Lee Wilkinson was born in Nottingham, the only child of loving parents. She was educated at an all-girls' school, and after leaving, tried her hand at several jobs, including modeling swimwear.
At 22 she met and married her husband, Denis. They had a traditional white wedding and a honeymoon in Italy, and have been happily married ever since. They have two children, a son and a daughter—both now grown up and married—and four lovely grandchildren.
Lee's writing career began with short stories and serials for magazines and newspapers before going on to novels. She has had more than 20 Mills and Boon romance novels published to date.
Amongst her hobbies are reading, gardening, walking, and cooking. Traveling is her main love, and teaming up with her daughter and American son-in-law, she and her husband spent a year going round the world, taking in India, China, Australia, New Zealand, and the States.
Last year she rented a palazzo in the heart of Venice, followed by a quick hop aboard the Orient Express. Lee is currently saving up for a whirlwind tour of Japan, a romantic and exotic destination she has wanted to visit since childhood.
At present she lives with her husband in a 300-year-old stone cottage in a picturesque Derbyshire village, which gets cut off by snow most winters
First time it didn’t work for me, skimmed. Second time I read it but the H’s turnaround wasn’t set up well. One minute he’s saying no way, forget it and th3 next it’s ILY and HEA. Thus 2 stars
The book is actually better than the blurb makes it sound. The heroine and her fiancée have a big misunderstanding, so she dumps him and leaves to take up her career in the world of fashion. Several years later she's engaged to someone new, but must hurry back to England to help her brother who is in the hospital. She runs into her old fiancée who acts like a jerk, but mostly because he's trying to get her to admit why she really ran out on him all the years ago. There are parts of the hero/heroine's relationship I despise... mostly when she acts like a doormat, but the secondary characters are well done and the 'misunderstanding' is a bit more believable than most. There is something slightly unsatisfying about the end of book and I think it's old fiancée's forgiving attitude - but overall worth the read.
Once i start a LW book I cannot seem to put it down. However this book has an inaccurate title to begin with as it says mistress by marriage..well their marriage doesnt occur in the duration of the story..ok. But I generally liked the heroine and the hero...David is the sweetest hero ive read and i liked the level of angst in the book.
Rather than confronting MMC with cheating allegations FMC she tells him her career is more important and runs away and when they do meet again 3 years later she persists in letting him think that, even though at that point he already knew what she believed when she left him 3 years before (because her brother told him finally).
Honestly she was quite pathetic, she was engaged to another man that she completely changed herself for (weight, fashion, expectations of children), he was a terrible guy and she let everything bad he did slid and excused it. Whereas with MMC she constantly thought the worst of him and jumped to conclusions at all times. Np.
