The Madness of Wonderland #2

Ally and her Mad Hatter

Rate this book
Wonderland is just a story....

Ally spent her whole life being told Wonderland was just a fantasy, nothing more than a story that lived inside her mother's head. All it took was a tumble through a mirror to prove that was a lie. Now she must find her place within this world of madness without losing her sanity in the arms of the Mad Hatter.

Hatter seeks to forget Alice, who shattered his heart by wallowing in a sea of liquor. When he stumbles downstairs in search of more, he finds himself face-to-face with the spitting image of her. But Ally is no Alice, so why does he burn for her with a fire as hot as the sun?

Journey into a world of insanity where you just might lose more than you bargained for. This book contains dark themes and is intended for adult audiences. Please read all trigger warnings before venturing too deep.

This book puts the graphic into the graphic novel. It says it in the forword/warning of the book that there are extremely graphic scenes of violence and sex.

Ally has lived with her mother's madness for most of her life. What happens when she finds out the madness and stories of Alice are real? Now, she is pulled into the looking glass and about to discover the real madness of Wonderland. Who better yo guide her than the Mad Hatter himself? Is Ally ready when darkness meets madness. In the dark fantasy of Wonderland, nothing is off limits.

The book is a bit too graphic for me, and the story seems to be a filler to get yo the next act of violence or sex. I do like that they cover the difference between Ally's previous relationship and the Hatter. This is as dark an imaginary tale as can be.

Welcome to Wonderland. Where everything's backward and nothing's sane. A place ripe with insanity and ever changing

3.5 stars

First, let me say that I enjoyed this book. The sequence of events was fast-paced and doesn't leave you bored.

The idea of this book is amazing. Wonderland is in chaos again and it is up to a new Alice, Ally, to save the day. However, where we are used to a Hero Alice with her Mad Hatter representing the Light, we have here a dark Ally with a dashing Hatter

We also see many of our beloved characters from the book. I especially loved how Caterpillar was portrayed as transgender

and the spice scenes! Oh my lord! 7 detailed chapters out of the 24 this book is full of hot dark sharing of madness.

and the Hatter, lord have mercy, I would gladly descend into madness for this man.

But I wished that the book gave me more. I wished that the story was deeper. It left with many plot holes and confusion, with more questions than answers. and the ending was not all that fulfilling. Maybe if the writer added 3 or 4 more chapters and focused on the events more than the smut, this book would have been one of the best reads.

I like spice in books, but here I was confused. is this a book about smut or a book with smut???

another thing that reduced the stars for this book is Ally. She is not a strong female lead no matter what the book tried to say. supposedly she is the savior but she always ends up being saved. she has no skills, no personality, and no quality other than being beautiful and a Sub.

also, we are left clueless as to why the Knave and Alice left Wonderland, why Alice became mad? so many Whys?

the other thing I found it ridiculous is the immediate lust/submission

you just met the man for god's sake

have some self-respect girl!

but the most thing that really bothered me and kept me saying eww eww eww was how Hatter was so in love with Alice, Ally's mom, to the point that he wanted to possess her, just like he did with Ally. and Ally had absolutely no problem with this! WTF!! i suppose this is the dilemma that happens with some characters being immortal

All in all, I liked the premise of the book

I would recommend it if someone asked for a smutty version of Alice in Wonderland

I was given this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Triggers include...
BDSM, Dub Con, Non Con, CNC

This was everything you want in retelling. Dark, Dirty, Spicy.
The connection between Ally and her Hatter is there from the moment they meet.
Allys character development is definitely worth the read. She grows so much as a person throughout this story. The characters are so great and Wonderland having a dark twist is what I never knew I was missing in a Alice in Wonderland retelling.
I absolutely loved this version and would love to see more in a series.

Sweet.

Baby.

Jesus.

First and foremost, check your triggers on this book. Like seriously. The author puts them at the front. You will need them. ALLY AND HER MAD HATTER is INTENSE. And DARK. Like seriously dark. Darker, I think, than King of Flesh and Bone. So if KoFaB had you clutching your pearls, ALLY will have you turning them into paste.

