Let us face it, compared to the western world, African literature is still in many ways a non-starter. The truth is that it is only when our writers are published overseas that there is any real possibility of the book being a real success; things are much worse when the book in question is a literary study or monograph on an African writer; very few people are interested - perhaps a handful of scholars or academics, and virtually nobody in the mainstream! Hence a book like this one is very much welcome - focusing on one of the iconic, legendary poets in African history, Leopold Sedar Senghor. The author is proficient in both English and French and is very much up to the task; giving us the essence of the life and times, the literary work of the great Senghor. This is done in a simple, yet majestic manner that we can all appreciate. Merci Beaucoup...
