Nancy Rue is the author of over 100 books for adults and teens, including the Christy Award-winning The Reluctant Prophet, Unexpected Dismounts and Healing Waters (with Steve Arterburn), which was the 2009 Women of Faith Novel of the Year. She travels extensively—at times on the back of a Harley—speaking to and teaching groups of women of all ages. Nancy lives on a lake in Tennessee with her Harley-ridin’ husband, Jim, and their two yellow Labs (without whom writing would be difficult).
This is a great little book for girls! The voice it's written in is very conversational for girls, and not at all condescending. Filled with hygiene information, how-to sections on things like washing your face, wearing makeup, and caring for your hair, this book is a wonderful resource for girls who are starting to care about their appearance. These girls often feel lost and unsure of what to do and how to do it. This book will be a wonderful help to them, and I especially love that there is a focus on remaining true to oneself. I also love the focus on how we are "fearfully and wonderfully made" by God. Girls are encouraged to focus on that, to use it to remind themselves that they are exactly who God wants them to be.
I wish here had been a book like this when I was beginning to think about makeup, skin care, and other aspects of my appearance. When my daughters (I have two) enter that phase, I will encourage each of them to read this book. Hopefully they will take the lessons to heart and remember to be who God made them, rather than trying to live up to someone else's expectations.