This book is sexy af. Like let’s just get right to the point, shall we? It’s deep and dark and dirty and will make you question why you’re finding this hot but it’s FURKING HOT and you may need to take a break or twelve in the middle to, you know, tend to your needs. Like, I don’t think this book is doing anything particularly hard left of center, but it takes what people do tend to like and pushes them to the extreme. So, like, pleasure in pain? YEAH. It’s going to go a bit down the path with that one. Choking? Dangling from the cliff. There’s some double action and, shall we say, REALLY deep throating.

Like I said, there isn’t anything in here that’s super niche kinky, but it turns some fairly common kinks up to 37.

The story itself is a fun one. Ally is the daughter of Alice [in Wonderland fame] and gets pulled through the looking glass because Wonderland needs a new Alice. Except Ally isn’t really the sweet thing her mother and prior Alices were. She’s something darker, and when she meets Hatter, their darkness feeds off of each other.

Thing is, it ends pretty sweetly. For how dark the book gets, it is absolutely a HEA and I thought the end was a nice way to round out the book and bring it back to something that is wholly settling and squishy and gives someone lovely feels in all the right places.

ALLY AND HER MAD HATTER is one of those books I wish I could read again for the first time. I couldn’t put it down, especially when a chapter ended in the middle of something super spicy. Yeah, DEFINITELY not putting it down there. But I, uh, will be referring back to it pretty often, thankyouverymuch. The only complaint I really have about it is it could do with a copyedit or a run through ProWritingAid or Grammerly, but I was reading an ARC, so take that for what you will. Obviously it did not detract from my reading because I absolutely swallowed this book whole (heh).

If you’re looking for some super dark, sexy fun, this is it.

If you watched the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland and wished there was more between Alice and the Hatter, this might be for you.

This book was SPICY. Dark and delicious, pushing the limits spicy. I mean…the man has an autonomous shadow self.
I also loved that the Mad Hatter was written in a way where his madness felt like part of his character growth and the plot rather than the sort of chaotic and confusing insanity we sometimes see with these retellings.
I loved the descriptions of clothing in this book. I enjoyed seeing all of the familiar characters and themes, and I loved that the author showed the world without dwelling too long and making it boring.
The pace was FAST. Readers who like a slow burn of more in depth romance/world might not enjoy this, but it was perfect for me.
I also loved the bit of angst at the end.
There were small errors in the text and a slight lack of polish that I expect from this sort of book but kept it from getting a higher star rating. Also, I felt like there could have been more slightly spicy or romantic moments between the pair before things really took off as it felt like all or nothing. Also would have loved to see a fight or other angsty scene between them to sort of give depth to their romantic plot. I felt like Ally lost a bit of her spunk after they got together.

Ally and her Mad Hatter by S.N. Hunt is a dark tale of two broken souls coming together to fight against the demise of Wonderland. There is a bit of madness for all to enjoy in this intoxicating and fantastical retelling....

"Welcome to Wonderland. Where everything's backward and nothing's sane. A place ripe with insanity and ever-changing." - Hatter; Grand Marshal of Wonderland

Ally is the daughter of Alice and the Knave. She knows nothing of Wonderland except for the stories her mother once told her. She has a strained relationship with both her parents and upon their passing she inherits her childhood home. As she is packing things away she discovers a muddled mirror hidden in a locked room and tumbles into Wonderland. With the realization that her mother's stories were real, she discovers a group of curious looking comrades and a devastating smog snuffing out wonderland's inhabitants and destroying it's vital spark.

Ally and the Hatter decide to search for answers as to why she's arrived and seek out the Great Mother; traveling through treacherous landscapes to visit the Heart of Wonderland. They have an immediate connection. The Hatter incites Ally's lust and tempts her with forbidden pleasure. As much as the Hatter wants her to be his plaything he also has a desire to shield and protect her. Inevitably their attraction leads to kinky shenanigans while on the long journey to the Heart. As madness recognizes its own kind, they quickly find themselves lost in each other's insatiable darkness and at the center of a struggle to not only liberate Wonderland but also their own insanity.

"... All this time, we searched for a light to match our dark, but we were wrong. We should have looked into the shadows. Should have craved a darkness to complement our own." - spoken by the darkness and madness of the Hatter

"... the madness loomed ever closer. Deep in the darkness, it grinned greedily. 'Let go, Ally. Join me in insanity's embrace.'" - the Hatter

The fantasyland created by S.N. Hunt is as mysteriously ominous as it is inviting. The author does a great job of providing descriptive and vivid details of Wonderland as well as the characters, which created for a more enchanting reading experience. This is a romantic adventure you can get lost in and I devoured each turning page!

