After the creation of the Earth and the birth of Man, the Presence seemingly vanished from existence. Once the angels and demons discovered that mortals possessed souls, they became locked in an endless conflict for ownership over mankind. But Gabriel, once the leader of Heaven's forces, felt humanity should be allowed to live in peace. For his transgression, he was stripped of his wings and expelled from Heaven. Now, centuries later, the wars of man have brought the world to ruin. Man's once-vaunted technology has regressed. Lance Kells, a drifting writer with no direction in his life, inadvertantly stumbles upon this war and finds himself trapped in the middle of it. As Lance tries to uncover the truth, he will encounter a host of intriguing characters, from a hard-drinking, pink-haired avatar of death to an elderly Native American mystic. During his journey, Lance will discover a method of ending a conflict as old as time, as well as a disturbing secret which links him to Gabriel.

Sooooo ..... after being locked out of my Kindle app I've decided to have a bit of a clean up in my various "Books Read" lists. First cabs off the rank are my DNF pile. If I DNF'd it and have absolutely NO intention of reading it again, I'm changing my rating to 1 🌟 and deleting it off my Kindle. Life is too short at my age for crappy books!!

Original Review:

Nup! Sorry ..... couldn't do it, obviously not my cup of tea. DNF at 35%. See update notes for further info. Something profound obviously happened but it was taking too long to get there and wasn't gripping enough to hold my attention.

I recently read this book. Percival Constantine is not a well known author but his prose is smooth and he does a great job on mood. This novel is a great mix of Christian Legend, Modern Sensibilities and Steampunk mixed with a little post-apocalypse. If that doesn't make you want to read it there is something wrong with you :) There were some things in here that were predictable but there are some things in here that really surprised me which very few authors ever surprise me so that was a huge plus.

Good story!

This was great and wonderful. I'm not really into Christian type story but I must say, this one was the exception.
