'Yukito Ayatsuji' is the original creator of Another. He is a famous writer of mystery and Japanese detective fiction. He is also one of the writers that demands restoration of the classic rules of detective fiction and the use of more self reflective elements. He is married to Fuyumi Ono, author of The Twelve Kingdoms and creator of Ghost Hunt, Juuni Kokuki, and the author for a few other manga.

In some ways, this collection of spooky tales from a fictional Kyoto suburban town reminds me of Shirley Jackson's short stories.

Originally I only gave this book 2 stars, but after this re-read, the rating is upgraded to 4 stars.

It's an enjoyable book, but I like the sequel even better.

主角「我」因為眩暈，偶然間住進深泥丘醫院，從住院的某晚見到奇怪的事情，展開這個由數個短篇組合成，以深泥丘地區為背景﹝深泥丘醫院為主﹞的奇談。

主角「我」是本格派推理的作家，以他見到的怪事、聽到的異聲為這三本書奇談的主軸。綾辻行人以聲音和視覺交錯相替，為讀者創造一個事情就是這樣發生，但是大腦卻無法理解跟解釋的怪異現象，不時搭配「我」職業標配的分析推理，加深這些詭異的事情的確發生在這個世界上的印象。

除了奇談之外，作者更透過故事中永遠的班底：石倉醫師一、石倉醫師二、石倉醫師三、護士咲谷一夥人怪怪的笑意、心照不宣的眼神，還有每每聽到奇聞時，主角妻子總是以「你住在這邊的時間明明比我久，卻什麼都不記得」這種回應，孤立主角的思想及理智，營造冷靜的恐怖、介於發瘋邊緣的模糊。