But be warned! This is a dark retelling and the Hatter is not your typical "hero" - he is a murderous, lonely man with plaguing demons and lost memories who at one time believed he was in love with Ally's mother... if you are brave enough, I encourage you to fall into the delectable ruin of Ally and her Mad Hatter!!

Content warning (provided within the ebook): This book is intended for mature audiences and contains dark themes. Triggers include but not limited to, graphic sex scenes, graphic fight scenes, murder, torture, BDSM, blood, gore, insanity, talk of/attempted self harm, abuse, degradation, mayhem and more....

Ally-and-Her-Mad-Hatter-by-S-N-Hunt

Wonderland needs an Alice or it’ll die.

When Ally fell through the looking glass, she tried to explain to everyone that she was not Alice. Alice is her mother, and she died months ago, along with her father. They left the house for her, and she was cleaning it up when the Cheshire Cat led her to the mirror. They took her to meet the Mad Hatter, and he quickly figured out that she was not the same Alice he once loved. But the Great Mother brought Ally to them for a reason.

Maybe Wonderland needs an Ally this time?

Ally-and-Her-Mad-Hatter-by-S-N-Hunt-3

This book comes with a warning. It has BDSM, gory details, some MFM, monsters, abuse, and so much more. It’s a dark fairytale retelling, with the Mad Hatter being a dominating alpha and Ally being a match for his insanity. I’m having mixed feelings about it even though I knew what I signed up for. Here's the trigger warning from S.N. Hunt:

"Triggers: graphic sex scenes, graphic fight scenes, murder, torture, BDSM, blood, gore, insanity, talk of/attempted self harm, abuse, degradation, mayhem and more…."

Ally-and-Her-Mad-Hatter-by-S-N-Hunt-4

I picked this book because, come on, the Mad Hatter falling in love with Alice was something I fantasized about. But this one particular retelling? It took the Mad in Mad Hatter to a different level. Hatter fell in love with Ally, and it’s not like she was the light to his darkness. Nope. Her darkness almost eclipsed his own. They were the perfect match.

Ally-and-Her-Mad-Hatter-by-S-N-Hunt-2

The way Hatter kept fighting his darkness was something I liked about this book. His story was a sad one, but having Ally made up for all he lost. Also, Ally’s story was sad and at some point, it felt like she was allowing madness to make her forget the grief. It’s what Alice in Wonderland is all about. Fascinating, but also terrifying.

Ally-and-Her-Mad-Hatter-by-S-N-Hunt-1

There are more steamy scenes and gore than plot. But the few plots that were there made me keep reading. It was written in a captivating way, but also twisted and dark to show exactly what madness is.

Hoo-boy, was this ever a rollercoaster. One page it was fun Wonderland things like spider plants that are actual spiders and next page it's a super spicy BDSM scene. Ally, daughter of Alice and the Knave, makes her way to Wonderland after her parents' deaths and runs into the typical bunch of Wonderland characters...well mostly. The Mad Hatter has voices in his head telling him to do bad, bad things to Ally. Which Ally is very much into.

While Ally's relationship with Hatter is one of the main plots of the books, the world building and reasoning behind Wonderland was actually pretty interesting. Especially since you don't really need an explanation, Wonderland is just Wonderland. However, it definitely added to the story overall.

"Ally and her Mad Hatter" is pretty good spicy Alice in Wonderland reimaging. Some times it's a little ridiculous and over the top, but in the best sort of ways. This reminded me of "Tin" by Candance Robinson, they definitely have spicy classic retelling vibes going.

This was an absolutely wonderful retelling of wonderland with a great dark twist.

Wonderland will always have an alice! In this story you actually follow Ally, who is not an Alice but you find out early in the story how she is connected to the last Alice.

Once you get around 40% in to the book the slow burn of wanting to see the characters to get to spicy smexy moments appears. it is VERY spicy. I would highly recommend if you have triggers to check the warnings before moving forward with this story.

This hatter will easily become a book bf for you.

