The Turkeybird (My son's opinion, age 3) Takes Over: "Let me just take the reigns while Littlebug goes off to chew on some other book. I'm not sure exactly why my parents thought that these books would be more appropriate for Littlebug(my daughter, age 1), but they were wrong. She received them this Christmas and no sooner had she received them did she toss them to the side for a more flashy glowing singing worm thing. In my opinion, she's made a grievous mistake. These books will soon become classics, as anyone with any taste will obviously see upon their first reading.
"Now, I'm not going to say that Littlebug doesn't have any good taste (she must, she likes my "That's Not My Truck" book), it just so happens that in this particular case she has fallen a bit short. In fact, I think she may have fallen asleep.
"But that's besides the point! These books have everything! From skateboarding to playing with dad to going to school and even cleaning up my room (which believe it or not, I like to do). Just incredible books with wonderful fun friends I'm sure you'll enjoy. Pea, Hoot and Oink are some of the best characters in modern literature and you would be just silly not to pick these up!"
Mom's Two Cents: "When the Turkeybird speaks, he speaks. I won't argue one bit. We judged a book by it's cover so to say and by so doing gave the wrong book to the wrong child. That's not to say that Littlebug won't enjoy these in a year or so from now, because I'm pretty sure she will, she just doesn't today.
"He's right though, these are great books! For me as well as for the kids. I honestly LOVE reading these aloud to The Turkeybird. They're so fun and entertaining, but also have a twist of teaching to them. Each book focuses on a different point of a child's life of learning, be it sleeping, what to eat or cleaning up. Each one is taught in such a way that it makes each task seem like the enjoyable part of the day and not the chore to be completed. The illustrations are simple and beautiful. And overall wonderful books, great for the whole family. (I think I'd even read them without children.)"
I am so unbelievably excited that these books are now in board book format. I read Little Pea, Little Hoot and Little Oink to my daughter in picture book format but I'm always afraid her little hands will get too excited and rip the pages. Now I can let her turn the pages as we read 3 of her favorite books.
Little Pea is about a little pea who hates eating his candy for dinner. His parent's tell him there are no vegetables for dessert until he eats all of his candy. "If you want to grow up to be a big, strong pea, you have to eat your candy." Papa Pea tells him. "Eat five pieces and you can have dessert." Little Pea whines "Five pieces?" After eating all five Little Pea can't wait to see what is for dessert. "Spinach! My favorite!" He squeals.
Little Hoot is about a little owl who wants to go to bed to sleep at night just like all of his other friends. His parents make him stay up late to play. After numerous activites including playing swords, building a fort and jumping on the bed he pleads to his mother "Can I stop playing now?" To which his mother replies "Ten more minutes of playing mister. And please don't ask me again!"
Little Oink is about a little pig who wants to keep his room clean and hates Mess Up Time. "If you want to grow up to be a respectable pig, you must learn how to make a proper mess." Little Oinks Father tells him. "Mess up your room, put on some dirty clothes and then you can go out and play." Says his mother. "Do I have to?" Little Pig asks. "Yes you have to," they retort.
Not only are the stories great but the artwork is adorable as well. I strongly recommend to check these out. They would make a great Christmas or Birthday present for a little one.
These little books are so clever and the illustrations are darling. Little Pea is my favorite, Little Oink is my husband's favorite, and my daughter hasn't decided yet. They are books that I don't mind reading over and over again--which is good because I have a feeling that I'll be doing just that during the next couple of years.
Seriously, the cutest, most charming board books EVER. Featuring the little pea who is sick of eating sweets, the little owl whose greatest desire is to go to bed early, and the fastidious little pig whose parents have to force him to mess up his room.
Super cute. Little Pea makes the least sense but “little pea” sounds so much like the taiwanese family nickname for little kids in our family that I love it still. Little Oink and Little Hoot are adorable.
