No Place Like Home by Margaret Watson The McInnes Triplets #2
Three sisters, triplets, dressed alike as children, pitted against one another by their father, finally returning to the family house to go through it after their father dies and hoping to become closer while dealing with the ghosts they never left behind. Their stories will unfold one by one in Spruce Lake where they once were not the happiest girls in the world but where love just might find each one of them.
In book two we hear Bree’s story. Having left home just out of high school and having to find her way on her own she returns to Spruce Lake to help go through her father’s things so the house can be sold. Along with her she brings her twelve year old son, Charlie. She has worked hard to pay for her education, take care of her son and make a life for herself. With a secret or two she does not want to share, a new job on the campus her father used to teach at, a job at a local bar to help make ends meet, a professor to fall for, sisters to get closer to and a lot to contend with this is a story that held my interest from beginning to end. Who knew that orchids could be so interesting or that an orchid enthusiast with a PhD in biology would be such a hunk?
Thank you to the author for the ARC – this is my honest review.
No Place Like Home, the second book in the McInnes Triplets series, is Bree's story. I enjoyed this one. The sisters are starting to become closer and mend their fractured relationship. Bree finally feels she can confide in them who is the father of her twelve-year-old son, Charlie, and why she took off when she was pregnant.
Parker teaches at the university where Bree is now working part time. I liked how he can relate to how Charlie feels because he, too, had an above average intelligence at Charlie's age. He attempts to keep himself separate, but soon finds himself worrying and caring about Charlie as if he's his son. It was nice to watch their relationship develop.
I also liked Bree and Parker together, although Bree worries about how Parker will view her after he learns about her past and about who Charlie's father is.
I'm looking forward to Fiona's story. She's the one sister who seems the most resistant to getting closer to her sisters, but in this book it's clear she really does care about them and Charlie.
Fans of contemporary romance should definitely give this book a read.
**I voluntarily read a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review**
After reading and reviewing the first book in this series, A Place Called Home, I knew I had to read the second book as soon as I could. Bree McInnes has made some mistakes in her life, but the love for her son Charlie has always dictated what she had to do to provide for him. Now Charlie is 12 years old and Bree has moved back to Spruce Lake to help her sisters, Fiona & Zoe (sister triplets) clean out their father’s home and to find a teaching job. At the college where she is filling in as a secretary, Bree meets Professor Parker Ellison and the attraction is immediate. The story moves effortlessly while the characters have such depth and emotion. This book could be a standalone, but I think you would enjoy the series by starting with the first book. Great second book for a series and I can’t wait to read the third and final book. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
I loved reading No Place Like Home(The Mcinnes Triplets Book 2), all about Bree & Parker Ellison and Charlie, Zoe & Gideon & Fiona or Fee. The girls are triplets and Bree her son Charlie & Fiona have come back to Spruce Lake to clean out their fathers house and sell it. While they are in town taking care of the house Bree gets a job at Collier College to get insurance and make money to continue paying Charlie’s medical bills off. Charlie has also been taking a biology class with Dr. Ellison, unbeknownst to his mom, and meets his Biological father Ted Cross. The author wrote a story about three girls trying to get over their hatred for their Dad by cleaning out his house and moving on with their adult lives. Read this book and see how Bree & Parker handle being adults in this crazy mixed up family in Spruce Lake! I can’t wait to read book 3!!!
After reading the first book I knew I needed to read the second book and certainly wasn't disappointed. Bree McInnes had to leave knowing she was pregnant and alone but would do anything to support herself and her son Charlie. She did what she had to do to provide for him now Charlie is 12 years old they have moved back to Spruce Lake to help her sisters, Fiona & Zoe (sister triplets). They have to clean out their father’s home and she has to find a permanent teaching job. She takes a job at the college filling in as a secretary and meets Professor Parker Ellison but the attraction is immediate and neither want it. The story carries you throughout and their story gets your emotions going........
Bree get's her chance to come clean with the secrets of her past and boy is she keeping some whoppers. Suddenly there are changes in her life that encourage her to put her big girls panties on and man up. When it all comes thru pride is still an issue and a hindrance but something has got to make her pay attention. Drastic times call for drastic action.
I have been following this author thru the Donavon clan and some others and it is always a pleasure reading her books. I am not sure how she keeps them from getting old or having a been there done that type of feel but it doesn't happen. As long as her books stay fresh and new I will continue to enjoy her suspense, drama, humor and a darn good read.
Bree has been running from everything her whole adult life. Taking care of her son Charlie is her focus ,but things are about to change as she starts working for the Professor.
A very well written story. Enjoying reading about the McInes triplets and how they are trying to heal their fractured lives. Young Charlie stole my heart.
I enjoyed and was annoyed by A Place Called Home. The plotting is sound and the characters are fully realized and compelling but my issue was the constant re-iteration of the heroine’s past. Okay, she was a wild-child and she slept around and broke up a few marriages…I got it the first few times it was mentioned. The reader doesn’t need to be hit over the head with this time and time again.
I had the same issue with the ‘murder’ of Gideon’s brother. The hero calls the heroine a murderer multiple times even though she was acquitted. Gideon is a lawyer so if anyone should understand the legal process it’s him yet he still believes she’s a murderer. IMO, he deals with this situation all the time and should know how to accept the verdict gracefully. A Place Called Home is a pleasant read though it could have been much stronger. ~ Ana, www.ireadromance.com
It wasn't too bad of a story. Even Ted turned out to be a decent guy. I was actually impressed by how the storyline went. I would of liked to see Ted stick up to Jonathon though. The story totally misses all those juicy aspects.
This is Bree’s story, and it’s a good one! Margaret Watson writes such enjoyable stories. This storyline has 3 sisters who grew up in a very dysfunctional environment; each having their own demons and issues to overcome. Bree has had to struggle as a single parent of a child who began life with medical challenges. She did what she had to do to survive and make a home for herself and her son. Her past has raised its ugly head to bring more difficulties to her life. Bree’s such a strong character that she meets each of these challenges and hardships with strength and grace. As you read, you fall in love with Bree and Parker, and, of course, Charlie.
This was such a good read that it was hard to put down! One worth losing sleep over!! I highly recommend you read this series!
