Adam is the first person to reach level 10 and leave the Village of Beginnings, but before he can even reach the Sun Continent, the vessel he's on is attacked by pirates! Age of Gods continues to be the most realistic game he has ever played. Nothing about it is like the old VR games of yesteryear, and he isn't just talking about how oddly real the non-player characters act. While the game might just be incredibly realistic and nothing more, the problems he faces are quite real. Now that he has left the Village of Beginnings, his goal is Continue to level up, rise in fame, and help Fayte win her bet against Levon Ploenexia. And the best way to do that is to make sure he and his new companions acquire some unique hidden classes!
Brandon Varnell is the author of several book series, all of which involve anime-inspired fanservice. Having been an anime nerd for basically his whole life, his books tend to reflect that. He likes writing stories with loads of T&A, shonen-style battle scenes, and steamy romances that are both light-hearted and erotic. He is also a huge fan of harem anime, so most of his books feature harem romances. If that bothers you, you probably shouldn't read his books.

I spent most of this book thinking about what I wanted to read next. I got impatient for it to be over. Man Made God 002 is not offensive, or objectionable. I just kind of dissociated from the plot and characters. -Ironically, this is a slightly better book than book 001. it is shorn of some of the stupidity. There are two reasons why this book lost me personally. #1 Brandon Varnell padded this one out with pages and pages of stats. The MC Adam checks his stats every other chapter. It not only goes through his basic stats, but also all of his abilities and all of his equipped items, and all of their abilities ...every few chapters. I'm doing this book on audio and every stat check takes up to 10 minutes for the main character. When they do multiple characters I feel so bad for Tess Irondale who is narrating. I suspect that about 10% of this book is just stats. #2. The douchebag that Fate (lead female character) made her bet with VIOLATED the TERMS of the BET. That's it, the wager is null & void. You can keep going with the story, but that bet is kaput. ...and yet (sigh) everybody acts like it didn't just happen. even the people who stand to loose everything and win nothing they don't already have, they don't call this guy on it. - I've got a rule. if the characters don't care, then I don't either. Anyway, I kept trying to get to the end but I was tuning out, distracted, and just ready to move on with my life. So I did. I think I'm done with Brandon Varnell.
Tropes, cliches, and an inability to speak like a normal person.
If you like anime or wuxia tropes with a Western frame to it, you’ll probably enjoy this book. If you get irritated when the (supposed) genius assassin, the talented employer, and genius level hacker are oblivious to everything going on around them and seem to be physically incapable of just saying what they’re thinking just once, this probably won’t be for you.
I don’t understand why everything is a secret all of the time. The person curing an incurable disease for the woman you love isn’t worth anything beyond casual or friendly topics? Oh, you know the guy you hired to basically single handedly win a major bet for you after your hacker friend tracked him down?? Nah, don’t tell him anything beyond the bare minimum and make sure to hesitate every time he says something serious. It’s like watching emotionally and socially stunted middle schoolers doing improv in drama class.
A really enjoyable follow up to the first book as the story continues. Brandon has put all the females in the story into really bad situations which I find a little annoying. Having women in the story being subservient to males harks back to the 1900’s where women were mere arm candy for the men. This dystopian future where rich families use their female children as marriage fodder for higher ranked families really doesn’t sit well with me. I prefer strong female characters acting as such. Fayte’s situation I know is a plot device, but I really don’t see why any woman would have accepted this one sided deal/bet. Still a really enjoyable LitRPG novel.
I was able to read an early copy of this story. I really enjoyed this second installment to the story. The relationship between the main characters continue to evolve becoming more rich and fulfilling. The challenges and the so-called bad guys continue to increase and in the latter case become more interesting and sinister. Many hard choices and circumstances both in the game and out of the game are heading our heroes way. I for one can hardly wait for the next book to find out what happens next but I guess I will have too.
This series is a great deal of fun for fans of LitRPG. One (sort of) big change between volume one and two is the tables were removed for the stats. This is a good thing. The MC is OP, but you can tell he will need to be very soon. The other characters are varied and interesting. One thing I haven’t been able to understand is the fact that the MC has several out of game enemies that are still breathing... just saying. Doesn’t make sense for the presented character and his mentality, especially when one of them “killed” someone he cared about.
Another 3.5. Backstory fills in, and we see more of the rich girls' problems explained. My same issue with slice-of-life (the girls clothes shopping? Did the story need that?) but this is a linear progression from book 1. Same statement of stats (you like this or you don't) but it's not a critical failure, even subjectively.
Most importantly, I'm interested enough to see where this goes, so that's the most reliable indicator you'll get from me. If you liked the first one you'll like this too.
I wanted this to be better. I really like Brandon’s books but the first half of this book was hard for me to get through. One thing that I love about LITRPG books is the immersion and this book didn’t have it. I understand that the characters can’t always be in game but when you see their life outside the game it should normally be something major not eating food.
I Love anime and for many of the same reasons I really enjoy this author and and I can say truthfully almost all of his work ESPECIALLY this one if you like the drawn out character building that makes u luv a character like Deku, ASH, the BleAch characters THis is the AUTHOR YOU NEED TO SUPPORT I’m currently waiting for two of his series next installment and this makes the the third!!!
Good second book. Was interesting to the point I managed to read it two days.
While there are still some elements from Shura's Wrath in this book, it's not a complete copy and it's okay.
The plot is moving along at a good speed. Liked the MC and how he develops his bond with his new teammates. Of Adam's main girls, the one I liked the most is Liltith.
The story is very fun to read as the author worked to develop both the game world and the real world as the story progresses. The pacing is very good and the action scenes are fun to read. I enjoyed the new characters that are introduced in this book. Overall I enjoyed it immensely.
I can not rate an individual volume any higher than 4 stars unless it is the final volume and only if I rate the series as a whole that being said I can only give this a 3.9 rating due to the typos it contains which so far is the rating I have found myself giving all of Brandon Varnell works that I read to date
This book was good but the characters are a little stunted in their interaction with each other. It made it a little hard to connect with the characters. Also, the virtual world characters were not as forthcoming with needed info they directly effected them as I would expect but otherwise a food read.
This is a really rich and incredible story with a depth of lore and world building that is staggering in its scope! The characters are fantastic and reading how they navigate their complex society and bother the real and digital world is a thrill!
The only complaint I have for this book is that it’s not nearly long enough. That very well might just be me needing the next book to come out already but hey. Keep up the good work, eagerly awaiting 003!
I felt that the character development was really well done in this book. The party and nd meet up in the game and start to get things rolling. I am excited for the next book to come out.
The problem is this is a light novel written like a litrpg. That does not work. The constant data and stats compared to the action is unbalanced and confusing. The story arc and game progression also clash. This just does not work.
The right blend of story and game stats! It really sucked me into the story that the end snuck up on me. I am definitely reading the next one. Keep up the great work Brandon.
The MC can be a real idiot. He moans that his super chain attack can’t hit worth crap but when he gets a crap ton of free stat point he ignores dex to increase his hit rate. Even just a few points would let him really chain his skills.
I enjoyed book two just as much as the first. A very OP MC with an interesting backstory. I’m looking forward to reading more about all the characters in the next book.
