She is the winner of the Katherine Mansfield Short Story Award and has been a finalist for the Romance Writers of America Rita Award more than once.
Daphne Clair de Jong decided to be a writer when she was eight years old and won her first literary prize for a school essay. Her first short story was published when she was sixteen and she's been writing and publishing ever since. Nowadays she earns her living from writing, something her well-meaning teachers and guidance counsellors warned her she would never achieve in New Zealand. Her short stories have appeared in many magazines and anthologies, and a collection of them was presented in Crossing the Bar, published by David Ling, where they garnered wide praise.
In 1976, Daphne's first full-length romantic novel was published by Mills & Boon as Return to Love. Since then she has produced a steady output of romance set in New Zealand, occasionally Australia or on imaginary Pacific islands. As Laurey Bright she also writes for Silhouette Books. Her romances often appear on American stores' romance best-seller lists and she has been a Rita contest finalist, as well as winning and being placed in several other romance writing contests. Her other writing includes non-fiction, poetry and long historical fiction, She also is an active defender of the ideology of Feminists for Life, and she has written articles about it.
Since then she has won other literary prizes both in her native New Zealand and other countries. These include the prestigious Katherine Mansfield Short Story Award, with Dying Light, a story about Alzheimer's Disease, which was filmed by Robyn Murphy Productions and shown at film festivals in several countries. (Starring Sara McLeod, Sam's wife in Lord of the Rings).
Daphne is often asked to tutor courses in creative writing, and with Robyn Donald she teachs romance writing weekend courses in her home in the "winterless north" of in New Zealand. Daphne lives with her Netherlands-born husband in a farmlet, grazing livestock, growing their own fruit and vegetables and making their large home available to other writers as a centre for writers' workshops and retreats. Their five children, one of them an orphan from Hong Kong, have left home but drift back at irregular intervals. She enjoys cooking special meals but her cake-making is limited to three never-fail recipes. Her children maintain they have no memory of her baking for them except on birthdays, when she would produce, on request, cakes shaped into trains, clowns, fairytale houses and, once, even a windmill, in deference to their Dutch heritage from their father.
Daphne frequently makes and breaks resolutions to indulge in some hearty outdoor activity, and loves to sniff strong black coffee but never drinks it. After a day at her desk she will happily watch re-runs of favourite TV shows. Usually she goes to bed early with a book which may be anything from a paperback romance or suspense novel to history, sociology or literary theory.

I was taken unawares that the events in this book occur concurrently with the author's The Timber Baron's Virgin Bride (published last year.) The hero in this is the Timber Baron's Virgin Bride's overbearing, judgemental brother who doesnt even show up in the earlier novel. He sees the heroine, who is a cool, blonde businesswoman, and is instantly intrigued and infuriated.
The middle part of the novel where the H/H fall in love, as seen from both their POV is nicely written.
However, as in the Timber Baron bk, the latter part of the book is affected by the heroine in Timber Baron and the really ghastly stupid mistake she made. I really hated visiting that subplot again. It turned what had been a B- read into a C grade.

Lots of clashing between the main characters. Really funny and so much misunderstanding - on his side. The ending was a bit of a let down and left a few ends not tied up - I like to read about a wedding after the main characters get engaged, especially if it is at the end of the story and the book is number 2 of 2. One other thing..............I live in the Waikato (as mentioned in the story) and the person(s) who proof read it should have checked the places..............Bombay Hills, Ngaruawahia then Huntly then Hamilton????.............no it is Bombay Hills, HUNTLY then Ngaruawahia then Hamilton. Apart from that it was great to read about places I know personally.

It was ok, but I like Daphne Clair's older books better. This is a very fast read and written at a simplistic reading level.

He instantly jumped to suspect her of having designs on his sister's new husband. The pirate thinks it's his job to protect little sis and pushes and shoves and makes trouble for our heroine.
Finally the two admit to extreme attraction and fall in love and little sis admits that pirate brother completely over reacted.
I would have liked this better if the romance were more developed and if he had the decency to apologize profusely and often for his nasty accusations. No idea why she fell for him!
Reread and didn’t remember any of it. Rather slow and romance is more strong physical attraction, HFN.

Yikes! This one wasn't one of my favorites from the Presents line. At the beginning it was too hard to tell if Samantha was really after Bryn or what was going on between them.
Then there was Jase? Can you say overprotective much?
I can understand wanting what's best for your baby sister, but he really was a bit over the top in trying to dissuade Samantha from having an affair or continuing with an affair with her husband.
I'm so confused!
The worst of it is, no one in the story really communicated with each other, they just thought the worst, which makes it hard to believe that anyone could fall in love with the other, or why they'd want to.

dopo aver abbandonato in primi tre romanzi (mai più harmony maxi!) ero già convinta di potermi disfare di Come sposare un milionario, questo tomo di più di 600 pagine... e invece no. l'ultima storia (Il piano del milionario, il cui titolo tradotto non ha alcun senso, ovviamente) mi ha sorpresa e mi ha fatto venire voglia di conservarlo per rileggerlo. la dinamica psicologica è eccellente e lui è un personaggio estremamente piacevole. proverò a cercarlo singolo. il voto del romanzo in questione è un 4 stelle pieno.

I'm only giving this 2 stars because I enjoyed the first 100 or so pages. The rest of it made me angry. It could have been a good book if the author hadn't dumped unnecessary drama in it, I could have got passed the drama too if the hero hadn't acted terrible and actually explain any of his actions at any point. In fact the drama is never fully resolved until the epilogue which takes place months later AFTER the characters are engaged. Generally I hated the hero and hated the inconstancy of the heroine.

wow I just re-read this whole book by mistake and I still don't remember reading it the first time. 2 stars for the first time, this time I think I will give it 3. I am going to put it on my forget it already shelf, since I obviously did.

Quite good for harlequin standart. But nothing strong to make it impressionable. One thing I love most is Jase's home. It's so modern but not too much so it's soulles. Amd the open-roof, that's definitely one thing I'll built in my dream home :D
