Ok, this surprised me, pleasantly. Around 9% of the way in, this was looking like it was going to be a DNF regret purchase, but by the end, I was irked that the next volume wasn’t out yet.
I’m curious as to how her bodyguard fits in with everything and I assume he’s her slow burn romance, but need to meet Rust to see if he’s a contender or not.
Not that I don’t like the Crown Prince, but I think the younger one is a better fit for the position. But that’s just my opinion, take it for what it’s worth.
3.5 stars, rounded up to 4, as it started weak, but the story picked up and ended well.

Taken (too?) seriously, this is an exploration of what life would really be like inside the world of a BL series that isn't also an omegaverse. It raises some good points about what happens when fantasy abruptly becomes reality, and it's pretty light-handed to boot. Taken at surface level, it's yet another isekai set in a European-inspired fantasy kingdom, although Octavia isn't the villainess...yet. (Someone's trying to change that, I think.) Basically, it's probably better to take this one on the (too) serious side, because it's frankly more interesting that way.
a fujoshi transmigrates into a bl universe and is like wow, this sucks for women actually! i was getting a bit of a mocking vibe off the early chapters i didn't dig but as the story went on it got better -- there's clearly some actual plot reasons behind the set-up of this universe that aren't just an excuse to be like 'lol girls and their yaoi'. i have questions about octavia's older brother too 👀
Love this series it was nice to see the first 2 volumes of the manga actually go past the event in this light novel, so that was very interesting to see.
One thing that was interesting is that we didn't get to see in manga is that octavia tries to get someone to act as her fake boyfriend, that would of be interesting, but other all all storyline were interesting .
I highly recommend reading light novels as miss a lot of things out .
A fun read so far. The first book has done a good job of setting up the story, and it leaves you asking just enough questions to create anticipation for the rest of the series without being annoying. The humor is spot on, and the main character is relatable in a refreshing way. I'm looking forward to the next one already!
Any fujoshi would love to be whisked off into the BL world of their dreams - but what if you're supposed to be living in this world, not just watch from the sidelines? Maki used to be a BL connoisseur in her past life, a staunch supporter of her now-elder brother and crown prince's strong loveline - and she still is, but it's kind of hard to completely root for them when their royal line is something that can only continued by her, Princess Octavia, having a child! How can she get a kid when she doesn't even have a boyfriend yet? Is there any way she can somehow stall for time?
This volume is building up the lore and worldbuilding for a fake dating relationship, but from volume 1 alone you'd find yourself thinking "do we really need to find a fake boyfriend?"...Because surprise surprise, Octavia's mysterious bodyguard might seem like he fits the bill. But for a volume that builds up so much it actually resolves so little - keeping you wondering, what's gonna happen next? So perfectly fine as a series starter, definitely not for someone who thought this was a standalone and hoped to walk away from it with some strings tied up (read: me)
So this book is from 2017 and reads like it, thats not a bad thing just reads like a product of the time period. I kinda like that, giving high school nostalgia and like the fanfics i used to write. The use of Mother (man) in the book feels slightly regressive for a BL book… i know it was japan in 2017 but is partner that hard to translate into english. This is a light-hearted comedy book with a touch of romance and political intrigue. It has set up really interesting ground work for the rest of the series. The BL world that the main character loved so much in her first life actually doesnt treat women well at all. I really like this perspective. While the world is made to not be offensive, it by accident turns very misogynistic. This is the crux of the issue in the world as well as what the main character blatantly ignored in her previous life in order to enjoy the HEA.
Great story. Octavia is a princess in a boylove world. All men around her fall for and marry each other, but she doesn’t mind. It was her favourite trope before she died and found herself here. But then she accidentally declares to her brother, Prince Sirius, that she has a boyfriend and now she has to find one. Easier said than done.
Unlike the usual fluffy stories like these, there’s quite a lot going on. There are repeated assassination attempts against Prince Sirius’s boyfriend and everything points at Octavia. Her new bodyguard is an intriguing and/or suspicious—and a potential romantic interest. Too bad she died before she had read all the books so that she would know the truth about him.
The first book was mostly setting up the scene. We didn’t even get to the part where Octavia tries to get someone to act as her fake boyfriend. But all storylines were interesting, and the illustrations were excellent. I’m looking forward to reading more.
I received a free copy from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
A pleasant story with a lot of rich characters and intrigue
I was surprised that the first 2 volumes of the manga actually go past the events in this light novel. Usually a light novel has enough content to get 3 or 4 volumes written adapted to comic. The manga cuts out a lot of details and slims down the setting quite a bit, coding to favor the BL comedy aspects. I think this voice makes each version a pleasing experience giving merit to reading both formats.
I do confess though, I picked up the light novel for more content after the terrible cliffhanger of manga vl 2. Goes I'll have to read the next one for that ┐('~`;)┌ lol
Really pleasantly surprised by this one. At first, as others have shared, there was a heavy focus on the BL setting of the world, but it was described to an extent that made it seem mocking at times and it didn't feel that great.
But after sticking with it, the story definitely improved and not toward the direction I expected, implied from the fun and colorful cover.
I'm also happy there wasn't much repetition on some things (this is coming from me reading other FMC based light novels and having to read through the same scene from different POVs).
I am definitely curious to see where the story goes and how the romance is handled in the following volumes.
wow I flew through this (admittedly it's not very long, but still!) Really like where this is going; the plot is pretty serious, MC and her bodyguard had amazing chemistry, but there's all sorts of misunderstandings because MC knows this is a BL world and people just think she's kind of weird (I laughed a lot).
PS. If Alec turns out to be a villain, I'll still stand him.
Got an ARC through Edelweiss in exchange for a review. This is a fun light novel taking the ramifications of BL media and making one of its fans live in the world. Our main character isn't a schemer and just tries to help out by pointing out things naturally which ends upmaking her looking like she wants to take the throne. The main deal is Octavia can't play the prefect sister because she wants her own love but can't because all the pretty boys aren't interested. And she wont be the convenient plot devices of bearing an heir for her brother, Sirius & his male lover Sil to continue the male line. We get clues to the world through other POV and how Octavia's actions and the way she uses her meta knowledge makes her look like she is a plotter when really she just wants to be able to live happily ever after with out being a plot device.
