Genre: Informational Picture Book
Audience: Pre-K - 6th
Topic: How big machines work
Curricular Uses: Independent Reading
Reading Level: Transitional Readers
Literary Elements: Alliteration, use of popular phrasing (the race is on, the need for speed), rhyming, includes a glossary, index, and picture gallery
Illustrations: Great, vivid photographs reinforce the text.
Additional Comments: While I marked this book as a book for transitional readers, I think that children of all ages, most likely boys, will enjoy this book. Children who have not yet learned to read will simply enjoy looking at the bright, inviting photographs of big machinery. I know this because my 2 year old nephew loved looking at all the different kinds of trucks! I would put this book out in a cozy corner of a classroom for students to browse through during center time or silent reading.
