Preschoolers may identify with Kai-Lan, as she does what she can to form a band.

Very, very easy reading is assisted by pictures, like the one for TAMBOURINE.

For this Goodreader, the best part is the book's definition of rhyming:

A rhyme is two words
that sound the same"
says Kailan, "like hose and rose."

FIVE STARS or a fun approach to forming a band. (Joke) It's a fun approach to reading, aided by learning how to hear when words rhyme.

Whenever I find a Kai-lan or YGG book in the library I grab it! This one was particularly nice because the pictures embedded in the text allowed Natalie to read along the first time we read the story. Its been a month and we still haven't returned this one and it stays on her bed every night. As far as the story goes, it follows the episode closely and gives the lesson of "try, try, try."

This book does show three examples of rhyming; however, it doesn't show how you know if two words rhyme. (By the ending sound.) Therefore, it is lackin in that section, but this is a level 1 ready to read book and is just introducing rhyming. You would have to be familiar with the characters of the show to read this book.
