Published over 20 years ago, "Great Stories from the Prairies" provided a comprehensive sampling of some of the work written by well-known authors from this Canadian region. Twenty-five writers were featured and although, I loved some stories more than others, I appreciated the variety and range of stories presented. Several of the tales were quite humorous. Editor Birk Sproxton also did an excellent job at presenting the material in a logical manner (like playing dominoes) with one story leading nicely into the next story. The biographical material at the end of each story tempts the reader to seek additional work by that author. I'd also be curious to see what writers would be featured in a similar anthology published in more current times.

I truly loved this book as it reminded me of home (I live in the US but grew up in the praires). It reminded me of the simplicity life can be as I felt growing up but yet hardships along the way but certainly not like they are today.

I can tell that these stories are well-written... It's just not really my cup of tea. I only read the whole thing for a class.

As with any short story collection, there were some stories I loved, so that were ok and some that I didn't enjoy.
