Tražeći neku manje stresniju knjigu, slučajno naleteh na ovu knjigu. Nisam se pokajao ni sekunde! Kakva knjiga!
Preporuka!😊

Revitalizujući odmor za mentalno zdravlje u formi knjige 💆‍♀️°❀

Ipak, uprkos svemu, priča ostaje neočekivano iskrena, nenategnuta i tek blago bajkovita.

The plot happened too quickly, like the author was trying to cram in every bit of her story to fit an ending she had thought of beforehand. I honestly felt like I was reading a mediocre fan fiction. It was a cute story but not much depth or development.

Four and a half stars :) I really enjoyed reading it. If it was a bit deeper I would give it five stars. All in all good Sunday afternoon read.

well... i can definitely see why fifteen y/o me enjoyed this so much, but re-reading it ten years later, i am not that big of a fan as i once was. don't get me wrong, it is an incredibly fun and easy read with several funny and swoon worthy moments, but then again... bestie i hate to say it: ms semple? yeah, not the best of writers.

there are certain things about this book that just haven't aged well; there were literally separate chapters for three sentenced paragraphs; a lot of the characters were two dimensional and in desperate need of fleshing out;

also!! tw:

in conclusion: decent read, but if i had written it, it would've been a five star book.

I was so close to a dnf. The main character, Faith, is complicated, but I couldn't get over the fact that her main personality disorder was being a liar. She works at a cosmetic counter in a department store and spends most of the book trying to live up to the lies she has been spouting. "I think about how when you examine your face you can see ugly bits that no one else can. I start to think, maybe that's what life is like. Maybe we just magnify the bad things to such an extent they eclipse what is good. So that's probably why I lie. Because lies act exactly the same as concealer. They cover up the bits of our life we think are pig-ugly." Not much to redeem this book, but it ended nicely.

2026 Popsugar #44.Two books written by real-life partners or spouses (2)

I would never have stumbled upon this book if not for this prompt in the challenge and I am so glad I did. It isn't the best romance I've read, it has its flaws, but it was still enjoyable to read. Faith is a liar...and to keep her recently widowed mother from disappointment she makes up a fake boyfriend and a fake job and then has to keep lying and that just results in more and more problems. Then she falls for her real like neighbor, Frank and finds that the real thing is better than any fiction.

A nice light easy chick lit read. Faith has made up her entire life to keep her mom happy. She goes through a bunch of trouble until she finds a way to work out this mess. You know what’s gonna happen but it doesn’t stop you from enjoying the ride! That feel good ending happens and so by the end you’re a happy reader. Total hallmark movie type and sometimes it’s needed!

Definitivamente no volvería a leerlo.

—«¿Disciplina general?» ¿Qué idioma es ese?—. Y luego, tras licenciarme, me fui a Australia…

—¿Ah sí? ¿A qué parte?

—Eh… a Sidney.

—Estuve allí hace seis años.

Mierda.

—Oh, vaya.

—¿Dónde vivía?

Oh, Dios.

—Estuve en… M… Manley.

Mi percusionista interno vuelve a escena.

—Eh, hacia mucho… calor.

Vale, me arriesgaré a imaginarme unos pulcros calzoncillos ajustados. Negros.

Me distrae.

The very first page intrigued me. Then I looked at what genre the library had given it - and discovered it was a romance. Almost put it back on the shelf. Romances are not my thing, ever since I stopped reading Georgette Heyer a hundred years ago.

At one stage I did belong to a national body of romance writers. I didn't write, but I did read for the various competition the organisation held. It didn't increase my admiration for romance writers. Those bulging trousers....

The Make-Up Girl, however is not your average romance. It has the bulging trousers too, but I'd call it more chic literature than a romance.

The heroine is unusual in as much she lies as naturally and instinctively as breathing.

I actually went to school with a girl like that. She was attractive, sociable, could dance, could sing, and not bad at school work. But she would say things that were transparently, irrationally, unnecessarily and irrelevantly untrue.

I think those sorts of people are called pathological liars. On the surface there's nothing premeditated or motivated behind their lies - according to the listeners. But obviously there's something behind it for them. At least that's what this book suggests.

According to various studies, we're all inclined to tell lies. Society wouldn't be the polite well-oiled organisation if we didn't make use of the odd untruth by either avoiding saying what we really think, or agreeing with something externally with which we don't agree internally.

So while a book about a lying heroine doesn't seem like something worth-while, in this case it has its moments. It also has the shortest chapters I've ever come across - one hundred chapters to be exact - so you find yourself zooming from one to the other at superman speed.

I finished it at one sitting.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. There are some hard hitting issues in this book, which make it more than just a light, fluffy read, but which are dealt with in a way that it doesn't overwhelm the comedic part of the story.

Faith Wishart is a liar, a compulsive one. She's been lying for years to her mom about everything; her job and love life especially. She's got a fictional boyfriend named Adam and she works in a PR company, when in reality she's single and works as a makeup girl for Keats cosmetics in a grocery store. All of her lies come to a head when her younger sister Hope arrives in England without telling anyone she's left Australia and come back. Of course when Hope went, she cut all ties with her family, so they wouldn't have known anyways. But Hope is now a wealthy celebrity, which makes Faith jealous and even more desperate not to get caught. So now she has to find a way to make her lies the truth.

Trust me. You'll be surprised by this book. It's my first book by Ms.Semple, and it won't be my last.

I really enjoyed this book because it actually got me thinking and asking myself: If I am really enjoying my life? Do I need to take more risk? The main character Faith Wishart made up a life and boyfriend just to please her family and mostly herself. She was a little disappointed in how her life was currently going so instead of just being truthful she decides to make it up. The writing was strong and funny which is why I rated it 5 stars.

There are a lot of real life emotions in this book: jealousy, fear, abandonment, and plenty of laughter along the way.

I would really recommend reading this book.
