Henry Lawson was an Australian writer and poet. Along with his contemporary Banjo Paterson, Lawson is among the best-known Australian poets and fiction writers of the colonial period and is often called Australia's "greatest writer".[1] He was the son of the poet, publisher and feminist Louisa Lawson. Picked this up from book store for $3. Is such a cool book with poems about Australia matched up with landscape paintings. The poems are classic Aussie scenes. My favourite would be the one about the bushfire as it does a great job picturing the scenes and sounds while telling the story. Also liked how the poems use different rhyme schemes
Picked this up for $2 at a charity shop, so i wasn't expecting much. I did enjoy some of the poems, but the main subject matters have never really held my interest (poetry wise) in general. My favourites were 'the ballad of the drover' and 'reedy river'. I did also enjoy the Australian artwork scattered throughout the pages.
Very Man from Snowy River vibes from this short book of Lawson's best poems. These are the poems that made the Australian (male) legend. Not necessarily a fair representation for all genders and races. But enjoyable nonetheless.
