This was by far and away the most difficult course in my college career and it was not enjoyable. However, I learned SO much-so that's kind of the point right?
This textbook is ginormous, expensive, and not terribly intuitive. And almost worthless without the companion study guide (An additional $40). I hate it when they have 100 problems in the end of the chapter to practice and no resource to know if you got them right or not.
I only got through chapter 13 this semester... I finish it next semester...
well,,,this book was a nightmare to me as a student,, it's too heavy so i didnt bring it on every intermediate accounting class which was for a year,, but..after a year or so..now i realize that this book teach me so much than i thought back then,, this is a must have book for any accounting students who works in any accounting-involved work.. even though they will publish a newer edition but at least you have to have one.
You know, for a textbook [about accounting no less], I thought this was pretty good. If you're the type of person who can learn a lot just by reading, you're going to have a grand ol' time with this. The examples are good. The example problems are helpful. There is a lot of real life mixed in so it's not just a bunch of theory.
That said, I'm glad to get it out of my backpack and off my bookshelf.
I laughed. I cried. It was an emotional journey to get through this book...what more could an avid reader want from a book? I can't give it 5 stars though. The sheer magnitude of the subject prevents any book from presenting it with perfection.
My favorite line from the book is the last line of the last chapter (before the appendix to the chapter). It is a quote from Aristotle. "The correct beginning is more than half the whole" (pg. 1520).
This book is an affront to pedagogy. I have carefully read and outlined 9 chapters of this book and it is confusing in the extreme. Only a professor who has no regard for students learning the material would use this textbook. The only way I can think to make this presentation of the material more difficult and complex involves fluent Swahili speakers and Navaho Code Talkers. The author of this book loves to skip steps and make easy concepts almost completely incomprehensible.
I can't say this textbook was fun but I definitely learned from it. However, I often discovered mistakes either in the text or in the online text and supplemental materials. I wish they'd make sure the text is correct instead of rushing to release new versions. I know certain chapters need to be updated when regulations change, but it's like no one proofreads the book!
Overall, this was an enjoyable read. I learned a lot. I like the names they give to the companies in problems sometimes. Makes the problems less boring. In some instances, the problems are missing important information necessary for the full completion of the problem, which is why this isn’t five stars.

Today I finished the weed out class of the accounting degree. Feeling successful. I read all 23 chapters of this book and can confidently say the brief exercises got me thru.
Wow, I can't believe that I finally got through 2 entire accounting textbooks. I don't exactly know if these are the best texts, but they are the ones that my University uses, so I was happy to learn about accounting. I had some great instructors, but I am glad to be done. Sometimes the examples given would be very simplistic and then the problems would be very involved and I would have to use outside resources to get the solution figured out, but all in all the resources were more than adequate. I would be interested in taking more accounting courses one day.