You get to have moments with characters through out the book getting to see either a glipse of classic characters or watch the authors take on their personalities blossom. With that I really enjoyed how the author shown the different character's "maddness" through out the book, and how it has more of a physical form with in the characters.

the spicy smexy moments were super spicy leaving you to maybe want to read this alone. It was very easy to visual the journey through this book as those spicy moments.

This was a darker retelling of Alice in Wonderland. It struck me as odd and twisted from the start, but I expected that.

There is profanity and a lot of sex, so this is definitely intended for adult audiences, and I don't think it would be everyone's cup of tea.

It's an interesting take on Alice in Wonderland, and it certainly is spicy, if that's what you're in the mood for. I would say it was important to approach this with an open mind, as by the time I'd finished reading, I had stopped associating it with the original story. This story is about Ally, not Lewis Carroll's Alice.

Thank you to Booksirens and the author for a free copy to review.

Heat level: 5/5. I signed up for this ARC through BookSirens and I'm glad I did. This is the first book I've read by this author and I'll be looking out for more of their work. This was an interesting retelling of a popular story. I won't go into detail because of spoilers, but the attraction between Ally and the Mad Hatter is instantaneous. It features bdsm, dom/sub, wants her tears, and a bit of blood play. Warning: a bad previous relationship is mentioned a handful of times throughout the book. If dark romance isn't your cup of tea, pick another book.

What a unique take!

Just a warning, it is dark, especially the thoughts and actions of the main characters. I love it though! I want more books about them and I love the unique take of Alice in Wonderland. I love that Ally is dark and unlike her mother, and I so did not expect the "villain" in the story. A highly recommended read!

This is a retelling of Alice from a fun and unique perspective. Very spicy!! SO make sure you like spice!! The book is faced paced and easy to read. I love how characters from the original story are brought back to life, Caterpillar is transgendered, Knave, Etc. They leave a few thing out which maybe in the second book. So not all questions are answered by the end of the book.

I enjoyed this read. Interesting twist on Alice and Wonderland retelling. Fast burn, hot sexy scenes, especially the one with the dp with the shadow. I'm envisioning a similar scene, maybe in a Peter pan retelling. Anyways, I would have liked to see them overcome a few more obstacles on their adventure to their destination and for Ally to not necessarily be this fearless bada**, but a little stronger and more helpful. Otherwise, overall, it was a good book. I'm not sure if there will be a sequel because it sounds like it will but was open-ended, but if so, I'd be up for reading it, especially to see if Hatter gets his littleHatter babies. Also, a prequel about Alice and Knave before and during Ally. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is a twisted/ spicy retelling of Alice and wonderland. I enjoyed this alot.
It's a different twist on the Alice and hatter story.
S.N.Hunt did a great job in telling this story.
I would read another story of Ally and hatter if she comes out with one.

The Good
I revel in that which is shameless and part of how shameless "Ally" is lies in its prose style. "Ally" hits the sweet spot for me of being dramatic, and even melodramatic in places, without drifting into becoming silly.
One thing that I appreciate about "Ally" is that it doesn't belabor its point. Hunt doesn't pretend like we have never heard of Alice in Wonderland before, and does not linger to try to explain herself. Instead Hunt's additions serve to enhance the aspects of Alice in Wonderland that take it from story to fairytale. The fact that there are multiple Alices, and the fact that "Alicehood" seems to be detrimental to the ones that return to reality, makes me think that "Alicehood" can be linked back to the idea of generational trauma. Whether the allegory was intentional or not, it gave the story a more emotional edge than I would have expected.

The Bad
One thing I did not like almost circles around into another compliment. I feel like the story leaves a lot of concepts on the table by focusing so strongly on the relationship between Ally and The Hatter. As a result, a lot of the characters feel underdeveloped outside of those two.
This might be more a fault of the "Alice In Wonderland" setting than the story, but I always quirk a brow when people use "the madness" as a sort of catch-all for behavior that deviates. To regard what look like intrusive thoughts as "the madness" feels regressive. Again, this might just be more related to the setting, since the original Alice in Wonderland never really specified a root cause for Wonderland's unreal quirks beyond childlike wonder.
While I enjoyed the fanfiction-ish aspects of the prose style, it comes with its weaknesses. The prose and character development relies on cliché in a few places that serve to weaken scenes that were otherwise flowing well. My favorite was the traditional "Their tongues battled for dominance." It took an otherwise perfectly serviceable sex scene to something a little silly.

