Beautiful and independently wealthy, her towering social position assured, Margaret Anthony could have bought a yacht or a palace with the stroke of her pen. But to her free-spirited business partner Chip Thorn, she was little more than a spoiled brat.
Ironically, they're forced to pretend an engagement in public, while in private they're still worlds apart. hi the rugged and often dangerous world of Chip's logging camp, Margaret slowly yields to his way of life... and the ecstasy she's dreamed of since he first evoked her greater wealth of passion with his soul-spinning kisses.
Poor little rich girl is set free by the death of her controlling father and immediately moves to Montana to pursue her dream man, a rugged cowboy who only has contempt for spoiled citified brats. Meh.
I never checked the copyright on this while I was reading it, but nabbed it at the library because I've found Dorothy Garlock to be an enjoyable and dynamic author. I'm surprised to see a 2009 copyright on it. I'm not sure what happened here, because the entire time I was reading it I kept getting the feeling it was an earlier work that had the same tenor as the cheap Harlequins that are practically short stories. You know, the ones authors have published at the very beginning of their careers?
It just seemed to be a very disjointed story, and I found the plot incredibly implausible. It could be a good book, but it needs to be a little longer and could use a massive rewrite.
Pull quotes/notes "Chip had made love to her as gently as her own passion would allow, but her body, unaccustomed to a man's rough hands and rock-hard intrusion, was rebelling now." (103) that's a new one [euphemism]
"'There're clean sleeping bags and blankets piled in the chair on the porch,' Dolly said. 'The ones up at the camp might be a little raunchy by now,' she added with a note of derision in her voice." (139) raunchy?
"'Well, what do you know?" he mused aloud. 'I've got a horny little sexpot on my hands.'" (158) the tonal shift here is...something
Margaret is wealthy and is part owner of a logging company in the pacific northwest. Chip runs the company and is relucant to share power. Love is slow to develop but I was happy to read. This is classic fish out of water character attracted to the opposite!
