Charleston Pirates #6

Resisting the Rookie

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author Jacob Chance comes a brand-new laugh-out-loud, enemies to lovers sports romance where the heroine reluctantly falls for her brother’s best friend one mistaken text at a time.

Bodhi Shine, my brother’s best friend, is the closest thing I have to an enemy. Tall, with irritatingly good looks, this cocky jerk has been a thorn in my backside for as long as I can remember.

We’re like oil and water—we just don’t mix.

I do my best to avoid him, but now that he’s the new running back for the Charleston Pirates and staying with my twin, that’s damn near impossible.

And when we find ourselves as guests at the same beach house, there’s no way to keep my distance. Forced to spend time together, it’s not long before our mutual attraction wins out over common sense.

Although I remind myself of all the reasons I should resist the rookie… making the wrong choice has never felt so right.

This is a standalone feel good story where the football playing hero falls first and works hard to prove his love. If you like creative wooing, a hero who writes sappy love songs, and mistaken identity texting, this is the book for you.

The last in the Charleston Pirates Series, but it is easily read as a standalone.
The blurb states enough to give an idea of who are featured , a sports romance, with the added 'brother's best friend' concept.
Told in DUAL POV's, it's another well written, great attention to detail, slow burn story that I got fully invested in right from the start. I loved that the previous characters also appear, there is some hilarious banter back and forth, and a little bit of drama along the way, not only that but with the introduction of some new characters, it's a hint as to what Jacob may have planned for future stories!
I won't say any much more so not to spoil it!

I LOVED IT!

Resisting the Rookie is a laugh out loud, feel good romance you won’t want to end.
Bodhi was a lovable character with the cutest determination and an oh so filthy mouth. Vanessa gave him a run for his money though with her quick wit that provided so many funny moments. The back and forth was great, the spice was perfect, and the ending was just as awesome.
I love that these books are interconnected standalones so we got to see our favorite guys (and girls) from the previous books.
It’s such a bittersweet feeling as this is the final book in the series but I think Jacob wrapped it up beautifully. 5 amazing STARS!!

Resisting The Rookie perfectly balances doses of heat, humour and heart in the finale of this series. Bodhi and Vanessa’s story is just dreamy- it’s full of heart-melting moments, laugh-out-loud scenes, interspersed with emotion. I was captivated right from the first page and I couldn’t put this book down until the end!

Bodhi and Vanessa were everything and were the perfect fit for each other. Their story was filled to the brim with the chemistry that I love and the back and forth banter that we can always expect from Jacob Chance. What I loved more than anything was the depth of emotion in the story and how there was more that met the eye in these characters. There was never a dull moment between them and it made their story really fun to read.

I have been in love with this series since the first book and I’m sad to see this end. Easy to read and easy to fall in love with, Resisting The Rookie was the perfect ending to this series.

I love these Carolina Pirates and the women they fall for! Jacob Chance has given us another great story filled with all the good stuff and it’s a fun way to spend your holiday!

Bodhi and Vanessa have known each other their whole lives, with him being her twin brother’s best friend since they were kids. And they hated each other. Well you know what they say about love and hate being two sides of the same coin, read this book, watch these two navigate their relationship, watch them grow, it’s definitely something to see.

I really like how Jacob tells a story, there isn’t too much drama, but there still is a lot of emotion, a ton of laughs and the perfect amount of heat. This is the part of a series of standalones, don’t miss out on the other books in this series, they are so much fun!

Bodhi and Vanessa are just so hot together. The banter between them, I feel, is just a way to tamp down the tension between them. But it just amped it up even more. But it feels so good when they finally give into one another. However, I did not like how Vanessa reacts to the issue, it was like a switch. I get that she has trust issues, but that's no way to react. The drama got resolved pretty quickly though. So it was wrapped up pretty nicely and fast.

💋💋

Excellent book by this author that beautifully continues the series.
Love these players, full of antics and fun but also so serious about their football.
Bodhi and Vanny are made for each other, but both to stubborn or scared to take that last step and let the other one know.
Looking forward to Tysons book .

Playing for keeps!

Bhodi Shine is the newest hire for the Pirates, staying with his best friend Mitch brings him back into contact with Mitch's sister Vanessa. Bhodi and Vanessa have had chemistry for years but have fallen into an enemies relationship. Will their close proximity allow them to find a way to move forward? Will Bhodi's job and mutual friends help them to find the spark that ignites their chemistry to a new level? Jacob gave us a read that was fun and addictive. The characters were meant to be together and the journey from frenemies to soul mates was perfect!

