This new addition to the Read and Share TM brand contains 40 stories plus a 60 minute DVD including bonus features just for toddlers. The Read and Share Toddler Bible is a delightful way to introduce little ones ages one to four to God’s Word. Gwen Ellis’s engaging retelling of Bible stories along with Steve Smallman’s colorful art communicate God’s Word clearly to small tots with short attention spans. Stories from both the Old and New Testaments include all-time favorites ranging from Creation, Noah, Moses, Abraham, Isaac, Joseph, David, to Jesus’ birth, miracles, death, and resurrection. Bonus DVD includes stories and bonus features from the popular Read and Share TM DVD Bible series. Each story is three minutes long to keep toddlers attention span engaged.
Gwen is a seasoned writer who greatly enjoys the process of co-writing books with authors. As well as being involved in the editorial process in publishing houses, she has written many books for both adults and children. Some of these products have been best-sellers and continue to be after a number of years. She has ghost written four books for other authors.
Esmé (28 months) and I were in love with this Read and Share Toddler Bible (stories retold by Gwen Ellis; recommended audience ages 1-4) the moment we ripped open the package.
The illustrations (by Steve Smallman) are perfect for capturing a toddler's attention. There are 40 Bible stories, each in a vocabulary Esmé can easily follow, as well as an engaging style that gets the toddler involved. The lessons of God’s love are relevant and easy to understand.
There are suggested activities following each story to reinforce it. For instance, in the story of Joseph, I can get out my emotions cards and have Esmé identify the emotions of the various characters throughout the story. Or in the story of Abram's journey to Canaan, I can lead Esmé on a "long" walk or journey, with a treat at the end.
And the Bonus DVD that comes with it? Well, Esmé had it ripped out of the cover of the book and into the DVD player before I finished opening up the rest of the mail. The 60-minute DVD is broken up into three-minute stories.
This is the first Bible story DVD that really captured Esmé's attention to the point that she preferred it over the other non-Bible DVDs we have. I was somewhat surprised, because the animation and story lines were quite simple, but she has requested what she calls the "God/Jesus/donkey" DVD over and over again as her first choice.
Thanks to Thomas Nelson’s Book Review Blogger program (http://brb.thomasnelson.com/) for the review copy of this book.
This book is a Bible for young children, full of beautiful illustrations and wonderful stories. Created to share the Word of God with toddlers, it serves as a great tool for introducing many of the important stories from the Bible from an early age. This book is perfect for toddlers and young children just learning to read.
I found this children's Bible to be thorough and simple. Each story references the Scripture from which it was taken, and at the end of each section there is a special note for parents to use to connect the story to "real life". The use of onomatopoeia's, such as Clipety-Clop, allow the reader to animate the story vocally, which works well combined with the colorful illustrations. The illustrations were beautiful, fascinating, and fun to look at, and will surely interest the toddler's eyes and imagination.
I felt that the author captured the main themes of the Bible well and presented them in a fashion that toddler's would enjoy and learn from. By combining the illustrations, parent connections, and actual Scripture-based words, this toddler's Bible may work as a successful book, though with the temperamental attention spans of some toddlers, it may be tough to keep them focused.
In addition to the actual book, a bonus DVD is included, which contains an hour of fourteen Bible stories. This is great for children of all ages, even as young as infants.
“Crrrrrreak! Crrrrrreak! God shut the door of the boat. It started to rain. Pitter-patter. Pitter-patter. The wind blew. Oooo! Oooooo! Inside the boat, everyone was snug and safe.“ This quote is from the story "Noah and the Big Boat", one of the many wonderful stories you will find in Gwen Ellis’ new Read and Share Toddler Bible.
Toddlers will love spending hours upon hours of quality time with their parents while reading and participating in the parent-child interactive learning suggestions. As a special bonus, you will receive a 60-minute DVD fully animated with Bible characters that will most definitely capture your youngsters imagination.
Previously, I reviewed the Read and Share DVD Bible Vol. 1 by Gwen Ellis and there are 13 stories from both the Old and New Testament. (3 minute bite-size vignettes) But the 60-minute DVD from the Read and Share Toddler Bible has many new stories included on it. One delightful story is that of Balaam’s Donkey. My toddler loved it! She watched the whole DVD three times yesterday. She would chuckle every time the donkey talked and grimace every time Balaam would strike the donkey on the behind. This of course provoked many questions from her and that's a good thing!
I highly recommend both the New Read and Share Toddler Bible along with the accompanying 60-minute DVD for any parent or grandparent.
Once again, another great title by author Gwen Ellis. The Read and Share Toddler Bible is a wonderful book geared to toward infants and toddlers. This hardcover book is filled with various well-loved Bible stories from both the new and old testament. Illustrations are beautifully done by artist Steve Smallman for both the bonus DVD and the Bible story book. At the end of each story there a small tid-bit of information for parents or grandparents to encourage discussion with children of each story read.
I really enjoyed watching the DVD with my daughter this afternoon. She was captivated by each story and was paying very well attention. She would say Baby when she saw baby Moses and Jesus. She said dog when she saw the dog running around with the shepherd in the Lost Sheep story. She would also say yum yum each time characters in the various stories would eat. She was also pretty captivated by the shiny angels. Though she is a little young to understand each story, I know we’ll be reading this book and watching the wonderful bonus DVD together as she grows to understand more and more each day.
I highly recommend both the New Read and Share Toddler Bible along with the accompanying 60-minute DVD for any parent or grandparent.

When I first opened up the book my first thought was how cute the illustrations were. I knew that my daughter Julianna (age 4) would like it. This book is geared toward very young children as the stories are very short in length. There are 40 stories in total. The stories are all adapted from the Bible. There is a DVD that come with the book that contains animated versions of the stories from the book. It runs 60 minutes in length. Julianna and my son, Ben~8yrs~ both watched in on Sunday after church and enjoyed it. There was one story in the book and DVD that bothered me a bit because of my beliefs it was the story of Adam and Eve. The story was portrayed with a "ssssneaky snake." I have taught my children that it is in fact Satan tempting Eve. My daughter said she liked the story of Eve with the snake the best, so then I had to discuss with her about the snake etc.. Other then this it is a really cute book. It is small enough for little hands to carry and look at.
The Read and Share Toddler Bible is a great gift for that toddler in your life. It is 192 pages of Bible stories that are told in simple and short words. Each story starts with a reference so that parents can teach kids where they can find the story in the Bible. The pictures are simple and colorful. As a bonus a DVD is included with the book. This is great for listening to when traveling or put it in so your child can listen while you do that small bit of house work. I enjoyed this so much that I need to make sure I have one for each of my children to share with their kids.
