In today's society, perhaps more than ever, young children need to develop empathy. In this simple book, the author begins by helping children see that when they are sick, hurt, or unhappy, others care about them. Children can then begin to see that others need to be cared about as well. Common situations will further a child’s appreciation for and understanding of what others feel and need.

this is a good series with helpful guidance for parents and teachers to open up ways to talk to children about the things we do every day. But to show, also, we are already doing it probably. it reinforces to us and the children we are already showing how much we care about others by the things we do and say. it gently yet directly reinforces not to hurt or bully others and basically the golden rule to try and do unto others as you would like done to you. quick simple read without alot of fluff to get to the point without getting lost in the story. sometimes, a story needs to be read for fun and a message is great if it is in there. and sometimes you need the message to be direct. these books do it. libraries might consider highlighting series like this in a pamphlet for educators and parents alike. it might even help for the betterment of the programs. maybe Intergrate them into a read along before mommy and me or any child program as a quick gentle reminder of how to treat others at the library without being overbearing about rules. who knows, it may be a mindful way to showcase the many books at the disposal of the community. maybe even have them out on the tables for review for the parents waiting or again in a paper of what we were focusing on in this group today with book suggestions to take home . education, learning is learned through play. books open the door gently into the next step toward so much more. isn't that why we are at the library or bookstore?
This is a cute book! This book first explains how someone is always there for you. It then goes on to explain how you should treat others the way you like to be treated. It also has some examples of what you shouldn't do to others if you wouldn't like it done to you. I would recommend this book to ages 4 and up. Four is about the time when they can start to understand how what they do might make others feel because they understand how it makes them feel. I think this is a good book for parents and teachers. I feel like this can be really helpful for one on one with children and their parents at home if they have siblings as well.
This story teaches children the importance of caring for others and having someone who cares about them. Through cute bear illustrations, the story shows ways that children can care about others and refrain from doing things that harm others. The story is perfect for teaching young children appropriate behaviors, empathy, and feelings.

This book shows different ways you can show that you care about someone. It is a great read to develop social emotional skills in children. The pictures are cute and colorful to keep the children entertained.
Great book, the pictures are cute and colorful to keep the children entertained. great story to teach young children about empathy. Empathy is an important trait for children to have at a young age. Also this can be a great way to go into the rules for the classroom and how to treat others
This story helps children to learn empathy. It also shows them how to be kind towards other people. It is a sweet book with great illustrations for children to look at.
Great way to show children how to care for each other and be kind. Nicely illustrated children will be able to easily understand the concept of caring.
It is a simple story and colorful illustrations. Reading caring books in the class will promote children social-emotional skills, especially for the young one. This book is good for age 2 and 5.
This is another good book that introduces good social-emotional skills to young children. The book strives to teach empathy for others and how their actions effect others. This story is fairly simplistic and would be appropriate for young preschoolers and up.
Another sweet way to introduce social and emotional practices in your classroom. Teachers are able to use this in the class when creating classroom rules and why its important to stay friendly. The pictures give a sense of calm and collective.
This book would be great for the classroom. If the subject that you are teaching has to deal with being nice to others, this would be a great selection. in this's book it talks at first how the child likes when people care for them. So, this is up to the teacher to be nice and care for all their students, like they should. Then it goes into how the child likes to care for others that are hurt, etc. I think that when bringing this into the classroom it would go hand in hand with treat others how you want to be treated. You could also do a skit or something along the lines on the lesson.
I am not sure how I feel about this book. I can't decide if they are helpful for kids to be able to express how they are feeling or if the message they are conveying takes precedence over telling a really good story that could have done the same thing.
I've been collecting all these Cornelia Spelman books about feelings for the library. They are good for guidance class or other classroom discussions with younger students about dealing with feelings appropriately (or even identifying feelings).
When I Care about others is a great book that teaches young children about empathy. Empathy is an important trait for children to have at a young age. This book is well written and illustrated and give young children an idea of empathy. Overall a must read for children.
