Learn To Read Music in 10 Lessons

Rate this book

Reading music is sometimes viewed as a mysterious skill, practiced only by an elite of highly trained musicians. Yet nothing could be further from the truth. Sight-reading -the ability to interpret noted music-is simply a matter of learning the meaning of a small number of symbols.

To get down to the basics, every musical not has three characteristics: pitch, duration, and volume: pitch is shown by the position of the symbol on a series of horizontal lines: the symbol itself tells you how long the note should be played: and dynamic marks tell you how loud to play the note. That's really all there is to it. How hard does that sound?

Of course, as with any new skill, learning to read music takes time and methodical study. And that's where this course comes in. Using 10 easy-to-follow lessons and an accompanying interactive CD, Learn to Read Music will teach you how to decode those mysterious little black dots, and you'll be surprised how quickly it is to achieve results by putting in just a few hours work each week.

Throughout this self-contained audio-visual course, new ideas of increasing complexity are systematically introduced and reinforced with the completion of a series of reading and listening exercises. By the time you complete the course, you will be equipped with enough knowledge to interpret even the most complex pieces of music.

This book is so comprehensive and comes with a CD so that students can listen to the piano chords. It is so easy to understand and has everything that students need to learn how to read music.

It can be used over and over again. I have used it to prepare lessons for my own students. I particularly love the lesson on the key signatures and the dictionary of terms at the end of the book.

I already play piano...I needed it to practice and improve sight reading and it didn't do much for me...maybe it is excellent for beginners.
