Królestwo złotych łez

Rate this book

Amazing journey to the time of Spanish conquest (and a little bit before and after that) of Peru. Tragic, in most ways, but fascinating nonetheless. The pure scale of Spanish brutality, bestiality and terror is very much shown in this book.

The format of it is very peculiar as well, the author himself does in fact acknowledge it at the end of the book. The historical fiction presented in the book often smoothly transitions into purely scientific, historical and archaeological parts. It does not bother me at all, as both the historical fiction and the non-fiction are written very well.

Second part of the book, concerned with the Incas, their culture, religion and very oppressive political and ruling system is absolutely fascinating. The parts concerned with Spaniards and their inner squabblings, fight for power, treasons and brutal inner wars drag a little bit tho, especially with all of the hundreds of conquistador names Kosidowski often throws at the reader. Would also love to have some small Chachapoyas history thrown in as well! Nonetheless I wholeheartedly recommend this beautiful, well researched for it's time and very sad and tragic book to anyone interested in the topic of Incas and precolonial history of Peru.
