FROM AUTHOR'S WEBSITE: I'm a native of central Maine, and grew up on a small farm with a wonderful mom and dad, three sisters and a brother. Most of my books take place in small towns, many of them in Maine.

My husband, Jim, and I moved to his birth state, Oregon, for a while after we were married, but decided to move back to Maine and be near my family. It allowed our six children to grow up feeling close to their cousins and grandparents, and some of Jim's family have even moved to Maine!

Our children are all home-schooled. When Jim retired from his vocation as an editor at a daily newspaper, we moved from Maine to Kentucky.

I've always loved reading, history, and horses. These things come together in several of my historical books.
Another longtime hobby of mine is genealogy, which has led me down many fascinating paths. I'm proud to be a DAR member! Some of Jim's and my quirkier ancestors have inspired fictional characters.

For many years I worked for the Central Maine Morning Sentinel as a freelancer. This experience was a great help in developing fictional characters and writing realistic scenes. I also published nonfiction articles in several magazines and had several short stories appear in Woman's World, Grit, and Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine.

Full of Mystery & Suspense!

These three books were so good and so much fun to read! There was so much mystery in each one, and the mysteries were so different. Along with mystery, there were unexpected twists and turns. I absolutely loved reading these and hope these characters continue in other stories. So Very Good!!!

I read my customary 100 pages and decided it was too boring and predictable.

A fun cozy mystery series written by a mother/daughter duo

Follow Emily and Nate on their adventures at Blue Heron Lake... murder, hidden treasure and imposters on the island.

Emily returns to her childhood home on a beautiful island in Maine. She plans to do some updates at her family's cottage on the island, and put it up for sale. Emily is surprised to see Nate, her high school crush, still working at the Marina that his parents owned. When Emily and Nate reconnect their friendship, they realize they still have the same strong feelings for each other. When they want nothing more than to pursue a relationship and possible future together, they seem to keep finding dead bodies on the island. How can there be a murderer on such a quiet, peaceful island? Emily and Nate are determined to find the truth, and discover the secrets from the past that someone seems desperate to keep hidden.

This a three book series, and each book has a fun mystery to solve that will keep you guessing until the end. Watching Emily and Nate's relationship develop throughout the series is also a great addition to the story. Emily followed her dream of journalism right out of high school, while Nate put his dream of law enforcement on hold to run the family business. Now that they are in the middle of murder investigations, Emily encouges Nate to get involved with local law enforcement and pursue his dream. They both use their skills to help solve the crimes taking place on the island.

Having all three stories in one book made life easier so I wouldn't have to remember the characters while looking for a copy of the other stories.

Some people, like Emily Grant and Nate Holman, are drawn to action and mystery. Because the main characters found themselves involved in several mysteries, there was plenty of action. "Why couldn't Emily keep out of trouble? But then she wouldn't be Emily" (p. 433). People imagine isolated islands to be peaceful and uneventful, but sometimes quiet locales hold the same mysteries found in big cities.

This series is a fun read for mystery fans. I'd put it on my keep shelf, but I can't wait to share it with a friend.

Good mysteries

Interesting setting, likeable characters (that is the non-criminal ones) and the right amount of intrigue. I especially appreciate the characters' faith in in God expressed in everyday life.
