Join Fidgety Fish and all his friends as they tumble and twirl, whizz and whirl through the ocean! Meet Smiley Shark, Amazing Angelfish, the Jiggly Jellyfish and many more on a busy day out with Fidgety Fish.
I guess when you see that Ruth Galloway is the lead name on the Cover Page, it is clear, books for children are all about the illustrations. However, this book is not just about the illustrations, which are truly wonderful and captivating.
It is also about a story written by Paul Bright, with a protagonist, otherwise known as the lead character called, 'Fidgety Fish' and the story is all about the journey under the see, as he meets lots of other types of underwater creature and shares a story through rhyme and alliteration.
The rhythm and rhyme is generally an A-B-A-B.
The smiley shark threw me a little with a rhythm of A-A-B-B-A, but otherwise the rhythm is static at A-B-A-B and the shark rhyme works. There are a few more rhymes that don’t use the A-B-A-B rhythm, can you spot them?
All the way through the book, Fidgety is playing peek-a-boo! What parent or guardian could ask for more in reading this interactive and colourful book with children under the age of seven. Then again, if you have a child reader over the age of seven who has not yet learned how to ‘enjoy’ reading. I highly recommend this book as a starting tool into the Writer's world of a poetry form.
Poetry and rhyme never grow old.
This book as a parent reader, re-enthused my own delight for poetry and the appreciation of others who are skilled artists, injecting colour and delight into the minds of children, and parents.
Fun rhymes and colourful pictures with sparkly sections have made this a winner for my 2.5 year old. We’ve read it at least three times a day since we got it from the library last week, and he’s started pointing out his favourites as we read (currently the sea turtle). Similar rhyming structure to the Disco Fish/Groovicorn series, without the textured pages.
3.75 stars I love the picture and the rhymes and the seascape. Cute book!

What makes me upset is SOMEONE ripped it! Okay no big deal, paper rips...but they did a HORRIBLE job of tapping it back together and I had to pull out the razor blade to fix it...it is now acceptable...at least you can read the words on the page... Follow rules number 4 at our library! LOVE YOUR BOOKS!
Cute story, the illustrations are cute. My kids loved that the "cave" was really a fish's mouth. Funny how Tiddler did not tell his mom what had happened even though she warned him about the very issue he dealt with. It makes me wonder how many times my kids have dealt with a problem and worked through it on their own without my knowledge.
Fidgety Fish and Friends uses onomatopoeia throughout the entirety of the text, describing the sounds of the ocean life. The illustrations are colorful and bold giving personality to each character throughout the book. This would be a great book to use in pre-k or Kindergarten.
A book with cute art and fun rhymes, but ultimately forgettable content. The boys I watch love the book because they love anything to do with the ocean, but there wasn't much as far as lessons, story line, or a concrete point to the story.
Alice adores any book about creatures living in the ocean. I'm fairly certain that she was a fish in her last life. This one definitely got an "Again! Again!"
