When Joy Munson confronts Detective Tarin Finnegan about reopening her brother’s case, she doesn’t expect to be shot at by an unknown assailant. And when the gunman strikes three more times in less than twenty-four hours, she and Tarin are forced to accept the truth. Her brother hadn’t committed suicide, he’d been murdered.
Tarin’s promise to keep Joy safe isn’t easy to keep. It seems as if the gunman knows their every move. Unwilling to trust anyone but his family, Tarin and Joy go completely off-grid. Uncovering the truth is just as difficult as ignoring their mutual attraction. Will they find justice for Joy’s brother, and a possible future for themselves, before it’s too late?
Seeking Justice is the second in the series of the Finnegan family of nine adult children, all devoting their lives to service as first responders. Tarin, a police detective, is thrown back into a closed case ruled a suicide when the young man's sister, Joy, seeks him out. Some evidence has come out to make Joy ask he reopen her brother's case. When her life is threatened several times in a short amount of time, he believes her and works to keep her safe. This is a suspenseful story and hard to understand why the perp continues to find them as they move from place to place. Wonderful characters, suspenseful story, and great story. I listened to the book via Chirp.
Very sweet book. Poor Joy, out of nowhere, her whole life changed and trying to navigate that wasn't easy but she managed. Tarin didn't want to fall for her but he couldn't help it
Eeeeppp — I do so love a good cold case suspense! And I’m still in a tizzy over discovering this series that features nine (yes NINE) siblings who all work as various types of first responders, hence the series title, Finnegan First Responders. These guys and gals are all about service — both to their God and their community. And in this second book (which could easily be read as a standalone) it’s Detective Tarin Finnegan’s time in the spotlight.
A street confrontation with a woman determined to get justice for her brother ends with bullets flying and Joy seems to be the target. A closed case turns into a cold case as Tarin tries to balance the investigation while keeping Joy safe.
Love the dynamics between this hero and heroine. Joy is spunky and determined and pushes her way into Tarin’s heart despite his attempts to keep her at arm’s length. As in the first book in this series, this is very much an insta-love romance, so if that isn’t your jam, this isn’t the book for you!
There’s a nice balance between investigative work and the romance and, of course, lots of lovely Finnegan family shenanigans to enjoy! I got an extra kick out of cameos from characters from the author’s LIS Callahan Confidential series as well.
I’m so enamoured with the Finnegan First Responders series that I’m leaping right into book three immediately. I’ll be enjoying all the books in audio format and was pleased to discover them on sale on Chirp.
Joy tries to meet Tarin asking him to reopen the case of her brother's suicide which she is convinced was really murder. While speaking with him, someone takes a shot at her. Tarin is now convinced that Joy is right about her brother, but she is in serious danger. Many attempts on her life happen over the next few days. Can Tarin keep her safe and still figure out what is going on? This book is chock full of action with many twists and turns.
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with an action and character oriented storyline that has some brief kisses but no steam. The characters are vibrant and engaging. The Christian ideals are woven into the story well. This is a great series for people who like clean romances with a ton of action and Christian faith. Read these in order and enjoy!
WHAT IT'S ABOUT When Joy Munson confronts Detective Tarin Finnegan about reopening her brother’s case, she never expects to be shot at, and when the gunman strikes three more times in less than twenty-four hours, they realize her brother was murdered, not suicidal. Forced off-grid to survive, Joy and Tarin race to uncover the truth while fighting their growing attraction and the clock, hoping to find justice and a future before the killer finds them first.
MY TAKE Another fast-paced (instalove) suspense. I really enjoy the Finnegan family, and it was fun getting to know Tarin better. As with the first book, the characters are engaging and
The Callahan connection is raised so often, it's bit of a distraction. 4 1/2 stars
If you want a fast read without thinking too hard, this fits the bill. But I was disappointed with the numerous cliches and contrived plot. For example, if the heroine stumbles, you can be sure it will save her from a bullet. And what policeman would bring a victim home with him? They both seem helpless in the face of attraction--which has to be physical lust after only 24 hours. They go out for lunch and sit right next to a huge window, perfect for being seen and shot at. An officer would know better. Then there's the fact that they're being pursued, but no one considers that the bad guys could be tracking their phones until she's been targeted 4 times. The writing is ok. The book is exciting. But I face palmed once too many times.

I really like these Finnegan's. Like the first story in this series, the action ramps up within the first few minutes. Again like the first, it was difficult to put this down from that point on. Another words, you might not want to start this one just before bed; you might be up all night.
These are the first stories I have heard from Laura Scott. I have not encountered such a strong Christian message in a long while if ever. I appreciate all the reminders of God's presence in the midst of everything.