The Nasty
My favorite sex scene in the entire work was probably the threesome between Ally, The Hatter, and the Hatter's shadow. I could try to make a grander point about Ally's literal embracing of the Hatter's madness being a nice moment, how it opened the story up a little more, established his madness as a friend, and provided some welcome variety to the sex scenes. Or I could remind the reader that "Shadow Demon Hot" has been burned into my mind for a while.
One thing I found sort of disappointing about the sex scenes is that a certain dynamic about Ally and the Hatter's relationship seems to drop at a certain point. During the lead-up to their first sex scene, the Hatter's need to dominate and Ally's desire to be subjugated are strongly established. There's a very intense scene where the Hatter makes Ally lick her own arousal off a wooden surface. After that point, I feel like the domination/submission facet of the relationship drops off, or at least becomes less important. I would have liked to see more of it because I think Hunt writes the dynamic well.
The book is full of sex scenes, which means that it rarely gets boring. However, past a certain point (I think maybe the shadow demon scene), I feel like the descriptions became sort of mechanical. That isn't necessarily a problem with the work as much as a by-product of having so many sex scenes. At the same time, the fact that I was willing to scroll past the sex scenes and experience the rest of the story speaks to how engaged I was with Hunt's interpretation of the story.

Conclusion
Despite the fact that it might look like I whined a lot during this review, I found myself having to scrape around to find things to critique. If I needed to search for problems, that means the book was engaging and likable to me. I think there is a lot of room for this story to grow. While "Ally" is listed as a standalone, I would be open to seeing a sequel.
If you were a Hot Topic kid in the 2010's and have a soft spot for the "Alice in Wonderland" story, consider this a recommendation. The book is shameless in how edgy it gets, but endearing and engaging along with the shamelessness.

I claimed this book on BookSprout for free to read and leave a review. Unfortunately, I only read the review copy details, and didn't see the author's note where she warns that the book contains graphic sex scenes, graphic fight scenes, murder, torture, BDSM, blood, gore, insanity, talk of/attempted self harm, abuse, degradation, mayhem and more. Had I seen that, I likely wouldn't have claimed it. In reading that content, I felt very uncomfortable, so I'm going to ignore that aspect in my review and leave that to others who might be better versed in that type of literature.

Ignoring the darker aspects of the book, I found the story quite intriguing. I've always had a fondness for Alice in Wonderland and looked forward to reading a sequel. The original was written over 150 years ago. Much of society has changed since then and I found it interesting to think of how Wonderland might have changed in that time. There were of course glimpses of some of our beloved characters, but the main storyline centered around the Mad Hatter, who apparently was named Marcus, and Alice's daughter Ally. Theirs is a unique love story. While I struggled with the physical nature of their relationship (it delves into the aforementioned graphic content) I tried to see it as depicted - a consensual one between adults that was mutually beneficial.

I found the author's portrayal of madness quite interesting. It sometimes manifests in a physical form, and thus another character. Mental illness is discussed more often these days, but I don't think we ever think of it as being separate from the individual. If I'm not mistaken, treatment is often about integrating aspects of one's personality/behaviour/identity into the whole; its not about cleaving it off or being separate from it. There was a line in the book which I liked that suggested perhaps those who are "mad" are the only ones who see the truth.

In addition to the love story, there's also something of a quest to get to the heart of Wonderland where we learn of its inception and some of the history of this realm before Alice. There's quite a bit going on in this book including a brief reference to one of our beloved characters being trans. (You might be able to guess who.)

The author offers a link to a bonus chapter at the end of the book, available through her website. At the time of this review I have not read it.

If you ever read Alice’s Adventures in wonderland and though Lewis Carroll had to be insane, S. N. Hunt has done a fantastical job of reimagining Alice in Wonderland and playing on that madness.

The book comes with a trigger warning touching on several issues. Heed this warning as there is a lot to be triggered by if you are dealing with those issues. Otherwise it’s full steam ahead.

Because Alice in Wonderland already reads like an chaotic opium induced high, there is a lot of material for the author to play with, and she does.

