Despite being published in 1887, this is a good introductory tome that covers the period from the coronation of Edward III (1327) through to 1360. It covers notable episodes as the death of Edward II and the fall of Mortimer; the Scottish expeditions; and the battles of Sluys, Crecy, Neville's Cross, Poitiers, Berwick..

It is written in excerpt form, and is based upon the writings of the day, notably Froissart's Chronicle, Johan le Bel, Chronicle of Lanercost, Robert of Avesbury.

A decent entry level history of the period - a jumping off point for more indepth research.

First published in 1887 Ashley has used contemporary accounts to chronicle the wars of Edward III. While making an interesting read I would have liked some maps detailing location of the battles and the movements of the participants.