Another Finnegan brother finds the love of his life.
Enjoyed being with this author again. Tarin and Joy story was exciting from start to finish. Tarin and Joy weren't looking for love. It just stuck up on them. Their first meeting was full of excitement and kept intensifying . You felt like you were there in the story. It was neat how Tarin brothers all moved in to help Tarin protect Joy. She definitely needed them all. Looking forward to the rest of the Finnegan family series. Joy fit in well with the Finnegan family.
Joy Munson's belief that her brother hadn't committed suicide years earlier led her to approach Detective Tarin Finnegan who had worked her brother's case five years earlier. When Joy starts getting shot at Tarin decides to unofficially reexamine the case. This leads to Tarin trying to protect her while trying to solve the cold case. Lots of suspense, attempts to murder, arson, and puzzles to solve while trying to not become personally involved.
This is the second installment in this series. There have been multiple attacks on Joy Munson who has her suspicions regarding her brother's death and has asked Detective Tarin Finnegan to reopen her brother's case. I enjoyed seeing some of the Callahans making an appearance throughout the story as well as the camaraderie among the Finnegans. The story was suspenseful, and the characters and plot were great. I'm looking forward to book 3.
I enjoyed this book but it was like reading the first book all over again. I still gave the book five stars because it was still an awesome read. I have grown to love the Finnegan family because they are strong characters. The storyline was solid. I also find it crazy that both brothers propose at the end after only knowing these women for two weeks....seriously!? I would recommend this book anytime!
Storyline pretty much identical to the first book in the series. I could see one brother protecting a woman and falling in love, but seriously…. In what world do you protect a woman, fall in love in a couple short weeks in a life threatening situation, and then propose marriage at the end of those few weeks?!? Of course, there’s also the matter of acting completely unprofessionally in the process. I’m so done with this series!

I enjoyed listening to Seeking Justice. I like the Finnegan family a lot. Tarin is a police detective who five years previous worked a case that was ruled a suicide. The dead man’s sister is convinced it wasn’t suicide. Joy approaches Tarin and then bullets start flying. As Tarin works to protect Joy, they both fall in love. The villains in this story are involved with prescription drug fraud. I like the narrator.
SEEKING JUSTICE is the second book in the Finnegan First Responders Christian romantic suspense series, this time with Tarin Finnegan and Joy Munson as the lead couple. Joy’s brother committed suicide years before, but she doesn’t believe that’s really how he died, and she wants Tarin to reopen the case. As soon as she starts poking around, someone starts trying to kill her. I enjoy this series because the pacing is excellent. There’s a cliffhanger at the end of most chapters and the action stays sharp and exciting. This one had some interesting police procedural stuff with pharmacy cases and prescription drugs and I always enjoy seeing the Finnegan family. 4/5 stars.
Love Scott's latest series of a large family of first responders. Looking forward to meeting the other 7 siblings. The mysteries so far are wrapped in suspense and a frightening story of being chased by a troop of drug prescription dealers. Looking forward to #3 in the Finnegan family journey by Laura Scott.
This book is so good! I love books with characters that are loyal, smart, strong, and part of a family of characters. The suspense and action in this book are great! The romance is clean and I love that faith is so nicely sprinkled throughout the story. This is a very enjoyable book! Now I'm on to the next one in this series.
I listened to the audio book (free on YouTube!) while meal prepping, and it was an enjoyable afternoon read. The plot is VERY similar to #1 however a different sibling. You do not need to read this series in order for it to make sense, however there are some spoilers from the outcome of book 1 in this book.
I listened to this book on audio which was narrated by Alex Knox and LOVED IT!
I love reading about the 9 siblings of the Finnegan family and how devoted they are to Christ and helping those in need. This was Tarin and Joy's story and absolutely loved it! Made me wish I had more than 1 brother. How protective they are of each other is amazing. You will enjoy this book.
Laura is one of my favorite authors. I really enjoyed this series. So I had to go back and get the beginning. This story is well written, action packed and I love the faith woven through out the book. It’s an amazing book and I highly recommend it.
Joy doesn't believe that her brother killed himself. Now, someone wants her dead and has taken multiple shots at her. Why is someone trying to kill her? I was shocked when I found out who the shooter was. It was a good one.
Just read the first in the series and finally got the second one ordered. Laura Scott brought the second in the series. It was really good. Jeanette Stracner
Just read the first in the series. Ordered the second!. Laura Scott did a great job on this book. The second son meets and ends up helping his victim. Jeanette Stracner
Another great book in the series! I loved the characters, both the main and the side, and found them relatable. The story is fast paced with a lot of heart pounding moments. On to book 3!
