I am going to boldly assume that if you are reading a Review of the 3rd and final entry in what is a serialized show, that you at least somewhat liked the previous two entries, I will therefore not be avoiding spoilers here, and will be reviewing Among us 1-3 as a whole aswell as its base contents... spoilers will be pointed out before they occur!

How I Conquered The World is 1 hour of villain expository monologue. If you like or hate that may vary, but its not debatable imho that It was earned. The penny dropped in the Mid Series Finale, and now youre getting the answers. The thruline voice youve been hearing has been watching us, they know where and what we are, this audio is what theyve done, and what they will do next.

Doomscroll is a weirdly campy torchwood story that takes a silly boomer joke of your phone will kill you literally. however it DOES bring up a valid point about doomscrolling and deepfakes both of which are "quite bad™" The most grating bit is probabbly that they focus on Lifestyle Influencers as an analog for all content creators...but tyler gets surprising depth here. A must do

Heistland is Torchwood V Crypto...but not really. im pulling the rug out cus its rather disapointing if you truly expect crypto to be the focus. this is more of a lore/character piece with shades of deepfakes, espionage and the intangibility of CEOs. Cryptos part of it sure. but it isnt the focus. this is a Heist Story thru and thru

The Apocalypse Starts at 6pm is a utterly confusing on purpose Story following a Bob Ross esque talkshow host...exceot obviously some of it is for show. There isnt a clear goal from the main cast until the end but once it fits together it fits together well. worth sticking out the wildly and intentionally odd plotline.

SPOILER TIME

Torchwood Among Us is both about Torchwood being among us as it is about Us among us.

It perfectly explains in ways ive struggled to, where our tech revolution became a tech dystopia, how algorithims and being globally aware is a double edged sword and how we all just STRANGELY LOVE being Angry...and angry happy!

With only two real character piece stories this series seeks to focus on good? ideas and their poor executions (in real life) rather than the cast themselves...but its never flat or static... just not DEEP FOCUS yknow?

Friend represents The Social Media Algorithim, it gives a symbolic big bad a face to hate, because lets be honest torchwood cant defeat the nature of people and all of silicon valley. But in the same way sorta lessens the impact of the recurring theme this is our fault. people are to blame...not aliens. this threat is terrestial and it WILL destroy us.

Thematically brilliant, and while it is a bit odd they decided to have Friend survive, so long as they dont become the focus and take away from The Comittee (an ongoing threat not actually defeated in either previous series) I can see value in acknowledging the Threat isnt over. It might never be.

Among Us 1-3 could be the finale of Torchwood's TSC range. not specifically the range as a whole but the ongoing arcs. I don't personally think it will be, nor should it be, but i feel like if they didnt WANT to deal with the commitee in TSC they wouldnt have to. the monthly...or main range rather covers torchwood fine enough.

The concluding segment of the imagined seventh season continues with the theme of modern internet culture as the team finally gets together to fight the threat linking the previous episodes.

Oh, and don’t forget to like and subscribe…

How I Conquered the World – The identity of the Big Bad for the season is finally revealed, although we’ve known what it was in general terms for a while now. In fact, this episode consists almost entirely of an hour-long monologue by the villain explaining its life story and motivations. This is accompanied by statements from people it has interacted with, including the members of Torchwood, and there is a section at the end that continues where the previous collection left off… but mainly, it’s a monologue. And a very good one it is, too, delivered in an unusual style that relates to what the entity is and how it sees the world. It’s original, interesting, definitely adult in places, and ties together not only the earlier episodes, but also how our real world has changed since the TV show was on the air in the ‘00s. 5 stars.

Doomscroll – Torchwood investigate the mysterious deaths of influencers… and it isn’t just the manner of their death that’s the mystery. It would be easy enough to portray the influencers as shallow and superficial, but instead the two that we see are rather more sympathetic than that, as much victims of their ecosystem as exploiters of it. The tension builds, especially in the second half as Torchwood grapples with whether and how far to exploit the people they are trying to protect. It’s also a parable about how attached we are to our mobile phones and the constant need to stay up to date. There are emotional, violent, and, yes, sexual scenes as the doomscrolling becomes all too literal. 4 stars.