Using familiar characters, Hunt explores a wonderland where Alice has married The Knave and left Wonderland, leaving a grieving Hatter to go mad. Wonderland is dying and an Alice is needed in order to save it. The rabbit brings Ally through the portal only to discover that she’s the wrong Alice. Or is she?

The author shows us how Wonderland was created and delves into mental instability, gender identity, BDSM, and acceptance, along with some torture and shadow play. There’s a little something for everyone

The scene I could have done without was that of the Carpenter but even that scene serves a purpose.

What felt lacking was more background on Alice and Knave. What was their story once they left Wonderland, why was she trying to go back, and had she actually been back before, why was Knave trying to convince Alice that Wonderland didn’t exist since that’s where they met. The entire piece about the couple outside of wonderland left me with more questions than it answered.

Another issue was Ally and Hatter’s Dom/sub relationship. The author started off strong in depicting the desire for and the having of this relationship, but then it fizzles out. Not that the sex scenes fizzle by any stretch. Instead the D/s became perfunctory.

Despite that, Ally and her Mad Hatter is a steamy, good time. Go in with an open mind and you’ll enjoy it.

It's impossible to say no to a Wonderland retelling. I have an entire bookcase honoring Wonderland, its original story and the retellings I've come across. Wonderland will always feel a little bit like home. A world where everything is possible. A world where up is down and down is up. A world where you can meet the most colorful people. And everyone is a little bit mad. So, when I saw this book on BookSirens I had to request a review copy!

I loved this version of Wonderland! Wonderland is a unique place and so much fun for each and every writer, because you can let your imagination go wild. This author found the perfect balance between darkness and light, between beauty and danger, between intriguing and downright scary. Even at its maddest this Wonderland was still filled with surprises, weird creatures, possible ways to die and a road that could last a day or a month or a year.

I also really loved Ally and her Hatter. Mostly because the author did a great job making them the perfect fit for each other, without having them only exist because the other exists. Hatter had his share of misery in life, Ally had hers and together they could embrace each other's light and most of all each other's darkness. It made their relationship mostly physical, but since we got both their point of views it was clear that there were a lot of emotions involved.

I think emotions were the soul of this book in general. Ally had her emotions, Hatter had his, at some point those emotions and darkness even became their own entity (which is an amazing idea if you ask me), but it turned out that also the issues plaguing Wonderland were tied to emotions and madness and minds of their own. I don't want to give too much away, but I really loved the plot and where it eventually lead us!

2.5 stars to be exact.

Just as a note - I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Look, I take all things Alice's Adventures in Wonderland seriously as its one of my favorite stories. I love the original story, but also have come to love all the different variations on this-some more sci-fi, some dark and mysterious, etc. So I was thrilled reading the premise of this novel. I love a good dark romance and wanted to see the different take this author would take on the characters.

The reason for my rating is quite frankly the story. There was a lot of smutty romance -nothing wrong with that, I love me some good dark romance stories - but it overshadowed what could have been an awesome take on Wonderland. The story felt so rushed. If some more of the story was focused on and a little less smut, this could have been a 5 star read for me. The scene with the rose? Yes, more of that. Great scene. Also, a lot of characters were so briefly mentioned, but what did they add to the story (looking at you, Tweedledum, Tweedledee, etc). I wanted to know more about Alice's mom and the Knave, I wanted to know more of Hatter's interactions with some of the other characters. I also wanted more into Ally's background. We're given some glimpses at her past in the real world and what that did to her character. I feel there could have been a lot more done with her character in terms of development, like the author did with Hatter. She was a bit of a disappointing female lead character for me. Overall, the book could have either been longer to address some of the questions/more storyline or a little less smutty scenes.

Let me just start by saying I LOVE a good Alice in Wonderland retelling. Finding good ones with spice is a life goal for me. S.N. Hunt wrote a fantastic story that checked all my boxes. Dark, spicy, with a good mashup of the original version and a twisted version. It had me fascinated from start to finish. Wonderland is ominous and mysteriously captivating all at once, it felt like falling through the looking glass into a world of madness. There were a few small things that were never fully answered but for me they did not take away from the plot.

