This was my first graphic novel I read on Teen Book Cloud for our public library spring reading program. I recommend reading on a desktop computer instead of the cell phone for ease of eye strain. I enjoyed this book, as it reminded me of reading the actual book series during my childhood.

My book is The Hardy Boys: #14 By Scott Lobdell and Daniel Rendon. The book is an interesting take on the original Hardy Boys series. It’s a graphic novel reboot or remake of the original stories. This book is a mystery thriller, which is kind of cheesy to be honest. The following paragraphs will describe the writing style and the actual purpose of the book.
The author’s purpose was obviously to entertain. The book wasn’t very entertaining to me, but it may be because of my age and my experience with books. I like to read more mature books about historical events such as World War II. That’s why this book may not be for me. Anybody that enjoys books such as Nancy Drew, etc. would most likely enjoy this book. I thought the art style was very well done and nice. The art style could be described as that of an anime. The art is very much exaggerated. By that I mean that if the art was anything it would be a hyperbole. To be honest I don’t entirely like the art style. It’s just a very unique art style.
The book itself is pretty easy to read. If I were rating this book 10 out of 10 points. It would receive a 6/10 from me. This seems to be at around a 3rd or 5th grader reading level. At least this is what I would be reading around that time. I was actually disappointed with the low reading level style of writing in the book. I actually was able to read it in the small amount of one day because of how insanely easy it was to read. The original books were much more complicated in the writing style.
A summary of the plot (without giving away the “culprit” of the mystery) is a girl talks about her top 8 best friends on social media, and each of them start disappearing in order in relation to the social media post. I thought this was a pretty stupid plot. I think it’s kind of promoting bully in a way. Why would someone risk hurting someone’s feelings (by pointing out their own best friends and saying those are their most all-time favorites) Also the reason her friends are disappearing, is because of a jealous little brat. The idea of this plot was literally so stupid I thought about picking a different book literally right after telling my teacher this was the book I was doing a report on. I know I tried being constructive with my criticism at the beginning of this book report, but this book is just so stupid. This book was I waste of my time.
My conclusion, this book could be better if the improved these things, more realistic art style, more depth into the story, more knowledge of character development, and as well as the a higher reading level type of writing style. The art was too cartoon like for this style of story for me. The story was show short and rushed. When they tried to make the story more exciting, it just added extra cheese sauce to the already cheesiest story of all time. The Character development in this story was about as descriptive as a baby describing what the declaration of independence is. I barely know anything about the characters. The “bad guy” in the story literally shows up for around a millisecond of the entire story.
Finally the reading level, the reading level could be greatly upgraded or improved. The story could be more vivid with its wording and when it’s describing things. Don’t even get me started on the worlds cheesiest jokes included in this book for the low cost of your sanity.

My favorite characters of course were the: "Hardy Boys."

My favorite part was when the ending has the first chapter it was SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The mystery was a GREAT mystery... and was Really hard to solve but fun.

Also I didn't have to read it in ORDER to know what it was all about.

I'd recommend this to 6+.

Good but not enough

The art style is fantastic, (hence the 3 stars) however the plot was altogether lacking and watered down for me. Not to mention there were quite a few grammar errors that could have been easily corrected if the comic was proof read...(I'm assuming it wasn't or the editor was lazy)

Haley is begging the Hardy brothers to help find out why her top friends online are vanishing, so Joe and Frank begin an investigation that leads to not only Haley being thrown into danger, but their own lives being put on the wire! Lobdell will get readers gasping and chuckling with this exciting adventure that spans the web!
