Lincoln was so good at telling jokes and funny stories, he could make a cat laugh, people said. But he knew what it was like to be lonely and unhappy too. Sometimes he would look so sad you would want to cry just looking at him. What was Lincoln really like? What kind of a boy was he? What kind of man did he grow to be? What kind of President was he? She has written many biographies, true stories about people's lives. Some famous people she has written biographies about are Helen Keller, Annie Sullivan, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Golda Meir.
I first read this book not long after its 1976 publication date, and have read it multiple times since then, though probably none since junior high school. For being a kid's introduction to Lincoln, it does its job, from what Lincoln did as a a boy to how he interacted with his own kids. There are stories in this book that I've not seen anywhere else in the years since.
This doesn’t actually take so long to read but I started it with the intent to finish it within a day and decided to keep putting it off. But it is a good book to learn some insight on Abraham Lincoln.