So sad to see this amazing series come to an end but boy did Mr. Chance end things with a bang. The Rookie of the team, Bodhi, needs his teammates in more ways than one. Not only did they give him the confidence to play after his season ending injury last year but they gave him tips to get the girl of his dreams,Vanessa. Trouble is they are like oil and water. They butt heads on Everything and I do mean Everything. They always have since they were kids. You see Bodhi is Vanessa’s brother’s best friend. But will a weekend at the beach with friends change things?

The banter and camaraderie between Bodhi, Vanessa and their friends is fantastic. This was a fun, sassy book with lots of brotherhood, sisterhood and romance. I highly recommend grabbing it up and all the books in the Charleston Pirates series. You won’t regret it.

It was a fantastic way to end a fantastic series with two fantastic characters! What can I say, it was just a fantastic story! I loved Bodhi and Vanessa’s relationship. I loved their banter, their chemistry, their sexual tension, the push and pull until they finally break…it was the perfect enemies to lovers slowburn! I also adored how he called her Vanny, it always made me smile. We also get all our Pirate gang in this book which is a fun way to wrap up a great series! Definitely recommend this book! Another written touchdown for Jacob!

Resisting the Rookie, the 6th book in the Charleston Pirates Series. Vanessa and Bodhi are another great addition to this group of friends, who happen to be hot professional football players. Bodhi is no exception. I love the tension of these two jumping off the page. The love/hate that is combustible. The way Bodhi never gives up, makes him even hotter. Showing Vanessa he isn’t willing to back down and determined in his professional and personal life to find his HEA. Hoping this series continues.

This was a great ending to an awesome series. I loved everything about Bohdi & Vanny. Their chemistry was off the charts & their banter was hilarious. Knox was absolutely hilarious, which wasn't unexpected. I loved seeing some of the past Charleston players & their loves.

This book was a perfect mix of LOL, sweet, sentimental moments. The hilarious, quick wit banter that I've come to expect and enjoy from Jacob did not disappoint.

Oh my beating heart! Bhodi is one of the hottest and sweetest hero’s I have read by Chance!

I wish this story was longer because I was not ready to finish with Vanessa and Bhodi! I loved the way they “connected” and that when they finally gave in there were no games. Just beautiful love and lots of heat!

Inevitable

It was inevitable that once I started reading this book I wouldn't be able to put it down. It was inevitable that I would fall head over heels in love with the characters and their story, and it was inevitable that it would be a five star read. That's just what I've come to expect from a Jacob Chance book and that's exactly what he inevitably delivered.
Bodhi and Vanessa were both solid characters in their own right. Both were very down to earth and relatable. I liked their chemistry from the get go. Their teasing and disdain for each other only helped build tension and once it morphed into passion it was hot as heck!
I always appreciate getting updates on characters from previous books when they show up in the current book. I loved that the whole Pirates Crew made a showing.
Knox will always be one of my favorites and I loved his role in this story. Even though Knox has a huge personality JC masterfully wove him into the plot so that he added to the development of Bodhi and Vanessa's relationship without taking the spotlight off of them.
From beginning to end this was a fun, entertaining read and a great installment in a series I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Loved it!

As always, Jacob has a fantastic ending to another fantastic series! It has all my favorites, brother's best friend, enemies to lovers and lots of steam! Bodhi and Vanny are loaded with sexual tension for a nice slow burn and the banter is littered with humor and sarcasm. Throw in the rest of the Pirates and you've got a great group of friends that you wish you were a part of. Highly recommend!

Sports Romance and More

Resisting the Rookie is definitely a sports romance, but it's also so much more. These two grew up together and became enemies. They are thrown together over a holiday getaway with mutual friends and find the sexual tension is at an all time high.
Vanny has been hurt in love before and Bodhi has always just played the field. Can they overcome their issues in order to make this work? You definitely should check out their sweet story.

Must read!

An amazing reading!

Bodhi and Vanessas’ journey to their HEA are filled with banter, heartfelt moments, and some tearful ones too!

And after Bodhi is trying to win Vanessa back one thought crossed my mind, ‘Are we woman really that complicated?’ 🤣

Can’t wait for Tysons’ story!!!!
Will we see more about Mitch & Erin?

Pirates ending makes me sad but what a way to go out!

The Pirates series is ending and it makes me sad but what a way to go out. Bohdi and Vanessa's story was sassy and sweet. These two together was a love /hate. Frenemy who? I enjoyed all the humor with all their friends too. Although this is the end, I'm looking forward to Tysons book and a whole new series.

A Chance Classic

This was a really good book. And it’s a classic book by this author Guy-Gal and Foe to Lover. He has a formula, but never gets stale because he always adds something really great. This is a strong series and I am anxiously awaiting book 7 what a great way to spend the holiday season.

