This was a great preparation book for my 4 year old's first swimming lessons. He's always very tentative about new things and has never felt good about the water, so we approached the swimming class with trepidation on all parts. This book narrates all the things you might experience in a swimming lesson, from kicking and paddling to getting your face wet. Like you'd expect from DK books, there's a lot of new vocabulary listed so there's a picture word glossary at the very end.
Probably my favorite thing about this book is that it's a father/son combo taking the swimming lesson, and I still find it hard to find a lot of good books featuring fathers doing everyday activities. This worked out really well for us, since my son was taking the lesson with his dad. Very recommended for any budding swimmers.
This is a beginning reader book about a little boy who is learning how to swim. The book shows him progressing through his swim lessons, and it is a good book to read to younger children who may be hesitant about taking lessons. The only issue I have with it is that it shows him using water wings, which can be dangerous.
In this story George learns how to swim with help from his Dad. He first begins by using water wings in the water. He learns how to kick, move his arms, blow bubbles, and gain confidence in the water. At the end of the story, George announces, "I can swim!". This story would be a great read for children who are learning how to swim.
This is a great summer book. The kids related to this book so it kept their interest. They learned a few new vocabulary terms as well.
George watches his friends having a great time swimming. For a few weeks, his dad takes him to the pool and teaches him the skills to become a good swimmer.
