctant in the beginning but once he sees the talent and power that Vera holds he knows without a doubt that she can pull ahead in this business .
You know that the attraction is there but you want Vera to have it all ! Noah also wants that for her but this journey will be rocky and take many turns !
Loved their story!

Noha is back! I'm in love with his character since the beginning of Counterpoints!
Honestly, I always imagined Noha to be more of an “ass#°le”, compared to how the author decided to describe him in this novella, I mean, sometimes I found myself thinking “He is too nice to be Noha”.
That said, It's a good book, absolutely well written and enjoyable, definitely worth reading.
This author has improved  big times from her first books! I appreciate  her writing style, especially the fact that she never gets bogged down in unnecessary details.
If you loved the Counterpoints series, you definitely can't miss Born to run.

Refreshing

I always wonder what happened to Noah after he was forced to retire and I love that he got his happy ending. Although he was annoying (a...)for lack of a better word, I always felt bad for him. You could see that he wasn't bad at all time and it shows when he ended working at the Academy for Christopher. I loved how his character was developed in this novella and see him in a different light. Seeing him interact with Vera and how much she reminded him of himself when going through the struggle of being a First Category Racing racer. I loved how he pushed her to follow her dream even after she had given up all hopes. Love it!

I was pulled in from the beginning and hearing Vera’s story is so empowering. Noah and Christopher had me cracking up with their antics and I enjoyed seeing them stand their ground and wholeheartedly support individuals they believe in. It’s not often you come across a race car driving story and this novella did not disappoint, the storyline held strong throughout and we’re given details in all the right places without it being overkill. This is part of the Counterpoints Series but you can easily enjoy this story without feeling lost and out of place with the characters. I highly recommend you one click your copy now and bump this book to the top of your TBR list.

5 Race Hard and Fight Hard Stars!!!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review.

Noah Laurent finds himself with no career and no energy to fight. As he embraces an opportunity for a new career, he meets someone who pushes his boundaries and pushes him to return to his original passion for racing.

Born to Run is a novella to the counterpoint series by Laura Rossi, and focuses on the secondary character, Noah.

I was excited to read Noah’s story, although I’d had a love hate relationship with him throughout the counterpoint series, I knew there was more to him and he had a whole story of his own to tell. Laura Rossi did not disappoint; she has given us the reader, a chance to discover what made Noah the arrogant, hard faced racer. Having now read his story, I understand why he acted how he did and did the things he did.

Reading Noah’s story, I found myself full of compassion for him. He had truly worked hard to for his racing career, he hadn’t had the easy path that so many racers did. I also found Noah to be a loyal and caring friend.

When Noah took his racing talent to a different level and choose to help others, we got to see how truly talented he was, not only on the track, but at spotting future talent.

Without a doubt Noah completely won me over in his Novella and I find myself wanting to ask the author for a little more, simply because this novella wasn’t enough to quench my thirst for Noah Laurent.

Although this story can be read as a standalone, I think to truly enjoy this story you need to read the Counterpoints series. Romance, racing, adrenaline, suspense, the Counterpoint series by Laura Rossi has them all and more.

I loved this book, even though I read it out of sequence with the rest of the series. It was really easy to read as a standalone.
The need for speed is in their blood, and they do it their way, and at any costs to get the point across.

Noah is the bad boy of motor racing, he don't give two shits what people think of him. Booted from racing to become an instructor and man does he have a special interest in one of the student's. She's better than the men he's teaching, but the industry is wrong on so many levels.

Vera is up against the odds, she knows it and so does her instructor Noah. But with Noah at least he's always been upfront with her, he knows she's got what it takes, but it's a mans sport.

Can she prove to the rest of the racing world she deserves her spot on that podium?
Will they speed on as a duo? Or will it all go horribly wrong?

I loved this book! I really thought there was no way that Noah could redeem himself but I am glad that I was wrong. He really does have a lot of heart. Vera was absolutely loveable. I loved her spunk and fire. This story will make you smile, laugh out loud in some parts and makes you feel very glad that you read it. I read this in one sitting and couldn't put it down. I definitely recommend this one.
