The taverns of colonial New England were gathering places for Revolutionary Patriots, nerve centers for spreading vital news and sanctuaries for outlawed organizations. Perhaps inevitably, certain pubs bore witness to ghastly deeds and sorrowful tragedies. Some of them became tinged with the aura of the supernatural. Through firsthand interviews with dozens of pub owners and employees, author Roxie J. Zwicker has discovered tales of hauntings in which bartenders have their drinks mysteriously upended, waitresses find dining room objects scattered about bizarrely and other staff and patrons catch sudden glimpses of ghostly figures. Read Haunted Pubs of New England to uncover the spine-tingling lore lurking within New England's oldest taverns.
This is another short little book in the Haunted America series I have been reading. This one is free to read with the Kindle Unlimited subscription. It took be basically no time to read it, as it was only 139 pages. These little short books are certainly going to help me reach my raised reading goal this year with no effort. I enjoyed the little stories about several different haunted locations in New England. I would love to visit some of these places!
Was nice to read about some of the pubs in New England where there are 'hauntings', would be fun to check one out sometime. I would have preferred a greater part of each story focused on the ghostly encounters rather than the history of the building or the beers they currently serve. Maybe some more pictures to visualize the rooms, paintings etc.
Interesting stuff. It’s more like a quick reference book, although I doubt that the taverns mentioned are the only ones that are haunted in New England. It was a good mix of history and paranormal tales. I would have liked a more geographically spread recount of New England, like there’s nothing western mass, but I recommend it nonetheless- nice and short.
A list of Haunted Pubs in the New England area. Awaiting for those curious people who want to experience those ghostly haunts in the night. A good read, one could make a road trip.
This book is pretty amateur. It isn't well thought out, researched, or written. Some of the historical tidbits were interesting, but each description of a tavern is only a couple pages long. There aren't many pictures of what she is describing and most of the ghost stories were seriously lame. Molly Malone's Tavern in New Hampshire was my favorite to read about and the only one that sparked my interest to visit.
