Joachim Fernau was a German war correspondent, journalist, writer, painter, and art collector. He published a large number of articles, essays and novels. Historical themes are dealt with in much of his post-war work. He wrote about the history of Germany and the United States, for example, and devoted books to the ancient Greeks and Romans, whom he admired. Fernau was known for his accessible and often humorous writing style.
