The New Revised Standard Version Study Apocrypha is designed to complement the NRSV Cambridge Annotated Study Bible, published in February 1994. Both are edited by the internationally respected biblical scholar, Dr Howard Clark Kee. The New Revised Standard Version is the most accurate and up-to-date translation of the Bible available, and has been growing more and more popular since it was first published in 1990. In the NRSV Study Apocrypha, the NRSV text is combined with an extensive introduction to each book, cross-references, textual notes, a full glossary and the annotations of Dr Kee on every page. This Study Apocrypha will prove indispensable to all who want to get the most from their Bible.
Books can be attributed to "Anonymous" for several reasons:
* They are officially published under that name * They are traditional stories not attributed to a specific author * They are religious texts not generally attributed to a specific author
Books whose authorship is merely uncertain should be attributed to Unknown.
OOF. Obviously this was bound to be a slog at some points, but getting past that (as one must do with all scripture) I had a lot of fun Yes that’s right FUN I walked away with a better understanding of Jewish tradition at points that my Protestant upbringing overlooks, especially “post-biblically” I LOVE the book of Judith which has what is essentially a superhero gear-up montage but instead she is slutting it up to go save her people, who cheer her on as she goes It’s an amazing moment
I hate Wisdom Literature! Try to say something I don’t know! Also lay off your kids!
These observations don’t have any bearing on this book in particular I gave it a four instead of a five because I wish more effort was made in the notes not to summarize but to give more historical-cultural background.