Mad Hatter: Hatter, is not your typical “hero”, you might even call him your “anti-hero” or a “villain” at times. That madness can make a man do some bad things; Hatter is no saint in this story. I loved the unique spin this story gave to his character. The shadow stuff was giving me minor Peter Pan vibes, but darker and more twisted.

Ally: The daughter of Alice and the Knave. I liked her character. There is a lot I’d love to say but to keep this non spoiler like, I will just say I loved that she didn’t fight the chaos and obscurity of Wonderland. These tend to be my favorite FMC’s, those that don’t spend 50+% of the book fighting their fate. Madness recognizes madness after all.

This ended with a nice little HEA. I enjoyed the romantic adventure of exploring this taste of Wonderland that S.N. Hunt offered me. I recommend this to anyone looking for a DARK spicy Alice in Wonderland retelling.

***Check the trigger warning in the book, the story covers things that may disturb some people.***

This book was great. A dark and twisted Alice in wonderland retelling, in the most interesting way. Can't share much without giving spoilers but Allys parents die and she has to clean out the house. Allys mom was committed years earlier for thinking wonderland was real (there is more to it than that but i can't say too much lol), ally finds a cat trapped inside a clock and follows it into wonderland unknowingly. And that's where she really starts (this is a couple chapters in). It was easy to fall into and that is an amazing thing for a book. I love Alice in wonderland and all the retelling I'm reading.

I did find a couple spelling errors but in the grand scheme of the entire book, there isn't too many to be bad.

I don't know what could have been done to have it be 5 stars but I think there was something missing, and I never say this because I'm always on the hill of add spice wherever you can, never too much, but this one, the spice seemed oddly placed and I'm not sure exactly why. I loved the scenes do not get me wrong, shadow hands? Yes please. The scenes I can't really say anything about for spoilers but the first time was a 'wtf uhh 😳 something big just went down and you're doing that? OK. Go you' type of thought.

All in all I did enjoy it and when I have the ability I'll probably buy a physical copy if possible. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I feel conflicted over how I truly feel about this book. It felt too long and too short at the same time.

What I did love:
- The take on Wonderland created by the author was unique and intriguing. It felt like a new place, but somewhere familiar and I really enjoyed that.
- The White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat, and Door Mouse were really wonderful and lovable characters who helped welcome us into this world. I don't think we got to spend enough time with them.
- The explanation of the clothing in this story! I felt like I could really see it and even feel it in some cases.
- This book was HOT! So spicy - 10/10 recommend.
- The Madness

What I didn't love:
- The instalove from Ally. I didn't mind that Hatter fell so quickly but Ally confused me.
- Just Ally as a person. She didn't seem confident and strong, but the book kept telling me she was. I just didn't see it.
- The conflicting pronouns used in the case of the Caterpillar/Rue. It threw me off a lot and I would have preferred just a simple question by one of the characters asking what pronouns they prefer.

I had a good time reading this book and I'm definitely interested in more smutty retellings of some of my favorite stories. If you're looking for a new take on Alice in Wonderland, check this out - AFTER checking the triggers of course. This is a dark romance.

💥Triggering situations-definitely check content warnings before reading💥

This is a retelling of Alice in Wonderland with a darker and more twisted environment. The story focuses mainly on Ally and The Mad Hatter. There are the usual side character introductions, each a new twisted version of the originals. Wonderland is still just as magical but it’s been corrupted over time and has changed into something dark and dangerous.

~Ally and Mad Hatter are an explosive combination. Her presence attracts the attention of The Mad Hatter. Her sweetness and innocence draws him in like a moth to a flame, while his darkened demeanor and alpha-like energy drags her in too.

~Hatter is still a drinker and still just as crazy, but we actually get more insight into what, or even who, made him that way. He’s a fiery, delicious mess of a man who makes wonderland a much more interesting place.

~Their stories have background and depth, the descriptive imagery of the world and all it’s inhabitants is top notch. It is heavy and there are a lot of situations that could be triggering, but it’s also not the darkest retelling I’ve read. It definitely had a nice substantial plot to it that I felt stood out to me more than anything else. It was an enjoyable read.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Lindsay’s Review:

“She belongs to me. Every inch of her, every moan, every sob, and every fucking tear. It all exists for me, and the madness”

Do you like murder, mystery, madness, and of course SPICE? Then this book is for you! I really enjoyed the twist on the modern fairytale we all grew up with, and truth be told, I was always a Mad Hatter fan.