Jacob Chance does it again

Vanny and Bodhi were inevitable for sure from beginning to end. I love how different that Bodhi and Vanny act to avoid their intense attraction to one another. They both resolve to acting like 2nd graders to hide their attraction and interests. It was nice to see Bodhi admit to it first and out in the open before Vanny could argue for too long. Such a strong male who wasn't afraid to express his feelings to her to try and win her over was refreshing. Finally learning about HEA and having all the other characters just made this a perfect and final book in the series.

Football is America’s favourite sport, and rookie, Bodhi Shine, has just signed on to play for his favourite team, the Charleston Pirates, a team that he has dreamed of being a part of ever since he was a boy. Vanessa, a nurse and long-time acquaintance of Bodhi, being his best friend’s sister, has no time for him, or so she says, until a group game during a Labour Day weekend proves that they both have feelings for one another. And even though Vanessa fights this attraction, Bodhi keeps pushing, and we watch, through very well-written words, how Vanessa gets “sucked in” to admit her feelings for Bodhi.

Some very good one-liners are so finely drawn that they are almost elusive. And Knox has some excellent sarcastic yet comical comments. I was a bit taken aback when I read that some of the Pirates would be playing secondary roles in this book, and I hoped that it would not take away from the telling of Bodhi and Vanessa’s story. But trust the author to give the sub-characters just enough play to not digress from the main plot.

I like how the author differentiates between smut and romance books, and Knox’s comment about learning “a lot from them” bodes for such honesty. Men can learn much about pleasing a woman by following some of the sexual practices of the male characters. The games played by the characters are unique and interesting, and the answers the author gives are cunning and clever, showing us that he has an expressive imagination.

I love snappy banter and funny dialogue, and Jacob Chance goes beyond his ability to satisfy and please me. That sells me on a book and keeps me coming back for more. His word choice and sentence structure help create the characters and display mood and meaning, especially in his love scenes, where the words are not only scorching but also poetic and melodious.

Looks like this author punted and sidelined his way to the end zone to complete his game plan. A touchdown!

Resisting The Rookie (Charleston Pirates #) is a great way to end this series and it’s such a feel good and hilarious enemies to lovers romance.

Bodhi and Vanessa have known each other since they were kids and Bodhi is Mitch’s (Vanessa’s twin brother) best friend. Now that Bodhi has been traded from the Ohio Bulldogs to the Charleston Pirates, he’s going to be seeing a lot more of Vanessa. Although she’s less than thrilled it’s obvious that she’s into him and she wants him bad. These two have been fighting for years and they definitely take it to another level. I loved their sparring, quick witted banter and they truly bring out the worst in each other in a laughable way. Meanwhile, they are secretly wanting to rip each other’s clothes off and get down and dirty. There is a lot of fire and combustible sexual tension between them and when they finally hook up, it is HOT!

I also loved that Bodhi has a sensitive side, he’s very sweet and expressive with his feelings towards Vanessa. And like I said, Vanessa knows that she has feelings for him however, she’s hesitant because she’s been hurt in the past. I’m so glad they took a chance on each other, they were meant to be together and their story is well written, engaging and heartwarming.

The funny banter between the couples and between the guys (especially when they were giving Bodhi relationship advice) was very entertaining. Although I’m going to miss all of the characters from this series, I’ll probably miss Knox the most with his funny antics and his mad cooking and party planning skills. Oh and of course I’ll miss Ace and his beard lol! All of the books in this series can be read as a stand-alone and I highly recommend reading them.

Resisting the Rookie is the sixth book in the Charleston Pirates series by Jacob Chance.

Bodhi and Vanessa have known each other forever but have always butted heads. Bodhi is back in Charleston, his hometown, and is determined to convince Vanessa that he doesn't actually hate her and that they should take a chance.

My favourite book of the Charleston Pirates series. I love the camaraderie of the entire team and their partners. The tension between Bodhi and Vanessa is as tight as a rubber band and it's just a matter of time before it finally snaps. I struggled with Vanessa a little at the end, but everything worked out.

Get ready for... sports (football), brother's best friend, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, he falls first, slow burn, m/f, and dual first-person pov.

Bodhi’s first season as a professional football player didn’t unfold the way he would have liked due to an injury but now that he is playing for the Charleston Pirates and his teammate is his best friend things are looking up. He has been hiding his true feelings for his best friends sister Vanessa behind the banter they have been exchanging but when they find themselves vacationing together it is game on!

Vanessa has a demanding career as a nurse so a relaxing getaway with friends seems like exactly what she needs until she finds out Bodhi will be there as well. He inspires so many feelings in her that range between infuriating to intriguing but denying the sweet and swoony side of him is the biggest challenge of all.

The banter between them is humorous, the chemistry is intense and the other characters we know are there for moral support as Bodhi is ready to finally claim the woman who owns his heart.
