Absolutely brilliant

I've always loved birmingham's social histories. I was a little hesitant to read his novel but I had to try. And I am so glad I did. From the first page he drew me in with eloquence and intrigue. I highly recommend this novel.

The writing was good, but I'm just so tired of Rich New York Dynasty books, I couldn't get into it. I might return to it later after a few palate-cleansers. Or maybe not. This one didn't grab me and I couldn't finish it.

Although I found the style good, I wasn't interested enough in the plot or characters to keep reading. This one wasn't for me. I think I'm a bit tired of rich New Yorkers as subject matter. I'll shelve this one and maybe return to it later.
