Ummm... What did I just read?

Okay... so this is some weird, oddly touching, yet freaky, but VERY amateur-ish writing... Though I'm sure most of these phrases being uttered are definitely spoken in the deep South🤣🤣

With all that being said, crazy that I couldn't stop reading this😂..

But I did not like how several things played out here, and you'll have to read the next book to see the outcome of Dee and Sebastián...

I also dislike that what happened to Dee's sister and who actually did it, how that is resolved, but still left up in the air, cause the truth is not public knowledge.. Also the spice here, is not all that spicy.. NEEDS WORK... BADLY... So these are the reasons why this one gets 3 ✨

Because the writing here is very, in many ways juvenile and not tight and focused, I don't see myself reading this entire series.. Though I am considering reading book 2, cause that's Roman's book. He had a strong role here in book 4, so I am a bit curious about the story of he and his wife.. But we'll see if I read his book or not..

This was another great read, I enjoyed the storyline and the main two characters. I feel her friend needs to be handled, that girl is no good. I hope that the last book will clear up all the things that were not answered in previous books. I would recommend.

Good Story

I like Sebastian and Dee. Lanisha needs to get hers. I would really like to know where Rebel is located. On to the next.

This will be my last "Small town..." book. I honestly continued to pick up the series for the smut, but the plot hasn't been good since the first novel.

Story Just Didn’t Do These Characters Justice

It pains me to leave a 3-star review. I am leaving it in hopes the author reads reviews for constructive feedback. I have really enjoyed this series. I was eagerly awaiting this book because I liked the teasers that I read. I loved these characters and the potential storyline. Their personalities were so perfectly captured through their letter exchanges. I thought this was a great way to get to know who they were. The description of Sebastian’s adjustment to life and Dee’s grieving process were well written. HOWEVER, it saddens me to say, there just wasn’t enough story! Similar to other reviewers, I felt the story was rushed (especially the last couple chapters) and too short. I enjoyed Roman’s appearance but there wasn’t much detail about a developing relationship between Roman and Sebastian. None of the other brothers were mentioned except a passing sentence or two about Rebel. Sebastian and Dee were two great characters, with a lot of potential to be more, and I just feel the lack of story didn’t do them any justice. As an aside, I was also thinking the next book would be about Ross but when I saw a teaser for the next book, I couldn’t help but wonder, where is the author going with the book series and storyline? I will read the next book because I feel invested in all the characters from books 1-4 and would really like to see a reconciliation between all the brothers. I just hope the story is more thoughtful and characters are given the time and space to be who they can be.

Short with Inconsistency

*****Spoilers*****

Develop the story a little more making it longer, tighten up the scene transitions, and check for consistently and this one could be great. As is, it's short with lots of action but doesn't feel like enough. Dee and Sebastian become pen pals while he's doing 7 for beating someone up badly. To add to things, Dee's sister waS murdered. Dee's living with her mom and sometimes with her friend when mom's husband and Dee's stepfather make a pass. Sebastian gets out of jail and they meet coincidentally before realizing their connection. Most of the rest of the book is having to read about Lanisha, Dee's raggedy friend and McCall family stuff. The serial killer thing was more a confusion for me than anything else, like why throw him in there and especially since he clearly gave himself away and early. In any case, the mains were okay but would've loved more book.

WTH?

I wanted to like this book but I'm confused on why we've introduced a whole new McCall "cousin" before we've gotten a book on Ross or any closure to the other brothers storylines/relationship with each other. This book leaves even more questions, namely how the storyline with Livingston wrapped so quickly and Dee not telling anyone what he actually was/had done. Also, the dynamic between Dee and Sebastian was off...though I like his character. I just think she was too young too young acting. Dee's relationship with Lanisha was some ghetto BS especially when considering what her supposed friend did to her and Sebastian at the end. Of all the books in the series this one is my least favorite so far with one more to go...SMH.

Going to enjoy reading this over & over

Will it come to light in the end that Livingston killed the girl land placed her in Rebel truck. I was hoping this would be longer, man this is a good series. I hate when I finish because then I have to wait for the next one. I would have love reading Dee beat Lanisha behind, now that something worth really reading about, I know I would. Sebastian trying to take all the blame to protect his women that just made me smile, and go aw. The loving 🥰 was mind blow and dirty I needed a partner at those time. A great story you enjoy reading them over and over, this will be a series I do that.

On the edge of my seat Good!!!

Wow! The intrigue, suspense is out of his world. The low life, dirty, corrupt sheriff’s are after the McCall’s because of their prestige, their money and their connections. The small town stalker wasn’t a McCall but from a well known and prestigious family! SPOILER ALERT: Sebastian survived and he and Dee are together (married) after I cried my eyes out. The person that the town idolized was more ruthless than the McCall’s! This is definitely a must read.

