Ladies' Work-Table Book: Containing Clear And Practical Instructions

"Ladies' Work-Table Containing Clear And Practical Instructions"is a comprehensive nineteenth-century manual on domestic needlework. The text gathers detailed guidance across plain and fancy needlework, embroidery, knitting, netting, crochet, and lacemaking, plus instructions for preparing household linens and clothing. It explains materials, tools, stitches, and frames, and provides step-by-step procedures for making aprons, gowns, petticoats, shirts, table linen, and pantry textiles. Rich with patterns, diagrams, and practical tips, the book blends technical instruction with admonitions on economy, order, and virtuous conduct. It emphasizes choosing quality fabrics, keeping implements organized, and practicing regularity to achieve durable, neatly finished work. Dated

This is an old book and the language and attitudes within reflect the time in which it was written. It is packed full of information that in its day, was invaluable. Sadly, for us tiday, a lot of the information cannot be used as many of the materials listed do not exist anymore.

I enjoyed reading this book; however, it lacks the necessary illustrations as shown in the original publication. I would have liked to have seen some of the finished projects.

a bit hard to follow

Much knowledge is assumed, and unfamiliar terms are used; whatever is "a yard and six nails" of fabric? Beats me.