Ally is the daughter of Alice (yes, that Alice) and she’s currently cleaning out her family home to sell. While in the process Ally hears something unusual and ends up in Wonderland. She meets all of the characters from the fairytale, but they all have a little twist.

When she meets the Hatter she’s instantly curious about him and oogles at his rather handsome physique. As she’s there she learns of something happening in Wonderland and teams up with some characters to one help and two get back home.

As she travels with the Hatter she becomes more enthralled by him and well you know ;) That happens, in the most delicious and disturbing ways.

The only thing I didn’t enjoy about the book is that the beginning was a little hard to get into. Though there were some important details there so pay attention. If it drags a bit for you too, stick with it, I promise it gets WAY better!

I will say there is some blood, gore, torture, abuse, BDSM, etc. If any of that is a trigger for you, read with caution. Check out the full list of triggers on S.N. Hunts website.

Hmmmm where does one start when they are left speechless….

If you think this is going to be a gentle stroll into wonderland following the white rabbit you're in for a big surprise. This is more than a retelling this is like when you get a tear in your shirt and you think oh I can fix that and maybe make it look better, then once finished you realise the threads of the old shirt are there but the rest is unrecognizable.

Gone is the childhood fantasy of cute characters and a slightly mad hatter and in their place is a psychotic carpenter and a darkness inside that makes the hatter worry about his sanity. Ally not Alice recognises this darkness as it calls to the same darkness inside her and when answered DEAR LORD.

The author does such a great job in spinning this story right on top of its head. They push the boundaries of reality and fantasy to the sweet edge of pleasure. This story explores the way our minds during traumatic experiences protects itself sometimes to the detriment of oneself.

Side note I really lived the way this author paid homage to the origina Alic in wonderland's author

I received this as an ARC for my honest review

So first things first. I DNF'd this book.

But not because it wasn't a good book or was written poorly. The premise of the book is interesting. The characters are interesting. And the author's take on Wonderland is a truly mad one (and interesting if you didn't get where I was going).

But this book was not for me and after trying to make my way through it, I just finally had to stop and chalk it up to a DNF.

This has no bearing on the author or their ability to write as the author is extremely talented and I'm sure there are many people who would love this book, especially if you're into BDSM and dark themes, one of which I am not (the BDSM for those wondering).

I gave it 3 stars despite not finishing it because I do think the author is a wonderful storyteller and this book would appeal to others. Just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean others wouldn't enjoy it.

I did get this book through Booksprout originally and though I did withdraw my promise to review as I didn't think I'd be able to properly review it, I did want other readers to know that it wasn't because it was a bad book.

Ally and Her Mad Hatter is a super intense, extremely dark, adult take on Alice in Wonderland that will have you looking at all those fairytale characters in a completely different light.

Wow, this was BEYOND spicy! Definitely review all the trigger warnings before reading this one.

S.N. Hunt did a great job with all the details and characters, bringing the reader into Wonderland and changing everything you know about the classic story - very fun. There were a few typos that wouldn't be caught by a spelling check but not enough to take away from the story.
I was a little confused with some of the story near the end with the Great Mother and the use of insanity, however, I don't think many would be reading this one for all the fine details of the actual storyline. It just is the vehicle to provide enough information to tie this one up by the end. I'm actually a little surprised that this is a stand-alone and not the beginning of a series!

For my friends that love the extra-spicy reads, this is one to pick up - but again - check the trigger warnings before starting.

I haven't read any erotic novels in a while and it wasn't until I read the long list of trigger warnings that I realized how dark and erotic this book could be. It didn't faze me though, I really enjoyed it. Who knew erotica, dark fantasy and the insanity of the Mad Hatter would make for a great story. Alice in Wonderland is a childhood favourite of mine and was ultimately what first lead me to choose this book. I loved the spin and twists the author put on the classic story. Two things I will say. I had to Google using the word drug instead of dragged. I have never heard it used before and was surprised to find it is common in the USA. I wish the ending was longer or we got an epilogue with insights to what happened to the characters after the story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to others. The list of trigger warnings is quite long so please do make sure to check it before proceeding.
