This new edition of The Lost Princess, retold and illustrated by Karen Mezek, opens up afresh a classic fairy tale by George MacDonald. Captivating dark, romantic images help bring alive MacDonald's unforgettable & enchanting tale about two spoiled girls-a princess & a shepherd's daughter- and their magical encounters with a mysterious old Wise Woman.
MacDonald was a minister in 19th-century Scotland who became an internationally acclaimed author, lecturer, & storyteller. His innovative fantasy stories have inspired many other writers, including C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, & Maurice Sendak.
I'm a little disturbed I found this in the Juvenile section of my library. It was entertaining, the illustrations were gorgeous! But this has the potential to really mess up a kid. It broke most of not all of the rules of writing children's books and not in a good way. What the Lost Princess went through would be nightmarish for a child! Perhaps this is a fairytale meant more for adults and I've misunderstood. Ps. It doesn't have a happy ending.
