Mordecai Siegal authored numerous pet books and wrote pet columns for House Beautiful, Good Housekeeping, Women's World, and goodnewsforpets.com. Often the master of ceremonies at pet events, Mordecai was an entertaining public speaker as well as a writer.

Mr. Siegal had a caller-interview radio show, Vets and Pets, on WNYC.

He was a founding member of the Cat Writers' Association and president emeritus of the Dog Writers' Association of America (DWAA).

I spent hours poring over this and the Guide to Dogs when I was little, picking out the kinds of cats I wanted when I got older:)

Best guide on cats I've ever had. Simple concise breed descriptions, great illustrations and includes keys indicating each breed characteristics as a pet. Vocal, needs grooming, good mouser, longevity etc. Also has a beginning section going into the roles of cats throughout human history, from Egyptian, the bubonic plague, and the Salem Witch Trials. Very interesting.

Currently reading it and it's so entertaining! It's very informational and I love how the writer describes them. Saw it on Powell's Books the other day and I thought I'd give it a go. So worth it. Much more informative and enteratining than the more modern one like the Cat Encyclopedia in my opinion.

Got this in a cozy little store on a trip to Cassadega.

I have always wanted a cat, and hope to soon adopt one. But since I've never had one, I want to learn more about this magnificent animal.
This book covers most of the basics, care and history of the cat, plus a detailed description on a bunch of both longhaired and shorthaired breeds, and a glossary at the end.
The book is good, though a little dated. Probably nice to have in schools!