Heistland – Following on with the theme of modern internet culture, this time Torchwood goes up against a cryptocurrency company. This is, however, more of a background element than anything else, although the mysterious nature of the currency’s creator is reminiscent of the origins of Bitcoin. Instead, what we’re getting here is, as the episode title indicates, a heist story with the Torchwood team trying to break into the company’s headquarters to steal the necessary access codes. It’s further complicated by a rival organisation using very different methods to achieve the same ends, and a tight deadline keeps things moving. 4 stars.

The Apocalypse Starts at 6 p.m. – Oddly, considering that this is the ‘season finale’, Torchwood are only secondary characters in this episode. Instead, it’s told from the perspective of the host of a TV program that’s not unlike The One Show. The various Torchwood agents pop up throughout her day as she fends off claims that the Apocalypse will begin when her evening broadcast does, and conspiracy theories run wild across Britain, spawning demonstrations and violence. It lacks much of the punch of the earlier episodes, and the series’ stars only rarely interact with one another. Yes, it all ties together, and there’s a resolution to the main threat, but it’s an odd way to go out – something that would have worked better mid-season, perhaps. 3.5 stars.

Had me absolutely hooked from start to finish. The cast of this series is now almost entirely changed compared to series 1 and yet it still feels just right. Ng, Orr, Colchester and Tyler have really cemented themselves as our new favourite team of misfits, with Yvonne as their sometime boss, sometime tormentor. Let's get into it.

7.09 How I Conquered The World

5/5 (6/5!)

Immediately you'll notice something very strange. The entire episode is narrated by Friend, the sentient social media network. We follow this childlike entity as it learns, grows, blackmails, gets into cryptocurrency and tries to optimise humanity. This episode knows exactly what it's doing and Mia Hope is brilliant in it. Creepy, funny and compelling episode.

7.10 Doomscroll 5/5

The team are all in this one but they're split up, focussing on different parts of their master plan. Lots of really enjoyable Tyler development. Colchester and his tie. Social media is evil and killing influencers? Bit obvious but very funny and hugely enjoyable. Some emotional bits too.

7.11 Heistland 4/5

Similar pace to the previous one but the team are trying to take down a cryptocurrency. Not sure why Rhys is operating from Iceland without Gwen (from a casting point of view) but it really works and Kai Owen is great as always. This episode ended really abruptly and I'm not quite sure what happened.

7.12 The Apocalypse Starts at 6PM 5/5

As with Beachscapes, this one focuses heavily on TV presenter Janet as she finds her show hijacked by Friend, in the guise of a miracle child, and Torchwood, who are spreading conspiracy theories and inciting civil disobedience and more to sabotage Friend. A really brilliant ending with a little room for another series if needed. Janet Ellis is a gem.

Did we miss Jack in this series? Yes of course. But from a narrative perspective there was nothing lacking. The four year wait for this series was so worth it. The episodes are timely, witty and packed with detail. Every character shines. More creative than most TV and definitely some of the best Big Finish work I've heard. Now I think we're all anticipating the next series!

Really loved the last set and am intrigued by the big bad details we’ve gotten so was excited going into this set and I loved it! I hope we get more of The Story Continues with this team.

Episode 9: Big Bad finally revealed and we get the whole team together again. Enjoyed this one!

Episode 10: Damn. This one seems like it’s going to be morbid but funny but it’s intense and sad. It’s a good one though. And once again we get the whole team!

Episode 11: Yvonne! A heist episode! Was looking forward to this episode the most.
Oooh, surprise team up! This one was great!

Episode 12: The whole team plus Janet! Such a good conclusion to the series!

Torchwood: Among Us 3 was so good! All the plot threads finally came together. That said, I think writing an entire episode around Janet, especially the finale, was a huge waste of time. Episode 12 was the least impressive finale this range has ever done. But props for trying something different. I just don’t think it was fit to serve as a finale. 4.5/5

They do really well here, knowing we want Jack. But, given the events of the most recent Doctor Who season, it does make narrative sense (which, I think they leaned into with the time-line and where we are year wise with these releases.

They need to bring in Norton for the next season. And convince Gwen to come back.