Surprisingly Enjoyable

I’m enjoying this series and was kinda resigned to a messy ending aka ‘not quite happily ever after’ because of book 3 but hearing that the next book would be the end of the series has me wondering how on earth would the author tie up the threads of the other stories. I nevertheless enjoyed this particular story and gave it a five star rating because I did not think I would enjoy anything that was not one of the original MaCall brothers. I did not have much hope for it but nevertheless enjoyed it. Hopefully with the final book it would be the same.

Not what I thought

This was not at all what I thought it would be. I guess living in the south you have to expect some racial disrespect but this was really unsettling for me. It was almost as if he was falling in love with an alien and not a “black human girl”. The intimate scene in black florin, her neighborhood, was disrespectful and totally not thoughtful of a man who cares about the female he knows to be a virgin. I understand falling in love with a pen pal, but these two truly have nothing in common other than both being country!

I was really disappointed with this book. I’ve enjoyed the other books in this series but the writing felt so different in this one. It was rushed, inconsistent, and a lack of story development, which is unfortunate because I could have really liked the characters. I had to reread certain parts because I was so confused as to how we got there. I didn’t understand why the serial killer story went the way it did. I didn’t understand the lack of involvement with the rest of the McCall’s. I really hope the next book is an improvement.

Love

One can't explain this book because it was filled with a lot of drama between friends, family and the devil. Sebastian knew what life would be like getting out of prison after 6 years. Denicia still was depressed over her sisters death, but she was the only one trying to solve it because no one else cared what happened to her. When they started writing each other it became more then just letters. Then came Livingston crazy stalker wanted Dee for himself but wanted to play with her first. It's a great read and you will love it

wow this town

This book/series is a hot mess. There is so much going on that it is hard to keep track of how the stories all tie in together. So many unanswered questions. I am looking forward to the final boo to see how it all ends for all the characters. What happened to Rebel?
What happened to Ross’ girlfriend?
What happened to Lanesha?
Do all the brothers finally make up in the end?
The one thing that is constant with this series is the the stories are very interesting. I find it difficult to put the books down.

All the Drama and the Shivers

This series is so unique, so well written. Talk about world building! These hollers and small towns so connected. I truly enjoy how the McCall thread through each novel pulls strong. Belly laughs and clutching pearls as I drink in the story accompanied my day of this new release. I admit I waited a long time for this story, and it was worth every second.

Not Pollyanna

The HEA is that they get together. Everything else is you rooting for things to work out for them although life will be tough. I feel sorry for everyone except for Lanisha and the killer.
On the bright side, Dee and Sebastian is a wonderful couple. They are each others hope and freedom. Life deals them sucky lemons. Those two make the best of their situation. I hope everything works out for them.

4.5

An entertaining read that I managed to finish quickly on my day off! Not a 5 because I hate the constant weaving in of sexual violence/ talk of sexual violence in Meadows’ books. That’s why I skipped parts of book 2 and didn’t go on to book 3, but because of those gaps, I foolishly thought it wouldn’t be mentioned in this book.

Another great read

Love the McCalls and their relationship with woman of colour. The reason why I only gave 4* is because I found it odd how quickly Dee and Seb met. Also I was annoyed about the ending for Livingston considering he was a serial killer. Made no sense to me. Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed this series and looking forward to the next one

Small Town Stalker

Sebastian and Denicia's story was a good read. They made a nice couple and he was a goodhearted person even if he did beat the wrong man. He did his time and justice was served when the killer of Emme and Shavon met his demise. Can't wait to read Small Town Sheriff.

I have enjoyed each book in this series but this book seemed to leave a lot of unanswered questions. I like the main characters, but there wasn't a connection with the brothers made. I'll read the next book, but I hope it is better than this one even though this book was ok it was missing something.

The author start to imply thing but never ties it all together Duke needs a story line what did he do that his boys tried to protect each other? The serial killer gets killed his pays the sheriff then it just doesn’t go anywhere

Wow!!! Awesome!!! Loved it!!

This was a page turner, I couldn't stop myself from reading this story. I was a nice twist to the story to introduce two new characters while tying in old characters and answering some questions while still adding more drama. Can't wait to read the next book. It just keep getting better and more interesting.

Still thinking on this one.

I wish you could give half stars because I would’ve made this a 3 1/2 and not just 3. Something was missing in this for me, I really don’t know how to feel about it. This was different from the other McCalls books that I’ve read. This wasn’t one of the best but definitely not the worst because it did hold my attention and it was an interesting read.

Not Happy

Totally not happy with the ending of this book. It made no sense to prolong this story. Too many loose ends that could have been completed in this story. So disappointed!!!!!

Good read

Love the series. Sebastián needs to join forces with Roman, Rebel and the rest of the Macall brothers. Will there be a follow-up with Lanisha? Looking forward to the next in the series.

Very Nice Romance

These two lonely people had unusual circumstances in how they got together. Those relationships with those around them didn't care much being shown respect or being respectful. At last between two people love proves it can concurs all.

The story line felt rushed and incomplete…the main characters went from writing prison letters to I’m in love in what seems like less than a minute. What happens in the hotel room and how it was resolved is unbelievably crazy!
