Gotta love the Seymour picture puzzle books by Walter Wick. My four-year-old granddaughter spent a lot of time with this independently. Nice.

A cumulative story in which a toy boy needs readers to help him find the items he will need to build a boat and set sail for an adventure.
Similar to the easy reader titles, this book is aimed at PreK-2.

My granddaughter liked this book at age 18 months. We would ask where something was and she would point to it. Now that she is two years old, she loves to point to an item and say what it is. Lots of fun!!

I gave this to my son on his second birthday and he read it every night for the next three weeks. A year and a half later, it is till a favorite on rotation. Simple story line, but fun to find all the objects as they are hidden in plain sight.
